Fancy using some power?

Would you like to permablock User:24.61.141.130? Take a look at his talk page and pay particular attention to the April and 25th of April sections in it. .. then there's his contribs of course.

Wikipedia could well do without this person. --Mal 20:37, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

Ha! Funnily enough, when I got round to checking this out, they'd got some fresh vandalism which hadn't been rollbacked. I've reverted it and given them a 1 month block (they served the same length until the beginning of this month, and are clearly dedicated to vandalism!). --kingboyk 15:01, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

And also if you could put a semi-protect on the article Irish-Scots, as there's a revert war going on there by a known sock puppet. --Mal 21:40, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

Doesn't seem to be any need at the moment. Let me know if it hots up again. --kingboyk 15:01, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

Will do mate. Also - any chance of deleting Wikipedia:Wikiproject Northern Irish articles for me? There's no need to have it as a redirect - I made an error with the small p which should have been a capital P, so I moved the page and I think I've sorted out all the links to it now. Cheers. --Mal 15:27, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

Explanation

Hi Steve, I just thought I'd explain why I bailed out of the project. I really am sick to death of Americans shooting first and asking questions afterwards, in particular anything to do with The Beatles. They come in, impose "American English" then when they're taken to task, it's "I wasn't trying to do anything of the kind, I don't understand what's wrong"! Take a look at the last one in on my page, is he agreeing with me or taking issue? I don't know, you tell me! Cheers mate Lion King

Hi mate. Doesn't sound like a reason to leave! :) Well, anyway, it's up to you, you can keep on editing and contributing whether or not your name is on the list. --kingboyk 15:02, 26 April 2006 (UTC)
Don't think so, got far more important things to do with my spare time. Lion King 15:44, 26 April 2006 (UTC)
Oh you're off altogether are you? OK, well, take it easy mate! --kingboyk 15:45, 26 April 2006 (UTC)
No, I mean that I have resigned from the debating club, I'll still be watching pages that are important to me, when I have time:) Cheers, Lion King (Jimmy).

DRV closing

I did blank the section. I also added a note, with diff of the removal, under the recently closed section per convention, though I admit that Ihad to look up what that was first. Thanks for following up anyway. Again, sorry for the hostility. My nerves are very frayed right now. I'll try to get the new article written tonight (it's noon here now). —WAvegetarianCONTRIBUTIONSTALKEMAIL 15:47, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the message!

Hi there,

Thank you for the message on my talk page... no, no disgust :) Although it did take me a bit to learn the proper way of doing things, I think it is going well... and have received word that there is use out of my archive, so thats always nice :)

If you ever need anything, please let me know as well (you know, all that pull I have on Wikipedia)  :) Joking aside, thank you... and keep in touch!

My RfA

Thank you for voting at my RFA. Even though you did not vote for me, your counsel was appreciated. In the next few months, I intend to work on expanding my involvement in other namespaces and try a few different subjects than in the past. - CTSWynekenTalk

Brian Epstein

Not sure I'm doing this right, but since so many people access Wikipedia as a resource, and you're a person I found who once added a little sympathetic note on him, I'm directing this to you. If there's a more appropriate person to plead with, please forward this to him/her.

Please find a way to put a different photo on Brian's page. There are thousands of images of Brian out there, and there must be at least one more that is cleared for use. The photo that represents him right now on his page is the most unappealing thing I've ever seen of him. I'm sure Brian would have been disappointed in its choice for a reference. Icky.

I joined Wikipedia only for the purpose of trying to get something done about this picture. The task of merely contacting an actual person seemed to take forever to figure out. But for Brian Epstein, nothing is too much trouble.

Thank you!

Christine 12:08, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

Unfortunately I can't magic a photo out of the air :) I don't have any! If you have a nice photo of him that is either free of copyright or which you own to the copyright to, please go ahead and upload it. That's how wiki works. --kingboyk 13:27, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

Let It Be

Was your response to the Let It Be (song) discussion on The Beatles's page supposed to give an answer to the original question? If so, I am sorry I did not understand...Hit me up on my talk page. Cheers, TommyBoy76 12:36, 28 April 2006 (UTC)TommyBoy76

