Welcome! Hello, Kudpung, and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions, especially those to the Thailand article. Wikipedia can be kind of crazy, so if you need help, don't hesitate to ask. Check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and ask your question there. Again, welcome, and I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian!

AOC additions to the Rhône region

Hello Kudpung. Nice to see that you add material on Rhône wines. I saw that you wrote about 10 appellations being added to Rhône in 2004, including Costières de Nîmes AOC. Do you have any details, and preferably an online reference (in French, if need be) for this? The reason I ask is that as far as I've noticed, the individual AOC rules don't specify which region an AOC belongs to. Therefore, I'm curious how this is decided "officially", and would like to make sure that we have the right information in our encyclopedia. Costières de Nîmes used to be in eastern Languedoc, and it sort of surprises me to hear that such borders are being moved. (Although I can understand the commercial motivation, Rhône wine being a lot more easy to sell than those from Languedoc-Roussillon.) AOC additions to the Rhône wine region

Answered this on your talk page. Thanks. Kudpung (talk) 17:50, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

Hi Kudpung, you recently left a comment on my talk page, but was it meant for User:Tomas e? « D. Trebbien (talk) 04:24 2008 April 19 (UTC)
Hello, I've now read your reply. Apparently I forgot to sign it, so it was perhaps not obvious that I was the one responsible. It would really be good if we can clear this one up, including year and what form the decision took, because other sources differ in where they put CdN. The usually most reliable source, Oxford Companion to Wine (2006 Ed., p. 205) places it in Rhône and says "In French wine politics, it used to be considered part of the eastern Languedoc", but doesn't metion a year. A 2006 Edition of a Swedish wine book used for many courses (but plagued by many errors...) and my 2001 Ed of the World Atlas of Wine both place it in Languedoc. So does www.terroir-france.com, which seems to be an online source trusted by many... Tomas e (talk) 19:56, 20 April 2008 (UTC)
Once again back to CdN. I found some different version of the "which AOC belongs to which regional committee" list on INAOs website. It appeared that they moved CdN to Rhône in 2004, but in the previous version from 1998, it was still listed as in L-R. Have a look yourself! Therefore I reinterpreted the reply you got, and changed the statement saying that they made their request in 1998. Probably French ministries and governmental agencies take a while to act... Education in Thailand

My recent contribution increased this very small stub to an article. I've read the comments on your talk pages. Editing, contribution, and expansion are probably better than criticism of style and of what's missing (talk page guidelines) all editors are invited to improve it. I have started the article's discussion page by copying some comments to it.Kudpung (talk) 19:34, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

I'm happy with your contributions! I contributed the Thaification paragraph, but won't cry if some other editor deletes it. If you've been to my user page, then you know I'm no scholar, so I'll just be watching the article without making further edits. I live right by Yasothon city, so let me know if you ever come to its Rocket Festival. I'm not happy with that article, either, despite my extensive contributions to it. As presently written, it is not really an encyclopedia article and would be more at home on Wikitravel. Pawyilee (talk) 09:59, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
Education in Thailand is being vandalized by Courtney. I tried to fix it, but my connexion is way too slow to keep up with the brat! Pawyilee (talk) 17:37, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
Blocking IP addresses is done both sparingly and briefly, as it blocks everyone at that address. Also, it is seldom necessary, as brats have very short attention spans. By the way the on-line Dictionary of Difficult Words defines caritative as charitable. Would you be so charitable as to use the latter instead? Meanwhile, we've had rain to rival England's, and I'm still playing with the Thai Lunar Calendar in my sandbox. Pawyilee (talk) 14:30, 18 June 2008 (UTC)

Anyone with more inside information on these wines, or how they fare in your country's market, please dicuss how we can incorporate it in these articles:

Thai lunar calendar

Thai lunar calendar is rather important because many articles refer to it for clarification of lunatic dates, but it is also rather a mess. I'm currently working on revising it in my Sandbox. Could you take time to check it out in both places? Pawyilee (talk) 09:05, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

You may not know anything about the Thai lunar calendar per se, but you DO know how to write lucidly in English! Talk:Thai lunar calendar has a plea to "wikify" the article to conform with the Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style, and I would have done that, myself, if only I were better at following directions! I also lack a broadband connection to the Internet at my home. I've just checked the Talk pages of the other editors who also posted comments, including the one who calls it 'his child', but they seem to have too many irons in the fire at present to get back to Thai lunar calendar issues. Pawyilee (talk) 03:52, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
User:Pawyilee/Sandbox holds my revised version of Thai lunar calendar. I think it is ready to publish. Do you have time to check for readability, first? Pawyilee (talk) 17:33, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

