An important letter

Dear roads editor,

You may have noticed some changes at WP:USRD lately. Some of them, like the cleanup templates and the stub templates, have been astounding and great. Unfortunately, others have been disturbing.

This has become evidenced by the departure of a few prominent editors at USRD, a few RFC's, and much fighting among USRD editors.

After the second RFC, many of us found the opportunity to take a step away from Wikipedia for a while--as a self-imposed wikibreak, or possibly on vacation.

The result of such introspection was that many of us were placing ourselves in a "walled garden" and on a self-imposed pedestal of authority over the roads department. Also, we were being hostile to a few users who were not agreeing with us.

In fact, IRC has been the main incarnation of this "walled garden." Decisions have been made there to conduct grudges and prejudices against a few valued USRD users with poor justification.

For this, we have come to apologize. We have come to ask your forgiveness.

In addition to this, we hope to work as one USRD team from now on and to encourage cooperation instead of the promotion of interests.

All users are welcome to collaborate on IRC, the newsletter, or anywhere else at USRD.

In the future, please feel free to approach us about any issues you may have.

Washington

While you were gone the WP:WASH fell apart. One new editor has been editing those pages, but has not been adhering to standards. Currently Washington is the 40th best state in terms of article quality (not great!) I've been tied up with California and other USRD matters and have ignored it. I completed Wikipedia:WikiProject Washington State Highways/When each route was added to the state highway system. Except for SR 31 and the Cascade Wagon Road, I am pretty sure about everything before 1950. After 1950, however, Google doesn't have all the laws scanned, so those changes won't be as precise. US 410

I've confirmed that the US 410 to US 12 change was in late 1967: Talk:Washington State Route 410. Apparently AASHO approved it in June, but signs were changed in December. If you're going to cite one, I recommend the December 27 article.

Unfortunately I could find nothing about the US 830 change except for one mention in February 1968 that says it was part of the same changes. It's definitely possible that it was and yet happened in early 1968, if the signs were changed in two phases. I would assume that AASHO approved both changes at their June 1967 meeting, but again I haven't found anything definite. --NE2 15:18, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

What I've used in California, for instance for SR 160 (references 15-16, 20-22, etc.), is enough to find the relevant law. [Milepost] "Each profile breakpoint is identified by the milepost value corresponding to that point on the highway. The milepost values increase from the beginning of a route within a count to the next county line. The milepost values start over again at each county line. Milepost values usually increase from south to north or west to east depending upon the general direction the route follows within the state. The milepost at a given location will remain the same year after year. When a section of road is relocated, new milepost (usually noted by an alphabetical prefix such as "R" or "M") are established for it. If relocation results in a change in length, "milepost equations" are introduced at the end of each relocated portion so that mileposts on the reminder of the route within the county will remain unchanged."

Because History isn't complete enough to justify being counted as "being present", in my opinion. Yes, there is a history, but the first two sentences are merely route description details, and the other two are really about the history of US-2 and WA-41, only tangentially related to ID-41 itself. Even disregarding that, the history section presently only covers a single realignment that happened in 1997 and covers nothing about the early history of ID-41 (such as when it was commissioned and any other major realignments since then). Thus, I don't feel that it falls below the bar set to consider the History section ticked off the checklist, and thus the article isn't up to the B-Class standard. —Scott5114↗ [EXACT CHANGE ONLY] 20:30, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

By the way, if this was for User:Kéiryn/Unwritten, Wikipedia:WikiProject U.S. Roads/Nevada/completion list should have a full list of routes that have existed, with all three-digit routes marked former if so. Those with shields actually exist; those with FAU/FAS/SAR labels do not; I count 17 current routes without articles (787 was left out). Re: Washington infoboxes

I was only curious. MD has a specialized infobox too. I know that {{infobox road}} can handle the law links and things, but if there's specialized numbering issues in WA, then that's understandable. Wikimapia on New York State Route 25D

The claim is that Nassau Boulevard was converted into service roads for the LIE. What will show that is a pre-LIE map that shows Nassau/Horace Harding Boulevard continuing east from Lakeville Road and west from Little Neck Parkway. --NE2 02:56, 19 June 2008 (UTC)

Yes, but some sections of Nassau/Horace Harding were converted into the LIE service roads, while other sections broke away from it. Highlighting is exactly what I use WikiMapia for. You're right about one thing, any schlub can say any old road used to be part of NY 25D. The same way any schlub can make any map and say that a road was built a certain way, whether it was or not. For the record, it's not always true that a map can't show former sections of Nassau Boulevard being turned into service roads. Just out of curiosty, have you checked the complete history of this article? If not, I suggest that you do so. ----DanTD (talk) 23:59, 22 June 2008 (UTC)

The reason I wanted you to check the history was to show you that it was originally copied from a source that had mentioned the conversion to service roads. TwinsMetsFan was the editor who did most of the upgrades on it. While you're right that present day maps can't show the former layout of NY 25D before Long Island Expressway and its service roads replaced them, past maps and accompanying highlighted sections of the surviving road can. ----00:31, 23 June 2008 (UTC)

A mess of shield template

75.47.194.16 keep messing up the shield template by deliberating false intro by adding state-name specific which terminates over 20 years ago. I had to undo most of the mess he made. OR I thoguht no longer use state-name specific. After I undo the changes he add the state-name specific. For WA I thoguht the interstates is big text numbers. Now MUTCD I thought make neutral shields by big text which is closer to todays.--Freewayguy ^{Call? Fish} 03:27, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

Per WP:OVERLINK common units of measurement, such as feet and meters, should not be linked. I got dinged for this at my last FAC. That's why I did not link those units. It's a test of mine. These are different designations given to bridges, using the designation and adding an X. I may remove them, but I wanna see how it turns out before I do that. If it works, I'll have something no one else has. As per the 9DX and type, its the only way that they can be named. I-405

Kéiryn - I am working on redoing the 405 article, as well its small for what it is and didn't even have a RD. Now, yes, I have one listed on my sandbox now, but it needs a copy edit, but I also have not been back home since they started tearing up the Coal Creek Parkway interchange, and I don't know how its laid out anymore. Could you possibly lend me a hand with that chunk of the RD on my sandbox, and possibly copy edit the RD?

Not a problem. Do you have some sort of script that parses the individual states, and then another one to export the spreadsheet to the wikitable, or do you do it all by hand? SR 57 (CA)

What's the difference between when a route is signed as a state hgihway and when it was number. Because at SR 57 article it said SR 57 was signed as state highway in 1931 and the number was signed in 1964.--Freewayguy ^{What's up?} 03:11, 23 August 2008 (UTC)

From what I've learnt SR 57 is always SR 57. 1964 was when it was signed, and SR 57 was formerly Diamond Bar Blvd. I know 1964 July 1, was the whole California overnumbering, I think Washington state is too.--Freewayguy ^{What's up?} 03:28, 23 August 2008 (UTC)
