Hello, I'm Blaze Wolf. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Vostok 1, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at referencing for beginners. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 14:34, 17 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

WP:IPC

edit

Hi. When you wish to add facts about pop culture uses to existing articles, such as, say, Delius, you need to cite a WP:RS that not only verifies that the thing happened and explains clearly what it is and how it is relevant to the topic, but ALSO states clearly why this is *important* to the topic. For example, If I write a song about William Shakespeare, and The New York Times mentions that I wrote the song, that is cool, but since the song did not chart in the top 10 or otherwise become very famous, it is trivial, not encyclopedic information. However, if Taylor Swift writes a song about Shakespeare, AND the song has significant information about what she likes about Shakespeare, or how he inspired her work, AND the song is a #1 hit, or it becomes one of her signature tunes that she tours all the time, then it is encyclopedic. Even if Taylor Swift writes a song that merely mentions Shakespeare in passing, it is not of encyclopedic interest to Shakespeare's legacy, though of course it would go on Swift's Discography page. See WP:IPC for more information. See also WP:DUE. -- Ssilvers (talk) 22:54, 15 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Thank you very much for explaining this to me ", most people here on wiki aren't so patient or nice in their explanations! I understand now I think I was just a bit too excited to get back to editing and wasn't thinking too critically, anywho thanks a lot -Mambo capstar (talk) 08:06, 16 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
I second your comments on Ssilvers's very clear explanation! It took me a while to get my head round this too – like, is the piccolo trumpet important to Penny Lane or is it t'other way round?! In the end it is often about the direction of the writing and the links – who is referring to whom? Chicken/egg type thing, I guess. Cheers DBaK (talk) 10:01, 16 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
I'm glad that was helpful. Happy editing! -- Ssilvers (talk) 17:07, 16 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