I went ahead and published my new version as I finally got around to reading Dillerand found I had put a lot of BS in the old. For instance, Thai lunar months do have names, it's just that nobody uses them. So, I said as much but left the names out as Diller did not give Thai spellings. I also heavily revised his table of principle lunar-determined feasts and in the process discovered we need an article on Vegtarian Festival (Buddhism). You can read an un-scholarly article about it here, and I feel sure Bangladeshi Madhu Purnima is related. In the latter you can read about an elephant bringing fruit and a monkey bringing honey to Lord Buddha, and you can see those images in wats everywhere. Diller lists the last day of Moon 10 (name phatrabot) as Sa:t, food-cake presentation. I figured out the Thai spelling, and found it in the Online Royal Institute Dictionary [ORID] at สารท ๑ (สาด). (The ORID is more than a bit tricky to use.) But if you look at a current calendar, you'll find it named Tesagarn Kin Jae 9 Wan (Thai: เทศกาลกินเจ ๕ วัน) (sometimes prefixed begin), the beginning of a Nine-day Vegetarian Festival promoted by Thai Chinese Buddhists since the 19th C., first in Phuket but now spread to many other places, including a place on the calendar! Kin Jae กินเจ is also in the ORID, and if you see a restaurant displaying เจ in Chinese-like brush strokes, it's not the number 17 but the mark of a strictly vegetarian menu. I just don't know how to leap the no-original-research hurdle. Pawyilee (talk) 15:58, 22 June 2008 (UTC)

Rocket Festival

I'm not sure what you mean by "include your Rocket Festival in the culture section of the much revered article on Isan." For one, I released all rights to whatever I put there when I clicked Save page. For another, I lack references to rocket festival practices outside of Yasothon. As for Tossa, Wajuppa (1990)'s Phādāēng Nāng Ai : a translation of a Thai-Isan folk epic in verse, that includes bibliographical references (ISBN 0838751393), the "3000-word poem translated to English from this rich Thai-Isan tradition… especially well known to the Thai audience, having been designated as secondary school supplementary reading by the Thai Ministry of Education", I've not read it in either language. Ajarn Wajuppa <wajuppa@yahoo.com> lectures at the university in Mahasarakham. Her specialty is storytelling. Pawyilee (talk) 04:49, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

You wrote, The rocket festival is not confined to Yasothon. It's pretty much all over Isan, that's why I asked how you would feel about your article appearing on the Isan page. It was only a suggestion - I would certainly not consider modifying or moving it without discussing it first.
Nor are they confined to Isan. Candle festivals are also pretty much all over Isan, too, though none as spectacular as the Ubon Ratchathani Candle Festival, which was Yasothon city's inspiration for its annual rocket festival. Other locales stage rocket festivals only as they can afford them; being less costly, candle festivals are more common. Note the article is currently missed named: Bun Bang Fai would be more proper. Bun is from Sanskrit puṇya, Pāli puñña for Merit (Buddhism). Anthropologists will tell you that Merit-making is an aspect of Gift culture, and is by no means confined to a hypothetical after-life, but generates commercial benefits in real time. It was a long time in the making, but Yasothon's commercial success has inspired themed festivals in other Isan provinces. The somewhat related Bang Fai Phaya Nak or Naga fireballs are of great antiquity, but new festivals are popping up all over, with older festivals taking on more of a tourist-y aspect. The Asian Financial Crisis inspired the King's Thai-chuay-Thai Thai-help-Thai programme, which became a springboard for the Tourism Authority of Thailand to promote tours by Thai people in Thailand, and greater commercialization of festivals. Another aspect is the promotion of national unity. I put this quote into the rocket festival article: "Anthropology Professor Charles F. Keyes advises, 'In recognition of the deep-seated meaning of certain traditions for the peoples of the societies of mainland Southeast Asia, the rulers of these societies have incorporated some indigenous symbols into the national cultures that they have worked to construct in the postcolonial period.' That is somewhat outdated as we're well past the postcolonial period, but has carried over to promoting what you could call harmonious diversity. (I thought I just made that up, but Google came up with 12,500 cites in 0.22 ceconds!) So, you see, this is a lot more complicated than the Thai lunar calendar. Enjoy your trip. Re: Irish horse breeds and Mustangs

