Help request edit

Hello wiki contributors :). This is my first article. I am discovering wikipedia ! Is anybody can complete, discuss my article or tell me how can i publish it? Don't hesitate. Thank you. Melinda {{helpme}}

Hi there!
I've moved your help request from that subpage to your own talkpage - it's better to discuss helpme's here.
I will take a look at the article, and add more comments here very soon. Cheers!  Chzz  ►  12:29, 12 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Before making the article live, there is one essential thing that needs to be addressed. The article doesn't currently establish notability, because it doesn't have reliable secondary sources that are verifiable. The 'shadow gallery' link, and the link to the company website, are both self referencing sources.

Don't worry - this isn't too hard to fix. You just need to find some references. For example, I looked in Google News search and found this. The magazine article in Ouest-France looks like a reliable source. For information on a good way to add such references, please see my tips below.

Once you have added a reference or two, please ask someone to check it before making it live.

When it is ready, you simply copy it - in other words, you edit your page, select all, and copy. Then search Wikipedia for the non-existent article, choose 'create page', and paste your stuff in. Fill in the edit summary (as always), under the edit box - for example 'creating this new article'. Then save.

If you need more help with it, please ask again - either;

Good luck with it,  Chzz  ►  12:51, 12 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Welcome edit

Hi, Melindamelinda. This is NOT some automated message...it's from a real person. You can talk to me right now. Welcome to Wikipedia! I noticed you've just joined, and wanted to give you a few tips to get you started. If you have any questions, please talk to us. The tips below should help you to get started. Best of luck!  Chzz  ►  12:29, 12 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

ようこそ
  • You don't need to read anything - anybody can edit; just go to an article and edit it. Be Bold, but please don't put silly stuff in - it will be removed very quickly, and will annoy people.
  • Ask for help. Talk to us live, or edit this page, put {{helpme}} and describe what help you need. Someone will reply very quickly - usually within a few minutes.
  • Edit existing articles, before you make your own. Look at some subjects that you know about, and see if you can make them a bit better. For example, Wikipedia:Cleanup#2009.
  • When you're ready, read about Your first article. It should be about something well-known, and it will need references.

Good luck with editing; please drop me a line some time on my own talk page.

There's lots of information below. Once again, welcome to the fantastic world of Wikipedia!

Tips on referencing edit

There are lots of ways to do this, some are simple, some more complex.

Personally, I like using citation templates, and fill in as much as I possibly can; maybe a bit more work, but I think it looks better. You have a <REF> at the start, then a suitable cite tag, then </REF>. An example usage is;

<ref>
{{Citation
 | last = Preston
 | first = Peter
 | title = D. H. Lawrence in the modern world
 | last2 = Hoare
 | first2 = Peter
 | author2-link =
 | publication-date = 1989
 | edition = illustrated
 | place = [[Cambridge]], [England]
 | publisher = [[Cambridge University Press]]
 | page = 125
 | isbn = 0-521-37169-4
 | url = http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=J5nRoaOwkPMC&printsec=frontcover#PPA125,M1
 | accessdate = 2008-05-11
}}
</ref>

For all the possible things to include, see Template:Citation

Of course, you don't have to put everything in, just whatever you can. The above example is a book, but I've included a 'convenience link' to a website that displays it.

Then, at the end of the document (but before any 'category' tags), you need a references section. You just put,

== References ==

{{reflist}}

Hard work? - help is at hand. There are lots of tools that create cite tags automagically. Personally, I use Zotero for the web links, and the cite book generator for books.

I also recommend you look at other articles and copy from them - especially featured articles, which should have good refs.

Hope this help, cheers,  Chzz  ►  12:56, 12 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

New version - help request edit

{{helpme}}

Hello again :). I have added some new references to my article project : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Melindamelinda/Sixpack_france I hope there are reliable sources. They come from MTV news and Ouest France. Could someone please check them out ?

Another thing, i have found an article about the label Sixpack on French Wikipedia : http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sixpack_France It seems quite complete! I just want to know if i can translate some elements of this article to complete mine and if i must precise it ? Thanks. Have a nice day.

Hi there! The references are good now, but there are a couple of other things that should be fixed before it goes live. Give me a few minutes, and I will explain below.  Chzz  ►  11:07, 13 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
Unfortunately, the referenced website (ouest-france) is down at the moment, reporting "Un problème technique empêche l'affichage de cette page, nous mettons tout en oeuvre pour rétablir le service dans les plus brefs délais.", therefore I can't check that all the facts are referenced. I'll assume that that site does assert that it was 'created late 90's by graffiti couple Lionel Vivier and Fanny Baglietto'.