Your thoughtful question on my nascent RfA

Thanks for same. Good question! I hope I've answered it to the level you were looking for. I see you're asking around for help with the newsletter, which is good, because I feel I've dropped the ball a bit on that but perhaps I could still help out somehow. If someone else starts it I could do some smithing on it. ++Lar: t/c 13:51, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

Good answer, thanks. Now please write "accept" and get this thing moving! I'm sick of waiting! --kingboyk 14:10, 28 April 2006 (UTC)
I have at least 1, possibly 2, co noms I want to secure. One of them is out of town till 1 May. Soon, soon, there is no rush...++Lar: t/c 14:25, 28 April 2006 (UTC)
Can I accept by proxy? :P --kingboyk 14:30, 28 April 2006 (UTC)
If you want to cock up the whole thing for me, sure, I guess... nothing's stopping you from saving a place in line on the opppose list though. I saved one for Kat already. (just taking literally what she said on IRC... I can't take these things TOO seriously, after all) ++Lar: t/c 14:38, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

Statutory Instruments

Hi. I notice that you have previously voted or commented on the proposal to delete the List of Statutory Instruments of the United Kingdom, 1996 page. The debate about the delete proposal ended with no consensus. This is just to let you know that I have started a discussion on how to go forward from here. I am currently trying to define what the problems with the page are so that we can try to find a fix for them that stops short of outright deletion. If you wish to take part in the discussion, the new debate can be found here. Thank you. Road Wizard 23:52, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

Replied at Talk:List of Statutory Instruments of the United Kingdom, 1996 but I hold put little hope for it, sorry to say. --kingboyk 07:38, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

Re the whole de-bureaucrating thing

Hi, I never came to thank you for the message you left for me a month ago when I stepped down from being a bureaucrat. Thank you for the things you said, it's good to know there are still plenty of good people about in this project. I do not see myself standing for bureaucrat again anytime soon though who knows what the future may bring! Thank you once again. -- Francs2000 09:55, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

Yes, there are still "plenty of good people" about in the project... and then there's me! hehe. Seriously, you're welcome of course. --kingboyk 14:20, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

Glos v South Glos

Dunno what list or map you used for determining your South Glos Villages, but note that Hillesley and Tresham were both returned to GCC from Avon in 1991 - the article Hillesley and Tresham is broadly correct here.Linuxlad 13:23, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

Whoops, sorry about that. I went on what the article said and if there was any doubt I used the net. Let's see... well in this case it would have been because that's what the article said. "Hillesley is a village in South Gloucestershire, England." [1] Those 2 look like merge candidates to me, they're barely even stubs. Hillesley and Tresham is a bit better. --kingboyk 14:23, 29 April 2006 (UTC)
Are you sure about this? They're listed in the South Gloucestershire article too, which was the other resource I used. I've changed them to Gloucestershire and also to redirects in the meantime. --kingboyk 14:28, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

99.9% certain! - the 1991 statutory instrument is referenced in the H & T article, and I remember the change ocuring shortly after I started going to Stroud DC meetings. (They were also encouraged to change their accents from saying 'Bristow' and 'good ideal' to speaking proper Glawstisher). Don't think it's really good to merge - they are about 2 km apart with Alderley in between (and slightly North) :-) see Multimap under Tresham. Bob aka Linuxlad 14:55, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

Heh! Really?! Well, anyway, I'll leave that to you, you might wanna remove them from the S Glos list if you're positive. Feel free to undo the redirects but the problem is the articles were crap, and 2 small villages covered 3 articles. Redirects can always be undone if an enthusiastic new editor comes along from that area and wants to write more. --kingboyk 15:17, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

Somebody had already undone the redirects! And the trouble with this is where do you stop? You then bundle in Alderley and Lower Kilcott and call it all 'south suburbs of W-u-E.' It's a very popular little walking area, especially with the Cotswold way through the middle, so the problem is similar to listing the hamlets of the Dove and Manifold Valleys. When the need arises you add em in. Linuxlad

Most bizarre thing about that is that it's a brand new account who seems to really know what they're doing. Oh well. I'd prefer it if people would fix articles rather than just return them to a bad state but never mind... I have bigger fish to fry than worrying about that :) --kingboyk 16:08, 29 April 2006 (UTC)
I've added a better summary of their locations, including a grid ref. Two out of the three also appear (and from memory) to have notable buildings (I have a Glos Pevsner). Enjoy your fish! Bob aka Linuxlad 16:48, 29 April 2006 (UTC)
Lol, thanks. Making me hungry now, fish and chips would go down a treat... --kingboyk 17:04, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

