Wiki formatting

Hello Logan,

This is how you link articles in Wikipedia using double square brackets: [[Antarctic Peninsula]] giving this result: Antarctic Peninsula. For a heading use the ==Heading== and use the triple quote for making something bold, but not at the same time as the heading markup. For an ordered list use # on the beginning of a line. The lines will be numbered. To get a new line put two enters in so that a blank line separates the paragraphs. Or you can use <br/> to break a line into two, but this is not the preferred way.

I notice you have a User:Lgkirst/Wiki Homework and User:Lgkirst/hw. It look like you have made a double effort there! Graeme Bartlett (talk) 20:44, 3 October 2011 (UTC)

Your topic

Hello again Logan, I see that you have worked out how to use images, but had a lot of trouble with getting everything right! For your file: File:Indian Southern Oceans Meet.jpg you should state some more information, to say what this is a picture of. I suspect it is you, but others that come across the picture may have no idea of that. The Information template is the thing to uses for that, you would have had a chance to fill in a form when you uploaded it. THe important thing to know is the source, how did the photo get taken and how did you get to own the copyright, so that you can grant a license to the world with the CC license.

Drawing diagrams is a lot of work, it can take 4 hours or more for one image. Since you are doing some research there is an important policy to read Wikipedia:No original research. This means that you should not announce your discoveries first on Wikipedia, but that Wikipedia should contain material that is published elsewhere. I am not suggesting that you will get into difficulty but you should know about it before hand. You will be in a strong position to know the published literature on the topic and will be able to select the best references. Will you create a new article on the geology of the Antarctic Peninsula or just add to the Antarctic Peninsula page? The name Antarctic Peninsula’s subduction zone tectonics sounds to be a narrow topic for Wikipedia, so I would suggest a broader term for the actual article name. I am not suggesting that you change your research, I am thinking about how it should fit into Wikipedia. Hello, some comments on File:Antarctic Peninsula Cross Section.jpg. I am pleased to see that you followed up on the suggestion to have this. For the appearance in the thumbnail image I suggest that you make the text in the image at least twice as large so that it is legible. There is a red ellipse in a white circle and a whiote ellipse in a red circle, but there is no explanation of what they mean. If there was trench rollback happening I would have expected remnants of subducting oceanic crust further to the right, but it is not in the diagram. The grey lump north east of Bransfield rift is probably an Island with a name which could be included. How fast is the rift expanding? There is a yellow hook under the Antarctic Plate label, does that mean anything? B would be clearer than A'. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 09:55, 2 November 2011 (UTC)
