CJAL edit

The reference to CJAL acting "as an unofficial A-Channel affiliate" has nothing to do with CKEM and CKAL's rebranding as Citytv; it has to do with the fact that CJAL airs some programming otherwise associated with the stations now branded as A-Channel, like CIVI, CKVR or CHRO. Educational TV templates edit

I added a template box to CJAL-TV and Knowledge Network per your suggestion; I haven't done Saskatchewan Communications Network yet. It's not actually a very complicated thing to do: just copy the template that's already on TVOntario, paste it into the new article at the top and make the necessary changes in the appropriate text fields (but leave the "pipe" character | at the end of each line to delimit the text field). Why not give it a whirl yourself on SCN? If you have a hard time with it, you can always come back to me for help. Just remember...there's no mistake you can possibly make that will permanently mess things up. Changes on here are always fixable or reversible. Bearcat 00:30, 16 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Re NBC references on CJON-TV edit

I'm perplexed as to why you've added the various NBC affiliate references here. While it might be relevant in, say, a discussion of the history of cable TV in St. John's, the identities and locations of the affiliates don't really have anything to do with the history of NTV. If there's a nuance I'm missing, let me know. — stickguy (:^›)— home - talk - 01:25, 24 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

I've left the stations, at least for now, and rewritten it a bit to fit the content better. I doubt I'll find time to write a detailed article on cable in St. John's anytime soon. ;-) — stickguy (:^›)— home - talk - 14:38, 24 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Reach for the Top edit

I wouldn't use the spoiler tag in preparation for the possibility, personally, because it just looks weird if spoilers aren't actually present — but if somebody actually does add the winning team to the article before the episode is broadcast, then you'd have the options of either adding the spoiler tag at that time, or reverting the winning team's name on the grounds that it's not actually verifiable information until the episode airs. Generally, with most TV shows, "spoiler" is used in reference to aired episodes, in the sense that not everybody has actually seen the episode yet — in most cases, Wikipedia doesn't actually permit the kind of spoiler that's based on inside information about an episode that hasn't aired yet, because it's not verifiable until the episode has been broadcast. Bearcat 18:01, 28 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

There's really no point in keeping the CBC tag even if it's been cancelled on the network, because if people are going to the wiki page for reach as a result of too little information on their official site, they will think that, oh, CBC is also hosting it, because it's in that category (as shown by the tag at the bottom). CHUM / Bell / CJON-TV edit

I added something just then about how it might affect CHUM as a programming source. Anything else, though, seems irrelevant to the subject. — stickguy (:^›)— home - talk - 23:43, 12 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

NTV etc. edit

There's a flawed assumption in that question: The CRTC doesn't approve every application it gets. In this case in particular, they aren't going to approve two new stations if they don't think the market will support it - they'd probably approve one (if any) and leave the other network to make a deal with NTV, however unlikely that may work out. — stickguy (:^›)— home - talk - 02:25, 26 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

CHER edit

For what it's worth, I wouldn't personally move it yet; it generally takes at least three to six months after a conversion license is granted before the move actually takes place. There's no way in hell the FM would launch less than two weeks after the CRTC approved the move. What I would do, though, is redirect CHER-FM to CHER (AM) in the meantime; in fact, I'll do that right now. And it'll be easy enough to move the article from one title to the other once we know for sure when the launch date is. Bearcat 05:30, 23 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

As far as I know, the radio templates are permitted for any community that is considered to be a Designated Market Area — in NS, that would mean Halifax and Sydney. All of mainland Nova Scotia is considered to be within the Halifax DMA; Cape Breton Island is Sydney's. Since the actual number of radio stations in the Sydney market is smaller, though, I think what I would probably do is a Cape Breton template: Sydney would be at the top, since it's the primary media centre, but under that I'd add subsections for Cheticamp (CKJM) and Port Hawkesbury (CIGO). But you don't necessarily have to do it that way if you feel that's a bad idea; that's just what I would do to pad it out. Bearcat 18:13, 23 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
I'm from Cape Breton and lived there in the 1970s and 1980s, and I don't remember CHER closing down in the 1970s and then coming back in 1985? Where did you get this information? Unless time has completely clouded my memory, to my knowledge, CHER remained on the air continuously until I left Cape Breton in the late 1980s. I have no idea what the station did between 1986-2007, but I'm quite sure it existed through-out the 70s to at least the mid-80s. Abebenjoe 17:19, 19 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned fair use image (Image:CFCY Logo.jpg) edit

Thanks for uploading Image:CFCY Logo.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Canada: The Great Experiment edit

