Hello, Lizowen. We welcome your contributions to Wikipedia, but if you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article North Jersey Media Group, you may have a conflict of interest or close connection to the subject.

All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about ensuring their edits are verified by reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.

If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:

  • Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
  • Be cautious about deletion discussions. Everyone is welcome to provide information about independent sources in deletion discussions, but avoid advocating for deletion of articles about your competitors.
  • Avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
  • Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Wikipedia's content policies.

Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

Orange Mike,

Thank you for contacting me. I have making edits to the page so that it does not violate Wikipedia regulations, including links to our own site, poor references and neutral point of view copy. Any additional advice you have would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Lizowen (talk) 18:25, 27 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hey, Liz, I'm a clerical worker myself (doing this on my lunch hour), and I genuinely sympathize with your problem. Most of the advice I can offer is in the templated messages above. My strongest advice is to tell your bosses flatly: you are not supposed to be doing this. As an employee of the Borgs or their company, you are the worst possible person to be creating or editing these articles (unless they have a press agent), and it's not getting that much better. As stated above (repeatedly): "Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with." If something is just plain wrong, then tell us on the talk page of the article(s) involved, and let somebody whose edits are not tainted by conflict of interest make the decision as to whether the changes are appropriate.
And I'll be even blunter: the Borgs' overweening vanity is not going to be reflected in this encyclopedia. Readers of an encyclopedia don't care what softball team Steve plays for or what charities Jennifer graces with her bounty. --Orange Mike | Talk 18:38, 27 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Orange Mike,

Thank you so much for all your feedback, it is very helpful to me. I understand much better now what Wikipedia is looking to include, and more importantly, not include. I would like to find a way to maintain pages for the Borgs on the encyclopedia without violating any Wikipedia regulations.

I have submitted new information for Jennifer Borg which is pending approval. I will make any changes to Stephen Borg’s page that you deem necessary. The charity work and participation with the hockey team are only meant to show commitment and involvement with the community. It is all factual information.

I looked for examples of Wikipedia pages for similar industry executives such as Eddy Hartenstein and Arthur Ochs Sulzberger, Jr. From what I can tell ours seem to be in line with these, so I am hoping our pages can remain and alerts messages eliminated after any recommended changes you have are made.

If this does not suffice, please let me know what else we can do. I sincerely appreciate your help. Lizowen (talk) 21:53, 3 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Jennifer Borg

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Jennifer Borg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article or image appears to be a clear copyright infringement. This article or image appears to be a direct copy from http://www.bergen.com/?tags=Jennifer_Borg. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lizowen (talk) 14:52, 17 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

That was already explained to you on the talk page: briefly, she's not notable enough for an article in an encyclopedia. Like the rest of her family, she is an obscure businessperson with no significant coverage of her in publications not controlled by her family. --Orange Mike | Talk 18:46, 18 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
