Your recent article submission to Articles for Creation has been reviewed! Unfortunately, it has not been accepted at this time. The reason left by Tokyogirl79 was:

This submission does not appear to be written in the formal tone expected of an encyclopedia article. Entries should be written from a neutral point of view, and should refer to a range of independent, reliable, published sources. Please rewrite your submission in a more encyclopedic format. Please make sure to avoid peacock terms that promote the subject.

The comment the reviewer left was:

This needs substantial editing to make it fit WP:NPOV. This is written like it's set up to promote Wiener. He's amazing for surviving, but the article still needs to be neutrally written. What I'd recommend offhand is that you remove the section "A Senseless Deprivation Due to My Faith and Fate" and "Letters of Response". The first section is at worst a WP:COPYVIO and at best it gives a lot of WP:UNDUE weight to this.

You should also try to condense sections - there's a lot of minute detail throughout the article that could be summarized better. Since a lot of this contains various WP:PUFFERY terms and phrases, this is something you can do while you re-write the article. An example of what I mean is the following section:

Today, Alter shares his life story with audiences of all ages in middle and high schools, universities, colleges, churches, synagogues, prisons, and civic book clubs. His autobiography, From a Name to a Number, was published in 2007. A children’s illustrated book, Gifts From an Enemy, authored by Trudy Ludwig recounts Alter Weiner’s experience while imprisoned at Gross Masselwitz.

Instead of that, you can try something like this:

Alter has spoken publicly at many venues such as churches, synagogues, and universities, and in 2007 he published his autobiography From a Name to a Number. In 2014 author Trudy Ludwig published a children's illustrated book, Gifts From an Enemy, based on Weiner's experiences as a prisoner at Gross Masselwitz.

This gets the point across, but a little more succinctly. I will say, however, that the information about him being a public speaker could also be handled by putting this in the lead sentence as follows:

Abraham “Alter” Wiener (born 1926) is a Holocaust survivor, author, and public speaker.

This would establish that he has worked as an author and public speaker, which would mean that you don't have to re-establish his speaking until far later on in the article in a section about his current professional life. One thing to remember is that you don't need to list every venue he's ever appeared at - it's generally assumed that the average speaker will appear at a wide variety of locations, especially if they're speaking on anything related to religion or WWII.

I highly recommend that you look into getting help at the WP:TEAHOUSE with this. If this is a class assignment, so I'd also like to recommend that you read over this, which goes over the difference between academic papers and Wikipedia articles. Now if you're someone who was hired or otherwise asked to create the article by Mr. Wiener or his publisher, make sure that you read over the conflict of interest guidelines.

Tips for your drafts edit

Hi there, I wanted to offer a couple of tips to help with your draft:

Pick a draft and work on that one, it'll get confusing otherwise. Let me know which one you choose and we can delete the other one.
Remove any content not cited to a reliable source (Wikipedia isn't a reliable source, nor are blogs like the Wordpress source, nor is his own autobiography), this type of content detracts from the rest of the article more than you think.
His autobiography is a primary source. Wikipedia is a tertiary source and summarizes what reliable, secondary sources say. One or two small bits from his autobiography are OK as quotes, but the article should mainly be summarized from secondary sources. In a nutshell, we're looking for content summarized from journalistic sources that aren't directly connected to him.
Find at least one or two more reliable sources and summarize some more meaningful content from them.
Remember that less is more, be succinct in summarizing the sources. It's perfectly OK if the article is short, if your references are good. I know you have a lot to say and that Mr. Wiener
I think this has some potential, but it's not quite there yet.

I hope this helps. I know you've worked hard on this for quite a while, I'd like to see it bear fruit. I'll try to keep an eye on this and see if I can't help further, but I'm pretty busy. Best wishes! Waggie (talk) 01:42, 20 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