(1) The first part of the article says this;

Sixpack France, often called Sixpack,

The word 'often' is a bit vague; it's what we call a weasel word. It would therefore be better to just say;

Sixpack France (also known as Sixpack),

(2) "late 90's" is also a bit vague; if possible, put the actual date/year

(3) graffiti could be wikilinked to graffiti

(4) "Avant-Garde" - this doesn't seem to be mentioned in reference 2, therefore this appears to be original research, which is not permitted. If there is no source to verify that they came from the Avant-Garde movement, then this fact needs to be removed.

(5) "worldly well-known" - this is not a neutral point of view (WP:NPOV); it sounds like opinion rather than fact. We should try to state facts, and let the reader come to their own conclusion. For example, "The brand appeared in major newspapers in 8 different countries during the 1990s <ref> etc" (if something like this could be referenced)

(6) "tee shirts" should be "T-shirts"

(7) There is no reference to verify that they have worked with TTC, Surkin or A-Trak. If a reference is not available at this time, you should remove those. If a reference can be found later, then they could of course be added.

I hope that all of the above is seen as constructive criticism; I would happily make those changes myself, but I hope by explaining things like this it might help you with further editing in the future. I hope that it doesn't sound like I am being overly critical.

Please try to make the changes suggested, and ask for further help whenever you need it; if there is anything you do not understand, please ask. Best of luck,  Chzz  ►  11:27, 13 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Translation from French Wikipedia edit

It is fine to translate/use information from the French Wikipedia, but there are 2 important points;

  • You should not 'cite' the French Wikipedia - for the same reason that you should never cite the English Wikipedia; you should only cite the sources provided by it. If the article in the French Wikipedia does not have reliable sources to verify facts, then that information cannot be used. I notice that the French article actually uses another article in that Wiki as the source (ie "Orgasmic"); this would not be acceptable on the English Wikipedia.
  • You should use Template:Translated page on the talk page of the article, to note that some of the material came from the other Wiki and to provide a link to it. In this case, you would put this on the talk page;

{{Translated page|fr|Sixpack||version=40823055}}

This would then display as;

Hello again. I've moved this helpme to the end of your talk page - please, when starting a new discussion, create a new section at the end. Also, please remember to always 'sign' your comments with ~~~~.
As I've already been looking at the article (and I think it's fine), I will ask someone else to double-check it for you. Hopefully someone will respond soon. Cheers,  Chzz  ►  08:41, 14 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
Am also looking at it now - spk soon. Trafford09 (talk) 09:55, 14 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
Hi again. I've taken a small liberty, and made some minor changes see my changes here. Please WP:Undo any or all of the changes that you don't prefer, as they're just suggestions. Just ask on my talk page if you need any further assistance (or help to undo my changes, even!). However, the article looks fine to me too, regardless of whether you revert any or all of my suggestions. Regards, Trafford09 (talk) 10:28, 14 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hello wiki contributors :)
I made my article live yesterday : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sixpack_france. All is working quite well. Thanks to the people who has helped me!
But i am facing a little problem : I think the intern links pointing to my article do not work.
I mean if you go to this article for example: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A-Trak , you could see that the word "Sixpack France" :is colored red and not blue and if you click on it you do not arrive on my article.
I just want to know why....
Thanks.

  Done, page moved. --Closedmouth (talk) 08:48, 15 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
Hi there. So - the articles were linking to "Sixpack France" with a capital "F", and the article was canned "Sixpack france" (small "F"). That's why the links were red. To rename an article, we move it to the new name - that's what closedmouth did.
Hope this makes sense, cheers,  Chzz  ►  09:38, 15 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

May 2009 edit

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, your addition of one or more external links to the page Sixpack France has been reverted.
Your edit here was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove unwanted links and spam from Wikipedia. The external link you added or changed is on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia. The external links I reverted were matching the following regex rule(s): \btwitter\.com\b (links: http://twitter.com/sixpack_france).
If you were trying to insert an external link that does comply with our policies and guidelines, then please accept my creator's apologies and feel free to undo the bot's revert. However, if the link does not comply with our policies and guidelines, but your edit included other changes to the article, feel free to make those changes again without re-adding the link. Please read Wikipedia's external links guideline for more information, and consult my list of frequently-reverted sites. For more information about me, see my FAQ page.