If you know or can find publication information for the videotapes (production company, etc.), that would suffice as a source. You don't necessarily have to provide a web page; citation to a book or videotape is fine. Library and Archives Canada has a program guide listed in their collection [1], although they don't seem to have the videotapes themselves. But I'm also sure your old school library can't be the only place in the world that has them. I'll try the Toronto Public Library system later; if you have access to a library (public, college, university, etc.), either their collection database or the interlibrary loans system might be able to provide some information. There is a problem with using fair use images in an image gallery. It's not absolutely forbidden, but it is strongly discouraged. In the meantime I've readded the logo images as individual thumbnails. Bearcat 18:11, 26 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

We can only semi-protect if there's an immediate dispute going on, but in the case of CJLS it looks like I was the first person to even touch the page in almost six months now. So we can't really consider that right now. If the editwarriors come back and start up again, then we can consider it at that time. Bearcat 00:52, 27 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Re CTV / A-Channel edit

I'm somewhat surprised myself that no one's paid attention to it. But the CRTC's already said it will allow it, their rationale apparently being that (1) CHRO is losing money, and (2) if Baton/CTV was allowed to own both stations in the past, they can do it again (see paragraphs 30-31). Of course, one might argue that making it a full-fledged City station (in place of CITY Toronto) could make it more profitable, but it's hard to tell, not knowing the ratings for either CHRO or CITY in Ottawa.

CTV could have decided to package CHRO with the City stations in the interests of diversity (CTV could then add CITY's existing Ottawa repeater to CKVR). But if the commission didn't ask for it, and if keeping CHRO benefits CTV's bottom line, there's no reason to sell. — stickguy (:^›)— || talk || 22:41, 12 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:99.1_HITS_FM_Logo.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:99.1_HITS_FM_Logo.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. The Sunshine Man 16:10, 27 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Maritime Broadcasting System edit

A tag has been placed on Maritime Broadcasting System, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article seems to be blatant advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the general criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 11, as well as the guidelines on spam.

If you can indicate why the subject of this article is not blatant advertising, you may contest the tagging. To do this, please add {{hangon}} on the top of the page and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would help make it encyclopedic, as well as adding any citations from reliable sources to ensure that the article will be verifiable. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. GreenJoe 02:02, 8 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Q104 Logo.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Q104 Logo.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Until(1 == 2) 05:09, 12 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Notability of CFMH-FM edit

A tag has been placed on CFMH-FM, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. GreenJoe 23:09, 21 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free media (Image:CBC Premiere Chaine Logo.jpg) edit

Thanks for uploading Image:CBC Premiere Chaine Logo.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 19:00, 10 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

You're talking to the right guy. We always love offers for new episodes to add to the Archive, but we don't accept pretranscribed submissions because there's no way of verifying accuracy of the material or getting captures for the player pictures or media clues. You can send us a DVD or VHS of the show, or upload a video file online to an accessible location. E-mail me at my Wikipedia name (with no spaces) at Gmail and I'll send you more details. And thanks! Better source request for Image:99.1_HITS_FM_Logo.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:99.1_HITS_FM_Logo.jpg. You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the image because the source is incomplete. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. It is best to specify the exact web page where you found the image, rather than only giving the source domain or the URL of the image file itself. Please update the image description with a URL that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page or me at my talkpage. Thank you. OsamaK (talk) 11:40, 23 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

TVO screenshots edit

Done. Well, somebody else beat me to fixing the Hits 99.1 logo, but I've fixed the others. It's best now to use {{Non-free fair use rationale}} to provide the source and licensing information, rather than just a line or two of plain text — if you look at any of the images you asked me to review, you can see the format that the template uses. Note that it doesn't replace {{Non-free television screenshot}} — you still need to add that one separately. But you should use the fair use rationale template instead of a text summary. Hope that helps a bit, and of course feel free to ask me if you need further help understanding how to use the template. Bearcat (talk) 05:11, 5 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Oh, wait. I see what actually happened with the Hits 99.1 logo now. For a situation like that, all you have to do is to provide the actual address of the station's website. So in this case, all you would do is replace the phrase "station website" with "http://www.991hitsfm.com/". Bearcat (talk) 05:29, 5 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Image copyright problem with Image:CKDU Logo.gif edit

Thanks for uploading Image:CKDU Logo.gif. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

This is an automated notice by FairuseBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. --02:31, 17 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Unreferenced BLPs edit

Hello MapleLeafFan04! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot notifying you on behalf of the the unreferenced biographies team that 2 of the articles that you created are currently tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 940 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:

Fair use rationale for File:Dennis Wholey 1989.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Dennis Wholey 1989.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. Nomination of CINB-FM for deletion edit

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article CINB-FM is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/CINB-FM until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:WVII 1985-03-24 Ident.jpg edit

Thank you for uploading File:WVII 1985-03-24 Ident.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. -- Marchjuly (talk) 22:27, 17 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Heads Up! (TV series) edit

The article Heads Up! (TV series) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Does not appear to satisfy notability requirements. Nothing found in BEFORE. Tagged for notability since 2019

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
