i have showen you and others facts yet you refuse to see them i have emailed wikipedia myself and showen them this issue and told them that i have tried to add sir edmund farley twice now yet you refuse to see him and add his name to the list that you have already provided About Sir Edmund Farley FARLEY, I have read was the version of FALAISE the French name of the Farley ancestors. However after 1066 and all that, the castle (probably made of timber initially) was part of the domain of Falaise who named the Castle Farley which was his English version of his name. He took the name Farley too.

In a picturesque valley of the river Frome, on the border between Wiltshire and Somerset and nine miles from Bath stands the remains of Farleigh Hungerford Castle. Started in the 14th century it still has much for the visitor to enjoy and provides a great day out for families with children, couples and even walkers enjoying the beautiful surrounding countryside. This fortified mansion was occupied for 300 years by the remarkable Hungerford family and today their intriguing, yet sometimes gruesome stories are told through graphic interpretation panels and a free audio tour. There are many hidden treasures - the chapel with rare medieval wall paintings and family tombs; extensive displays in the Priest’s house; and for those who are brave enough to enter the crypt, there’s the best collection of human-shaped lead coffins in Britain.

Farleigh Hungerford Castle, also called Farleigh Castle or Farley Castle, at Farleigh Hungerford in the civil parish of Norton St Philip , Somerset England was built around 1370. It has been designated as a Grade I listed building and Scheduled Ancient Monument Originally a manor house overlooking the River Frome it was fortified and developed over hundreds of years. It played a role in the English Civil War before falling into ruin. The ruins are now a tourist attraction managed by English Heritage

Eugene Mc Cabe - Eileen Battersby

The last four adjectives describing and man of literature are "virulently, boorishly, cloacal and invective" are unfair, a matter of opinion and biased. I ask who Added this comment to his Biography? And what gave them the right to make them? I ask that the entire "He defended Dermot Healy by virulently and boorishly attacking the reviewer of his book, Eileen Battersby, in The Irish Times in 2011, using cloacal invective in lieu of argument to describe her own writing." be removed, as it is a matter between Eugene and Eileen, and is not pertinent in a 150 word Bio of an very productive 84 years of life. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Patrickbmccabe (talkcontribs) 20:47, 10 April 2014 (UTC)

Hello,

Thanks for your message about the file Frauke Finsterwalder, CK.jpg. I was trying to delete the entire entry because I didn't really want the image to be a standalone entry that would be ranked highly in search engine lists, just an illustration for a new entry I'm creating for the German film director Frauke Finsterwalder. Fayston article

Hi, I deleted that part from the Fayston article because it didn't seem to have much to do with the town. It consists of what appears to quotes from somewhere about people during the Civil War, but it's not included in the references section at the bottom of the page. Were these people residents of Fayston? It doesn't say anywhere, and even if they were, it doesn't seem like it fits on the general town page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.39.7.34 (talk) 16:33, 17 April 2014 (UTC)

Rights are the products of promises.

People ask where rights come from and what justifies them. What is clear for example is that all private contract rights are the products of promises. In fact promises serve no other purpose than to create expectations which, if recognized as legally binding in a given jurisdiction, become legal rights in that jurisdiction. In most legal jurisdictions the validity of the right created by a promise is based on: 1. - the performer being the one who made the promise. It's no use if I promise you what Jim will do for you. Jim has to promise you if you are to enjoy the 'right' to expect Jim's performance. 2. - the promise must be realistic; within the capacity of the promiser. There's no right to the expection of a pauper's promise to pay you a million dollars tomorrow. 3. - the promise must be to perform something legal and not illegal.

This, of course, throws doubts on the validity of governments promising rights to some citizens which have to be performed by other citizens or/and all taxpayers.

Meanwhile it clearly explains the basis of the negative freedom rights to life, liberty and property from the tacit promise all peaceful, honest, productive and cooperative - civilized - people signal in body language and polite social manners to each other all day: "I promise I won't harm you if you don't harm me". Of course vested interest politicians who abuse their powers of authority to force some to perform for the benefit of others rarely qualify as peaceful, honest, productive, cooperative or civilized. That's why they are the least trusted profession.