Goutetsu-ryū Ansatsuken

hey. you recently deleted the page for Goutetsu-ryū Ansatsuken, and whilst I'd like to have argued its case (or at least, better handling of the data involved - as some of the moves weren't "original research" and should have been merged with the relevant character pages) but nevertheless, I was using the info on the page a bit. and I was wondering if you could provide me with it? I won't put it back on wikipedia, but I'd like it for my own use - a lot of good information had been collected there. thanks. metaphysical 12:35, 30 April 2006 (UTC)

Busy now but certainly yes, I'll do it for you later. --kingboyk 13:49, 30 April 2006 (UTC)
Latest revision restored to Goutetsu-ryū Ansatsuken. --kingboyk 14:02, 30 April 2006 (UTC)
awesome, thanks. do I have to take it down from that place after I've copied the info? (as it was marked for deletion) or can I leave it up there as it's like a sub-page now? I'm unsure on what's the correct thing to do, and don't wanna cause anyone any more hassle. metaphysical 14:19, 30 April 2006 (UTC)
You can leave it there if you like, but if you've finished with it and you don't need it let me know and I'll delete it. --kingboyk 14:32, 30 April 2006 (UTC)

You recently deleted my addition to the Beatles page. Why did you do this??? All I did was add one link and it's the best Beatles News Webpage out there.....

Some project tips

  • Stick the following template {{Template:WPBeatles}} on relevant articles. We have 500+ already but may have missed some!
  • Use British/English grammar and spelling per Policy
  • A few moments checking other editors contributions is always appreciated.
  • Don't be shy on using the talk pages. It's where a lot of stuff gets decided.

From the Editors

Welcome to the inaugural issue of The Beatles WikiProject's newsletter! We hope that this newsletter will help members—especially those who may be unable to keep up with some of the rapid developments that tend to occur—find new things to do within the project that they may wish to participate in.

Please consider this inital issue to be a prototype; as always, any comments and suggestions are quite welcome. We would like to emphasise that this is a collaborative Project and all editors are equal - so next month the newsletter editor might be you!

FloNight's answer to question 4 on her Rfa. KillerChihuahua?!? 18:51, 1 May 2006 (UTC)

Kingboyk, thank you for your interest in my RFA. I see that some of my advocates have pointed you toward a couple of my replies. I hope that you will look at them and change your mind. If you don't that's okay too. Both of us are here for the long haul and I'm sure we will sort this out later. It's more important for us to develop a good working relationship than for you to support me now. regards, FloNight talk 13:13, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
That attitude (what's more important) is part of why I supported FloNight. But everyone needs to support or oppose for their own reasons... I think it's important to keep a clear distinction between making facts available (and making readers aware of them), and direct advocacy, so that's something to be careful of in my view. ++Lar: t/c 13:44, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
I'm not such an important figure that an objection from me has to be considered a big deal, and direct advocacy (such as the emails I have received) I'm afraid will make me more resolute. An RFA shouldn't be a "popularity contest", and I have my reasons. I strongly suspect you will become an admin regardless of my contribution, and I look forward to working together. Please don't take it personally. There's a world of difference between a good editor, being a nice person, and being admin material (as I was reminded during Terence Ong's RFA, where it was very difficult to oppose but it had to be done). --kingboyk 19:12, 2 May 2006 (UTC)

Congrats

On your second barnstar! Another well deserved one (although the handing out of barnstars can be a bit arbitrary sometimes, yours were definitely earned...). Now go out and hand out a few to other people! ++Lar: t/c 12:56, 3 May 2006 (UTC)

Interwikis

Hi, could you please add two interwiki links to a protected article. Telex 15:16, 3 May 2006 (UTC)

Yep... Which article, what are the links? --kingboyk 15:18, 3 May 2006 (UTC)

I need you to modify cy to

and to add sq

Remember that the sq interwiki goes after the ru interwiki (because the native name is Shqip, so that they are in alphabetical order). The protected article is Republic of Macedonia. The suggested edit summary is: adding interwiki sq and modifying interwiki cy. Thanks. Telex 15:22, 3 May 2006 (UTC)

Thanks. Telex 15:29, 3 May 2006 (UTC)

I find your lack of faith... disturbing.

