Artist bio stubs

Hallo Megzmurphy

I've come across several of the stubs you have created while stub-sorting. A few points:

 • The stub tag goes at the end, not the top - see WP:ORDER. If you put it in the wrong place it causes work for someone else in moving it.
 • If you know the date of birth, please put it in the lead sentence ..."X (born nnnn) is a South African yyyy" is the standard opening, and means that someone seeing that much in a google search etc can see enough to work out whether it's the person they are looking for.
 • You're writing an article, not a CV. Please don't give a list of their educational qualifications, but make a sentence or two. But it would be useful to link to the institutions where they have articles (as NSCAD University does for Erin Bosenberg, for example).
 • Please check your links: which of the various meanings of Halifax do you want to link to? (That's a particularly complicated example as there are so many variations of the Canadian meaning, without even remembering the original English town).
 • Please don't just use bare urls as references. Give a proper reference as if in a printed report or essay, which then just happens to have a link to an online ref. That way, even if the link goes dead we can see what sort of a source of information it was, and might be able to find it again.

Welcome to Wikipedia and Happy Editing. There's a lot to learn, but it's an interesting journey. PamD 12:53, 10 April 2012 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Diana Page

The article Diana Page has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No independent references, no evidence of notability

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. AndrewWTaylor (talk) 16:02, 10 April 2012 (UTC)

Leila Anderson

The article has been put up for deletion. The editor who nominated the article didn't inform you. Sorry about that, will have a talk with them.

The articles you have written today all look iffy... No independent or reliable references. I suggest you find some ASAP or more of the articles may be deleted. While references from the artist is nice to have, they don't establish the conditions for an article on Wikipedia. The references need to be independent of the artist and go into details about the artist.

If you have any questions, please give a yell on my talk page. Bgwhite (talk) 05:07, 11 April 2012 (UTC)

Akirash

I found this: Sichel, Adrienne (20 March 2012). "Public art paradise". Independent Online (South Africa). Retrieved 11 April 2012.

which would be a useful independent source for Akirash, but I don't see the "Stains" work listed in his list of works. You might like to tweak the article to include this. As someone has pointed out at the AfD for Leila Anderson, you do need to provide independent reliable sources for these artists, not just their own websites etc. Actually I think it's a good WP:RS for Leila too so will add that now. Archiving

Hi Megz, rather than deleting old comments from your talk page you might find it useful to "archive" them - move them off the current page but leave them available if you, or anyone else, wants to check back on them. There are two "bots" which can do this automatically: you can set parameters so that any thread which hasn't had any activity in the last n hours or days is archived, and you can set up a display which links to those archives (when archive1 reaches some max size,archive2 is created - or some people do it month by month or year by year). Here are links to Cluebot and MiszaBot, though neither is exactly a model of clear newcomer-friendly documentation! Alternatively you could add this to the top of your talk page:

which, if I've copied and amended it right from my own implementation, will archive your threads after 4 days into an archive file of max size 250k and display a box to say so; when the redlink for archive 2 goes blue, then you know that archive1 is full and archive2 has been started and can edit the box accordingly.(There may be a more sophisticated way to do this but I don't know it!) Africa Centre

Hi there :) I am writing a case study about Africa Centre's efforts in WikiAfrica. Unfortunately, much of what you did here is "invisible". I just found out that the template was not added, making it very difficult to trace all the pages that were created or improved by Africa Centre people. So I am going to add it now. You'll find the results in a few hours in Category:WikiAfrica/Africa Centre. Will you please add articles that I was not able to trace back? I would not add the Incubator stubs, though. Same for this category on Commons, can you please check if everything is there or add something I could not find? Thank you! --Elitre (talk) 08:40, 27 July 2012 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Wikipedia:WikiAfrica/Stubs/Christopher Swift

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Wikipedia:WikiAfrica/Stubs/Christopher Swift requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be a clear copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from http://www.spiercontemporary.co.za/artists-detail/christopher-swift. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