Historically, armies conquered peoples who, being vanquished, had no rights. Some were enslaved and others were conceded some rights by their new masters, say, to keep on producing whatever needed goods or services they always had done. So in continental Europe, where they were endlessly conquering each other, what in the English speaking world are known as Law students, instead study Rechts, Droits, Derechos. The Anglo perspective that Law is to limit harm-to-others changes for a continental perspective of Rights being the only relief from slavery to the despotism of the bureaucracy of conquering sovereign. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.32.24.245 (talk) 20:31, 20 April 2014 (UTC)

YELLING won't help. In this case I don't think what is happening is vandalism. Edit warring yes but vandalizing no. I think we have good intentions to change the spelling to a format that the new editor is used to using. It's important to point out that the spelling was correct for the article. I would suggest everyone involved take a dose of WP:AGF here cause I think it's a big misunderstanding all around. Hell in a Bucket (talk) 22:43, 20 April 2014 (UTC)

S.L. Benfica

Hi there,

The text that I had edited claimed that Benfica S.L. is the most widely-supported football club in the world. Both of the sources cited by the user who continually edited my posts said that Benfica is the club with the most paid members, and the club with the most members giving financial support. Neither citation had information relevant to the claim, and so I corrected the article numerous times to more accurately display the content of the sources.

The text added by the user, that claims Benfica is the most widely-supported football club in the world, is simply false. There is not a single available, credible source that lists Benfica S.L. as the world's most-supported club. The claim to the contrary should be removed from the article, as there is no evidence to support the claim, and the user who continues to edit it does not understand the content of the sources they are citing. SorenLegatus (talk) 21:04, 22 April 2014 (UTC)

That's exactly what support means. 85.247.249.199 (talk) 23:24, 22 April 2014 (UTC)
There is evidence that Benfica is of the clubs with most fans around the world and that Benfica is the Portuguese club with most fans. Now let's go to the point. "Supporter (sports): Someone who is a fan of a certain team or sportsperson". "Member: One who officially belongs to a group". This is all about "member" vs "fan/supporter". 85.247.249.199 (talk) 23:56, 22 April 2014 (UTC)

This is exactly my point. Do you believe that Benfica has more supporters than Man United? Barcelona? Real Madrid? Chelsea? Those are the current top 4 most supported teams in the world. If those are the top 4, which numerous polls and surveys say that they are, then how can Benfica have the most supporters? Additionally, the first source claims that, in 2006, Benfica had roughly 160,000 "paid-up members." Benfica easily have five times that many supporters, so it's obvious that the citation is not actually talking about the number of fans. It's talking about affiliated members or dues-payers. They definitely have the most in Portugal, and many around the world, but to say they are the most widely supported club is simply not true. The article should show that they are one of the most supported, which is true, or that they have the most members, which is also true. It currently says that they have the most supporters, which is false. SorenLegatus (talk) 00:48, 23 April 2014 (UTC)

Greeks of the Sea TV Documentary Series

Hi Katie,

I have been compiling the above article over the past few weeks, and as a first time user have struggled somewhat with the complexities of putting together a Wikipedia page. It appears to have now been deleted? The article is about a TV Documentary series which has been produced in association with a Government public broadcaster, SBS Australia, which is a sister organisation to the ABC. I have been following other similar TV documentary formats which appear on Wikipedia such as "Britain and the Sea", a BBC production. I sincerely apologise if I have made any errors and would appreciate your advices as to how I can rectify the situation.

Sincerely

I'll add that Wikipedia:Articles for creation is the best venue for an editor with a conflict of interest to submit an article. If you decide to do that, your submission should conform to the requirements summarized in WP:42 before it will be accepted, and it must not contain any text that has been published elsewhere. (Even if you have the authority to reproduce copyright text, Wikipedia doesn't, and user accounts cannot grant that authority.) ~Amatulić (talk) 17:30, 23 April 2014 (UTC)

Reverting on BLP's

Hi there,

Please be a smidgen more careful when reverting large scale removal of content from BLP's. Your revert at Can Ergenekan actually restored a whole paragraph worth of BLP violations. While you were correct that it was unexplained and they should have used an edit summary, new users (and especially the subjects of articles) often don't know these things, but this doesn't make their removal of BLP-violating content any less correct. Taking a moment to slow down and review the content you're restoring, especially on BLP articles, is my recommendation.

Hillsborough talk page

This is also being discussed at WP:ANI#Talk:Hillsborough disaster this is what I said there:

"Another change [1] but he's left the topic collapsed so I suggest we leave this one be and see what happens next. If he doesn't leave the talk page alone then further reverts and semi-protection would be the way to go."