Hi Kudpung, and thanks for your notes on my talk page and the Mustang talk page. As far as the Irish horse breeds article goes, it appears that the user has not edited in almost a week. I doubt that it is actually trolling, as they do not seem to be actively trying to make trouble. Instead, it seems to be more of a rather misplaced nationalistic pride thing. I'm keeping an eye on the horse breeds article, and if the editor in question returns to protest the prod, then I will be happy to work with them to improve their Wiki contributions. Until then, if they're gone, then they're gone, and no use putting extra warnings on their talk page, in my opinion. As far as the Mustang article goes, that spat settled down a while ago. If you would, though, it might be helpful to place extra information on the souces you provided on the talk page (such as edition, year, etc), so that if the problem comes up again in the future, we can add your sources with all of the proper information to the article as evidence. User:Grrace hasn't been seen in a while, so it appears that the current article will prevail for a while at least. If you have any other questions or comments, I'd be glad to hear them, and thank you for the compliments on the Mustang talk page, although I personally haven't contributed a great deal to that particular article. It's always nice to hear someone complimenting one of the WP Equine articles, rather than criticizing :) Dana boomer (talk) 01:01, 31 May 2009 (UTC)

Indiscriminate POV tags etc

I bumped into your following post at Wisdom89's talk page: What does one do about editors who indiscriminately tag articles everywhere without obviously reading them and understanding them? There are some who blatantly do this just in order to boost their editing counts. --Kudpung (talk) 03:11, 31 May 2009 (UTC)

They need to be warned seriously and possibly banned. Report them right away to WP:ANI.

Gathin Festival

29 May 2009 User:Mispda (talk) created Isan-Lao related page Gathin Festival and linked it to Kathina. I started its talk page with a WikiProject Thailand template, and added it under G in the Index of Thailand-related articles. I don't know how to add the clean-up or photo request templates. It is a notable subject but needs a lot of work to get it up to snuff. It could be merged with Kathina, or, better yet, Kathina's section on Thailand: Kathin (Thai: กฐิน) merged with "Gathin Festival" once transliteration issues get ironed out. Once the pissing contest over Malvern Waters abates, do you think you could help a bit with this one? I have some pix of the "Christmas tree" money trees I could upload, but I'll wager you have better. It also needs a holiday box and categorization. Also, Thailand Kathin needs Royal Barge Procession pix. Pawyilee (talk) 14:02, 3 June 2009 (UTC)

Worcestershire articles

You may be interested in this.. User:Jenuk1985/Worcestershire watchlist. It is a list of every single Worcestershire related article, scraped from the Worcestershire category. I have put it in a format that can be copied and pasted into your raw watchlist. I figured it would be useful to you :) Jenuk1985 | Talk 19:42, 5 June 2009 (UTC)

Expand template

This template isn't needed, and shouldn't be used, on articles that already have a stub template. The stub template itself requests expansion, so an expand template is redundant. For confirmation of this see template:expand/doc. Phil Bridger (talk) 09:14, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

You've got the wrong guy

I just happened t be reverting a lot of vandalism on that page. the main contrubitor to the page is Petepetepetepete who hasn't edited since Feb 2008. I'm afraid I don't know any thing much about Worcestershire so I probably wouldn't be a huge asset to the project :( - Kingpin13 (talk) 10:36, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

Worcestershire Template

I have updated Template:WikiProject Worcestershire and redirected Template:WPWorcs-Scope to it, so everything is now singing from the same hymn sheet! You can use the name of both templates just fine, and now the assessment part of it should work. All the appropriate categories have been created too. Jenuk1985 | Talk 14:04, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

I have also created a {{WPWorcs}} redirect, shorter to add into articles :) Jenuk1985 | Talk 14:08, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

Villages as Cities

Well, I tagged them because WP:CITIES states that it covers all types of municipalities. It states that at the very top of the page. --Starstriker7(Talk) 05:09, 10 June 2009 (UTC)

If you are trying to address problems with the WikiProject's scope, then it is best that you take it up on the WikiProject's talk page...These are settlements, and the WikiProject says that all settlements are included in the scope (alongside neighborhoods). I believe that there's already been talk of focusing the WikiProject's scope in the past, and it was determined that all presently existing settlements fit into the scope of WP:CITIES.
I do understand what you are trying to say, though. However, the way I see it, although it may seem redundant at times it may very well allow newer users to plug in more easily because WP:CITIES is better-known than many of its child projects whose focus is on individual states, countries, and counties. --Starstriker7(Talk) 08:36, 10 June 2009 (UTC)
This section from AfD might clarify your worries about possibly non-notable locales.
I don't see how you could be creating redundancy in tagging relevant articles for the Worc WikiProject, so there really is no need to worry. Let Cities be the conduit, and Worc be the workhorse. :] --Starstriker7(Talk) 06:12, 13 June 2009 (UTC)
No problem. Best of luck with WikiProject Worcestershire! --Starstriker7(Talk) 08:40, 13 June 2009 (UTC)

