Conflict of interest

edit

Hi, I came across your query at the Wikipedia:Help desk#Looking To Get Some assistance and wondered how much you had already contributed before embarking on such a major undertaking as drafting a first article.

I noticed that your very first edits were on Rollins, Inc., Orkin, and Western Pest Services. Having been editing on Wikipedia for 14 years, I would say that your edits show a developed sense of how to create a valid reference using {{cite web}}. Your draft article Draft:Orkin Canada (Formerly PCO Services Inc.) is also about a Rollins firm.

Forgive me if you are not connected in any way with Rollins or any of its subsidiaries, but if you are, I suggest you you should read Wikipedia:Conflict of interest. COI includes employees writing about the firm they work for, and editors being paid to make contributions. This is also covered in Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Please don't feel that I'm accusing you of anything: I just thought I should draw it to your attention if you did happen to be connected to a Rollins company. MinorProphet (talk) 02:12, 8 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

@MinorProphet I appreciate you reaching out and providing your insights.
I'm not in any way affiliated/paid by any companies related to Rollins, but when I was deciding on doing my first article on Wiki, Orkin Canada's lack of presence for such a large company seemed like a good starting point as my first article. When I was researching, they have been around for a bit and have had articles around the company history, so I thought it would be easy to do, but as a couple people have explained to me, though they are notable, most of their articles are about external events (acquisitions, news releases, being bought, etc.) surrounding the company as opposed to the company itself. So I'll probably need better less bias sources or need to pick a new subject. Martystlouis21 (talk) 15:35, 9 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