I may be being hopeful, but I've a feeling that if we let this current edit go he'll leave it at that. And since the subject is collapsed, letting it go doesn't make a lot of difference. Thanks for your help, regardless. 2.25.115.116 (talk) 21:28, 25 April 2014 (UTC)

Unsure how to refrence

I'm very new to wikipedia, and i've recently posted something on the secret saturdays being a message to fans about how to revive the show. I have confirmation from the creator of the show but i am extremely unsure how to reference to a conversation between me and the creator of the show (I deleted information for this post because i wrote this before i made an account but my username is NicolangeloLeone)

You can't include it in the page as it would be Original Research which Wikipedia doesn't allow.Katieh5584 (talk) 11:53, 26 April 2014 (UTC)

Hello Katieh5584. Thanks for patrolling new pages – it's a very important task! I'm just letting you know, however, that you shouldn't tag pages as lacking context (CSD A1), or content (CSD A3), moments after they are created, as you did at Vanja Bulić. It's best to wait at least 10–15 minutes for more content to be added if the page is very short, and the articles should not be marked as patrolled. Tagging such pages in a very short space of time may drive away well-meaning contributors, which is not good for Wikipedia. Attack pages (G10), blatant nonsense (G1), copyright violations (G12) and pure vandalism/blatant hoaxes (G3) should of course be tagged and deleted immediately. The artilce was only created one minute before you tagged it, wait a bit before you tag pages or use {{uw-draftfirst}} :P TheMesquito (talk) 21:15, 28 April 2014 (UTC)

Hi Katieh5584,

Usernames

Hi Katie. I saw that you got rebuked at WP:UAA, so I thought I could pass along some of my experience on how best to handle problem usernames.

  • No edit history whatsoever - Definitely not material for UAA - we can't admonish them on suspicion alone. If they are an obvious match to a company or organization but have not made any edits at all, then you could leave them a {{uw-username}} warning.
  • Only WP:AFC submissions - The UAA admins won't block these on sight. However if they are an obvious WP:COI, either writing about themselves or something they represent, a {{uw-coi-username}} warning is appropriate.
  • Edits in main article space or user space - These are reportable to UAA and will get whacked with the big hammer.

I hope this helps - it took me a while to understand the procedures. Keep up the good work! --Drm310 (talk) 05:52, 30 April 2014 (UTC)

I used this username because it is for a group class project at UW. Will that be okay? My teacher instructed us to do so.

User:FResearchGroup

I do not understand why you need to delete User:FResearchGroup. Please help me understand, what our mistake was.

Since the user account is blocked I use my other personal account to contact you. I am a German linguist working mostly with Sami languages and adding encyclopedic information to relevant articles. I write in different language versions of Wikipedia, but at present mostly in German. You can easily check my contributions to Wikipedia.

Recently, I opened a new user account at Commons under the name commons:user:FResearchGroup (see the short explanation there). We wanted to use this account for our whole research group to upload media originating from our work. We thought that we could also use this account for writing as a group in Wikipedia. Popularization of the results of our research we consider an important part of our professional work. Therefore we do not need to write anonymously, we thought. That is why I provided the link to the project webpage at our university. To let other users know who we are.

If you find this blatant advertisement, please tell us before you block and delete. If these kinds of links are not allowed (we are sorry, be we did not know) we are happy to take it away again.

--Michael.riessler (talk) 14:11, 2 May 2014 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) English Wikipedia's username policy states that account names can never represent a group of people or an organization, and an account can never be shared between different people. Accounts can only ever represent and be used by a single individual. The rules at Commons appear to be different, which is why I can understand your confusion. I am sorry to say that each member of your group will require their own Wikipedia account if they don't wish to edit anonymously. Best of luck. --Drm310 (talk) 18:28, 2 May 2014 (UTC)
Thank you for helping me understand the problem. What I still do not understand is why my account (and even my IP address) is blocked. The username policy states: "administrators should examine the user's edits to decide whether or not to allow them to create a new username […] Users who adopt such usernames, but who are not editing problematically in related articles, should not be blocked. Instead, they should be gently encouraged to change their username." Since so far it was me (i.e. Michael.riessler) alone who used the new group account and there were no promotional editing done whatsoever (except that I "promoted" my real identity on my own user page), I kindly ask you to give me the opportunity to change my username. In the future I will follow the rules and not share this account with other individuals. Thank you! --Michael.riessler (talk) 19:06, 2 May 2014 (UTC)
Unfortunately I am not an administrator, nor is Katie5584, and it's beyond either of our power to grant your request. You should direct your inquiry to the admin who blocked the account, Jimfbleak. He may provide you with a clearer explanation of why he blocked the account, and grant you an opportunity to submit a change of username. I hope you get a satisfactory resolution. --Drm310 (talk) 20:54, 2 May 2014 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) I left a message at Michael.riessler's talk page to see if we can get this fixed. §FreeRangeFrogcroak 21:32, 2 May 2014 (UTC)