Notifying me about articles I have contributed to

I'd prefer it if you didn't do this, as you'll find I have contributed to around 90% of Worcestershire related articles, most of the time to add cords, and I have no direct connection to them other than that. I have all the Worcestershire articles on my watchlist so I will see whats going on anyway. Jenuk1985 | Talk 01:12, 13 June 2009 (UTC)

Ditto - not a good idea to do that. Thanks. Ghmyrtle (talk) 10:39, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
Me too, please. I'd rather rely on my watchlist. Kanguole 11:40, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
You can all be sure that the task I have before me is exceptionally tedious, and one of the lesser pleasures of contributing to the WP. If there is a better way of streamlining this task that I may not be aware of, please let me know, and in the meanwhile I will be looking into Nev1's suggestion below. Thanks for your understanding. --Kudpung (talk) 12:01, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
Please don't send me any more of these notifications. I am not a member of Wikiproject Worcestershire. I have selected the articles on my watchlist so that I hear about the ones I'm interested in and not about the ones I'm not. In either case a notification on my talk page is one too many. Cleanup listing

I don't know if you've thought about it already, but you might be interested in getting a cleanup list. Details of how to get one can be found here. It doesn't tag articles for cleanup, but it does compile them for you. It's not done very regularly (every couple of months I think) but it might save you a bit of effort. Queenhill

Re Longdon, Holdfats and Queenhill: I hope you have now learned that an infobox such as {{Malvern Hills District parishes}} should be transcluded not "subst"ed into an article. I have a personal policy that English villages should be written up at the civil parish level and was preparing to redirect Queenhill and Holdfast, Worcestershire to Longdon. But I cannot find the official name for the parish. The council website is no help! Follow the links from this list and it looks as though they are three separate parishes, eg. this for Holdfast! — RHaworth (Talk | contribs) 18:04, 16 June 2009 (UTC)

  • I hope you will soon learn to adopt a more encouraging approach to people who, like you, are doing their best to disentangle the big mess made by others, even if we make a small mess of it ourselves. I am one of those Wikipedians who is more concerned with the content of the articles than with the technology that links and references the pages. There are others who prefer to tinker under the bonnet. If you are one of those, I hope you will have helped out by making the necessary changes; if not you may wish to start here: Wikipedia:WikiProject Worcestershire/All Worcs related articles. --Kudpung (talk) 18:29, 16 June 2009 (UTC)

What a strange response! Why did you find my message discouraging? "I hope you will have helped out" - did you not check to see whether I had or not? — RHaworth (Talk | contribs) 18:40, 16 June 2009 (UTC)

As a side note (sorry for hijacking your talk page Kadpung), I am against any redirecting/merging of village articles to civil parish articles, it goes against established consensus. Jenuk1985 | Talk 18:44, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
No worries Jenuk, and I hear you all. Personally I don't care either way as I'm more interested in improving articles than in the technology that links them together. Nevertheless, I think it would probably be best if we all keep this particular topic to the project talk page where it already started so that everyone can join in. :) --Kudpung (talk) 20:58, 16 June 2009 (UTC)

Re: Hopwood Park services

Er, I don't remember anything I debated that relates to this article. (I vaguely remember the AfD debate, but in re-reading it I didn't find any comments which I contributed to it.) Can you help me out here? -- llywrch (talk) 16:37, 19 June 2009 (UTC)

By "the current article as it stands is devoid of notability, and is a blatant advert", do you mean Watford Gap services or Hopwood Park services? If it's the first, I disagree, only for its importance to popular culture. If the second, I don't think it's a "blatant advertisement", but one of those border-line notability articles. Since I know practically nothing about these institutions, though, I think I'll stay out of any further discussions about them. :) -- llywrch (talk) 16:58, 19 June 2009 (UTC)

. Jenuk1985 | Talk 17:01, 19 June 2009 (UTC)

I read the article several times before making any comment (I am not a drive-past editor). It does however strike me, with its multiple mentions of of KFC etc, and it other promotinos, as if it were written by the manager ;) Anyway, I don't care either way - that's what a project and a consensus is for, and I see no harm in raising the matter to enable others to decide on it. --Kudpung (talk) 17:14, 19 June 2009 (UTC)
KFC is a facility at the service area, so there is nothing unencyclopaedic in saying so. Strensham services has multiple references to Mc Donalds, does that make it an advertisement too? Jenuk1985 | Talk 17:24, 19 June 2009 (UTC)

