• Development
  • Fixed the entity usage dashboards that no longer showed data due to technical issues. It tracks how much data from Wikidata is used on the other Wikimedia projects. (phab:T279762)
  • Configured the Property Suggester to not suggest Google Knowledge Graph ID (P2671) and Wolfram Language entity code (P4839) (phab:T280779)
  • Investigated remaining issue with updating the page_props table on the client wikis, which is confusing some bots making use of that table (phab:T280627)
  • Fixed an issue in the Query Builder where it got confused when adding several conditions with the same Property (phab:T279945)
  • Working on tracking the number of edits per namespace over time (phab:T281356)
  • Working on fixing a bug where old revisions of Items have edit buttons but should not (phab:T281587)

Regarding edits to The Faceless wiki

I don't know who it is, , it seems to be more than one person presumably, but The Faceless' wiki [age continually gets edited with false information. Names of people that absolutely were never in the band, nor do I even know who they are and from time to time I I fix these errors, only to discover later that someone has posted false information yet again. It is rather frustrating. I just want the information on the page to reflect the truth and being that I am the only official full time member, I don't know who could possibly be more qualified to provide the information than me. Thank you for your time.

  • Since the beginning of the month, phabricator tickets about language codes (and names of languages) were reviewed and triaged to better reflect their content and current status. Some work was done to better identify the steps for such changes, highlight and address bottlenecks and system issues. Patches for a few codes were contributed and are being released. Phabricator "Language codes" workboard provides an overview, phab:T284856 attempts to identify maintenance steps and phab:T284276 determine turn-around times. phab:T284808 should finally close a gap in termbox language handeling. A way to better address some or all aspects of changes of language codes applicable to Wikipedia editions still needs to be found. Don't hesitate to request the addition or update of language names (e.g. the name of Dutch in Danish) or missing language codes, notably for monolingual strings (see Help:Monolingual text languages).

Guild of Copy Editors June 2021 Newsletter Hello and welcome to the June newsletter, our first newsletter of 2021, which is a brief update of Guild activities since December 2020. To unsubscribe, follow the link at the bottom of this box. Current events Election time: Voting in our mid-year Election of Coordinators opened on 16 June and will conclude at the end of the month. GOCE coordinators normally serve a six-month term and are elected on an approval basis. Have your say and show support here. June Blitz: Our June copy-editing blitz is underway and will conclude on 26 June. Drive and blitz reports January Drive: 28 editors completed 324 copy edits totalling 714,902 words. At the end of the drive, the backlog had reached a record low of 52 articles. (full results) February Blitz: 15 editors completed 48 copy edits totalling 142,788 words. (full results) March Drive: 29 editors completed 215 copy edits totalling 407,736 words. (full results) April Blitz: 12 editors completed 23 copy edits totalling 56,574 words. (full results) May Drive: 29 editors completed 356 copy edits totalling 479,013 words. (full results) Other news Progress report: as of 26 June, GOCE participants had completed 343 Requests since 1 January.   • It was determined that language codes can be activated for Wikidata while being blocked for use on Incubator (phab:T273705), this to avoid projects such as a "British English Wikipedia"
  • Language code "es-419" for Latin American Spanish has been available for labels and descriptions for quite some time (phab:T230786)
  • A possibly confusing Russian mis-translation of the name of the language code for "multiple languages" (mul) is being reviewed (phab:T245927)
  • "en-simple:" can be used instead of "simple:" to link to Simple Wikipedia. Query Services outputs "en-simple", not "simple" for sitelinks to Simple Wikipedia (phab:T283149).
  • There was some discussion about the creation of a language code "en-in" for monolingual strings, but "en-in" as interface language seems to be preferred (phab:T212313)

The American Federation of School Administrators

Hello.

Thanks you for insights and comments on the AFSA page. I am a lover of unions and follow lots of them and want to make sure the are represented with correct information on this site. However, while I understand your revisions in some sections like the history, reverting the page back at least a few years, now contains lots of wrong information now. You now are misleading the public with your edits. In fact, the reference links you put in place are dead links.

Denial of changes to Edward Ellsworth Muhl's page

Since I am a family member you denied the changes I made to Edward Ellsworth Muhl's page which mainly had to do with adding family members which was an important aspect of his life because his influence helped their lives progress into wonderful careers. To say that it is a conflict of interests when I said nothing to promote the standing of his career seems odd. Who else but a family member could list the family? For instance, I didn't put that his youngest daughter Erica Muhl was instrumental along with Jimmy Iovine and Andrew Young (Dr. Dre) in creating the School of Innovation at the University of Southern California. They are also starting a High School in South Central LA to help students that otherwise have no chance in learning in a place that allows them to grow artistically and intellectually. Edward always thought that if those kids had a better chance they would excel. There is much more I could say about his career, early life, education, the entertainment people that helped him on his way but I didn't leaving that to film historians. He was also instrumental in the coalition that started College of the Canyons, a community college in northern Los Angeles County that is now one of the top CCs in the state. He did not like his name out in the public, he believed that the work he did should speak for itself. Why only have his granddaughter Taylor listed as family? That seems odd that you wouldn't want to improve his page. I don't get it.

It seems petty to deny the changes I made, who else can do it? Do you own wikipedia? In the past I have donated - do you edit that? Do I get any of that money back? Is your answer the last word, or are there other editors at wikipedia that have a say or I can discuss this issue with?

  • Mismatch Finder (a tool to review mismatches between Wikidata and other databases): We continued initial development of the store part of the tool. We focused on the upload of new mismatches. (phab:project/view/5422)
  • Discussion on how do describe the types of mismatches reviewed in Mismatch Finder (phab:T285849)
  • We introduced a magic word that can be used to exclude a page from Special:UnconnectedPages on Wikipedia and co. This will make the special page more useful to find pages on Wikipedia and co that should be added to an Item on Wikidata as sitelinks. (phab:T97577).
  • We reduced the number of Wikidata edits that show up in the watchlist and recent changes of Wikipedia and co by not triggering entries for a number of Wikidata edits that do not influence the article (phab:T286193)
  • Property Suggester: We are reviewing patches by a student working on an improved Property Suggester.
  • Working on improving how deprecated statements are handled when checking “type” and “value type” constraints" (phab:T170401)
  • Working on fixing a bug where the entity suggestions are opened when a valid value is already selected (phab:T285102)
  • Wikidata-Wikibase federation (Federation v2): We investigated How to refer to entities that have the same IDs as the source wikibase entities. You can read the ADR here

accused of vandalism

Hello,

I recently changed a few things on the page of Neale Donald Walsch, and was accused of vandalism. I think my changes were constructive, although I have to admit that I'm new to changing/translating Wikipedia pages.

It is very discouraging to be accused of this. Please let me know how I can avoid this.

Got your message and was dismayed to have edited some information in good faith for my employer and see it all disappear. Much of what I added included leadership departures, new leadership and funding updates. I guess since I'm new to Wiki I'm not sure how I'm supposed to add information and it not get rejected.

The message you sent was confusing to me and I spent quite a bit of time working on those updates and attempting to use neutral language as your note suggested.
