Hello MarzieGK. The nature of your edits gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.

Paid advocates are very strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are extremely strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:MarzieGK. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=MarzieGK|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. S0091 (talk) 17:12, 20 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi,
I am not receiving any payment whatsoever for this entry. I am a resident of the NH seacoast area, living in the Seabrook Plant's watch zone and there are a lot of ongoing concerns about the plant safety due to the alkali silica reaction in the containment structure of the plant. It's been featured in the local news more frequently lately. When I was reading the Wikipedia entry on the nuclear power station at Seabrook, I was surprised to see that there was no entry for C-10, which has been around since the plant was built, (and to which I have donated funds occasionally) and decided to write an entry for the non-profit watchdog. I am not receiving anything for doing so, either indirectly or directly.

Hi MarzieGK, thank you for the reply. We get a lot of paid editing with promotional intentions and the draft is written in a promotional/advocacy manner, whether intentional or not, thus the message. If they have only received local coverage, that will not be enough to meet Wikipedia's notability guidelines as at least regional, if not national, coverage is required and it would need to be rewritten to meet Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy (aka NPOV). What they say about themselves is largely not useful. Only what secondary reliable sources have said about them.
With that said, taking a brief look at the Seabrook Station Nuclear Power Plant article, I agree there seems to be some NPOV issues so I suggest working to improve that article, where it may make sense to cover C-10's activities and findings but please read WP:NPOV first. You cannot take a position as all significant views must be represented fairly and with due weight. I will leave you some additional information about editing Wikipedia. I'm not sure what is promotional about the entry for C-10? I'm actually a PhD chemist and have no experience writing promotional materials whatsoever. Also, the articles I quoted were not just from NH but also from Massachussetts sources, which would suggest the regional requirement. But I get that nuclear power is a very controversial issue these days, so I'll just leave it all alone. MarzieGK (talk) 12:58, 23 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

  • Don't be afraid to edit! Just find something that can be improved and make it better. Other editors will help fix any mistakes you make.
  • It's normal to feel a little overwhelmed, but don't worry if you don't understand everything at first—it's fine to edit using common sense.
  • If an edit you make is reverted, you can discuss the issue at the article's talk page. Be civil, and don't restore the edit unless there is consensus.
  • Always use edit summaries to explain your changes.
  • When adding new content to an article, always include a citation to a reliable source.
  • If you wish to edit about a subject with which you are affiliated, read our conflict of interest guide and disclose your connection.