Hindlip

Hi. A reply. Wikipedia does not allow stubs on its main page. Hindlip Hall has been on the main page as the DYK banner shows, I'm not sure but I guess other Worcester articles have too. Articles that have been on the main page are start articles or better as admins will not move stub articles. Obviously I'm not happy with your change and you did ask for objections, and we have exchanged views. However do not think I am on the offensive. I am trying to avoid that by not reverting your edit but asking for arbitration from the Worcester project as we have failed to agree. I'm quite happy to go with any third party decision, but I am very surprised by your edit but I'm assuming good faith and realise that I may be wrong. Do not take this personally I'm not out to get you, I'm trying to understand the large difference in our approaches to this article. Victuallers (talk) 18:58, 19 June 2009 (UTC) Seems a fair compromise to me to ask your fellow project member.... I work on WP Derbyshire and have probably added a 1000 or so banners. good luck Victuallers (talk) 19:24, 19 June 2009 (UTC)

Don't get disheartened, your Thailand articles look brilliant. I did look at you example article and I agree that the balance of the biography and the work is wrong. I agree. The school was only formed a few years ago (2 neighbouring schools went through a lot of change, with a merger). It seems like the article became a bit wild at that point. Which sections need clean-up? Btline (talk) 20:35, 23 June 2009 (UTC)

River Teme

I am placing my comment here, not on the talk page, as I do not want to encourage another edit war. The original article was written by a user who was subsequently banned, but has re-emerged and now seems to behave himself. This was seeking to establish that the river was navigable, though the evidence for navigation was very slender. As I investigated the subject, I found that true "evidence" was (with one exception - of unknown substance) limited to the use of canoes and rowing boats. There was an edit war, which Philip Baird Shearer (an admin) moderated. Ultimately the view that I put forward (as to non-navigability by barges) was established, and the article has largely been stable for a year or two. The debate on this was conducted not only here but in Journal of Railway and Canal Hisotrical Society, and I had to publish an article there (as Peter King - my name), before I was allowed to put up my view in the WP article, so that it was not WP:OR, though that is what the original text of the article was. I think this all goes back to a fantisist in the Worcester area, who has built up a great edifice, but without adequate foundations in good historical sources.

I still watch this article. If you think there is too much on navigation (or the lack of it), I have no objection to it being pruned, but would suggest that a statement be kept that it was not navigable by barges carrying goods above Powick Mill. I felt that I had to allow a good deal of trivia on the use of small boats to remain; it has WP:RS, but is mostly fairly trivial; however the use of canoes should remain (briefly). If you like to prune the section, I will look at what you have done and will not officiously restore what I regard as trivia.

I have added this page to my watch list, so that I will pick up a reply from you here. There would probably be merit in archiving much of the material from the talk page relating from the edit wars of several years ago. Peterkingiron (talk) 08:30, 28 June 2009 (UTC)

Fair comments Peter. I think the article is top heavy on navigation, so I'll have a go at copyediting it. It's nevertheless extremely well referenced, so readers can at least do their own further looking up - particularly your own article now that it has been published. Archiving the talk is a good idea.--Kudpung (talk) 16:03, 28 June 2009 (UTC)
The quality of the referencing is a result of the edit-warring: anything that was not properly referenced got reverted. However, it is difficult to do this where there is a WP:RS. You may be able to summarise some on the excessive items, but would suggest that you try to retain the references, since the subject is well researched, and this WP article is probably the best summary of the subject that exists. As I said, I will not officiously revert what you have precised, by some one else may. One does not know who of the navigation proponents may also be watching! Setting up the reflist template as I have done, with a colwidth of 30em automatically varies the number of cols depending on the resolution available on the monitor. 30em seems to be the standard use on most articles in this respect Jenuk1985 | Talk 14:52, 30 June 2009 (UTC)

30 is the reasonable minimum it can be to be honest, otherwise the references get squashed. Sorry, I already beat you to the first Worcestershire GA with Strensham services ;-) Jenuk1985 | Talk 15:02, 30 June 2009 (UTC)

I have moved WikiProject Worcestershire/by type to Wikipedia:WikiProject Worcestershire/by type. Why did you instantly re-created it on the wrong title? — RHaworth (Talk | contribs) 05:43, 5 July 2009 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of CALICO - The Computer Assisted Language Instruction Consortium

A tag has been placed on CALICO - The Computer Assisted Language Instruction Consortium requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this.  Blanchardb -MeMyEarsMyMouth- timed 16:04, 6 July 2009 (UTC)