Indulge. :)

Dear Kingboyk/Archive 8,

Thanks for voting on my RFA! I appreciate your comments and constructive criticism, for every bit helps me become a better Wikipedian. I've started working on the things you brought up, and I hope that next time, things run better; who knows, maybe one day we'll be basking on the shore of Admintopia together. Thanks and cheers, _-M o P-_ 22:07, 3 May 2006 (UTC)

...for the barnstar! It's really nice to know my review comments were appreciated. The KLF related articles I added to the list are model examples of what a GA is - short, but great. Keep up the good work! Worldtraveller 20:20, 5 May 2006 (UTC)

Hello Kingboyk/Archive 8, and thanks for supporting me on my recent request for adminship! It has succeeded with an unanimous support of 67 votes, so that I am now an administrator. The KLF is a continuing success story. 25% of the good "musical recording" articles are KLF-related. And hopefully there'll be more to follow. It's great. Are the page history stats still broken for you? Did you pase in the short 4 line version that scrapes the code or did you past the actual script in?Voice-of-AllT|@|ESP 21:42, 8 May 2006 (UTC)

You may want to try it again, as perhaps the script was bugged when you ran it (for the first few days I released, there were a few). If it still does not work, then I'll debug your monobook.Voice-of-AllT|@|ESP 14:56, 9 May 2006 (UTC)
I just used a link in my monobook. I'll try it again and let you know. Thanks! :) --kingboyk 16:43, 9 May 2006 (UTC)
Well, if I click "Statistics" I get stuff like this:
  • 18:12, 9 May 2006 (hist) (diff) User:Kingboyk/monobook.js (Revert to revision 51999020 using popups) (top) [rollback] (rv) #1
I don't get any namespace summaries, percentages for use of edit summary, or anything else like that. I presume that means it's broken, but I'm not sure. Let me check my JS console... Oh yeah, stacks of errors... Well, anyway, perhaps you'd try my monobook.js and see if it works for you? :) I'm using the latest Firefox on XP SP2, btw. --kingboyk 18:15, 9 May 2006 (UTC)

Moving articles

HI! I hope you don't mind me taking you at your word about moving articles :)

They are all constituencies for elections to Dáil Éireann (the Irish parliament), and I am tryin to convert their names across to the format "xxx (Dáil Éireann constituency)". AS you will see from the Category:Parliamentary constituencies in the Republic of Ireland, about half are already done, and all of the defunct constituencies in Category:Parliamentary (Dáil Éireann) constituencies in Ireland (historic) had been done before I started work.

In each case, the move is blocked by a redirect at the place I want to move the article to, which is why I need an admin's help. I hope the table is self-explanatory. (BTW, note the accents in the names: it's important that those are retained).

Here are five of them:

Old name New name
Tipperary South Tipperary South (Dáil Éireann constituency)
Waterford (constituency) Waterford (Dáil Éireann constituency)
Westmeath (constituency) Westmeath (Dáil Éireann constituency)
Wexford (constituency) Wexford (Dáil Éireann constituency)
Wicklow (constituency) Wicklow (Dáil Éireann constituency)

Hope that's OK — thanks! --BrownHairedGirl 15:28, 9 May 2006 (UTC)

No worries, I'll get onto it in a moment. --kingboyk 16:44, 9 May 2006 (UTC)
All done! --kingboyk 17:47, 9 May 2006 (UTC)
Thanks, you're brilliant! Replying to your question on my talk page, there about 20 more of them, which I have listed at Category Talk:Parliamentary constituencies in the Republic of Ireland and posted on Wikipedia:Requested_moves. I fear it's all a lot of work, so I'm v grateful for your help --BrownHairedGirl 18:17, 9 May 2006 (UTC)
Yikes, that's a lot. I'll see how I'm feeling later on :) --kingboyk 18:22, 9 May 2006 (UTC)
See the talk page for the category Category talk:Parliamentary constituencies in the Republic of Ireland as there appears to be some controversy around the moves (everyone else that commented opposed so far). I've put my oar in, as is my wont... ++Lar: t/c 15:28, 10 May 2006 (UTC)

I think the number of attempts at getting at fixed, and also the apparent need for a great deal of attribution (both as a watermark on the image and as a caption).