Sorry, but it is up to us--that's what makes us editors, not robotic aggregators of factoids. It's "well-sourced" if by that you mean that there is something that seems to prove that it is true, but "well-sourced" should really mean that it is sourced reliably and independently--if only to determine that it is a factoid worth inclusion, because a secondary source has remarked on it. I'm somewhat surprised you let yourself get dragged up to a third revert on such a minor matter, but I'm sure you won't let that happen again. Thank you, Drmies (talk) 00:47, 3 May 2014 (UTC)

Template messages

You may want try methods of communication other than the default template messages a little more often. For example, here the user actually tried to reply and talk to you, only to be answered by more standard templates. Answering his questions and explaining why the images were inappropriate might have helped end the escalation (and the edit war). Another example would be User talk:Manvender Singh Rathore (Mvndr4u); I'm not sure what that user is aiming for, and it may well be inappropriate for Wikipedia, but I doubt yet more default templates will resolve the issue. Alliance for Bangladesh Worker Safety edits

The section "Background" is not needed and full of suppositions that cannot be verified or proven. Adding statements like "The agreement was signed by Primark, Loblaw, Bonmarché (reluctantly)" is not a provable statement. You can't know if they reluctantly signed or not.

The section is based on biased opinion and should be removed to maintain fairness and balance. Afbws (talk) 21:29, 5 May 2014 (UTC)AFBWS

Things written in Foreign

I've deleted the Rifat one - it was in Turkish (a good clue was the words Ankara and Tűrk near the start). And the word 'resume' in the blogspot URL gave a very good clue that A7 would be involved... The other one is Arabic and in translation it looks odd - coherent but I can't see the meaning. I've tagged it as Arabic. A tip: if not sure what language things are, drop a few words into Google Search in quotes. That way you often pick up a copyvio. Or use Google Translate first - 'detect language' setting. If that doesn't work, try G search without quotes and look at the national domains of sites - with luck, you might pick up a Wikpedia page in the language. All of us that work PNT regularly use tricks like these and act casually as though we speak all the languages. You get to spot things - an ı (i with no dot) has to be a Turkic language and likely will be Turkish or Northern Azeri; loads of x and w and double vowels is Somali; Arabic looking things will be Arabic, Farsi or less often Urdu; stuff that looks as if it's written mirror fashion with loads of w u and q is Armenian; and so on. It's quite good fun being a language detective. Peridon (talk) 17:05, 6 May 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for the tips.Katieh5584 (talk) 17:06, 6 May 2014 (UTC)

A couple of things

One - if a page author has blanked the page, and they are the main contributor (i.e. all the others have been tags, typos or gnomish things), don't revert them. Just tag G7. The other is U5. This is really for the fantasy football tables, things that are very obviously CVs (resumés if you're on the wrong side of the pond...), and ranting. Things that look like articles (or someone completely new's idea of an article) probably are draft (not Draft:) articles and should be left (unless attack, copyvio, hoax or spam...). If they've been there for a long time, yes, tag them or MfD as FAKEARTICLE. If they're fresh, give them some chance to grow, and contact the author to see if they need help. A lot do start articles on their user page instead of on a subpage. If they say it's finished, ask about moving it into article space. If not, keep an eye on it. Peridon (talk) 19:48, 7 May 2014 (UTC)

OK, thanks.Katieh5584 (talk) 19:55, 7 May 2014 (UTC)

U5 again

Hi Katieh5584. I've just declined your U5 tag on User talk:ChristinaAklein. Please don't use U5 for deleting userpages unless there's no conceivable way that the content could be relevant to Wikipedia. In this instance, the user was trying to ask a question about an article, which is a perfectly valid use of their talkpage. Your work with the other speedy deletion tags is pretty exemplary, but this one seems to be tripping you up - it might be worth re-reading the criterion. Yunshui  07:19, 8 May 2014 (UTC)

User talk:A delicious pot pie

Please be careful with things like these. Editors are free to remove most of the stuff from their talk pages, with few exceptions. In fact, the removal serves as a "read receipt" of sorts. They are not required to reply to you (or even the SPI). You need to be less fixated on these types of things. These series of edits don't fall under vandalism or BLP reverts in any way and can cause you to be blocked for 3RR. §FreeRangeFrogcroak 18:42, 10 May 2014 (UTC)
