Did you solve the problem?? Miss Bono [zootalk] 13:48, 23 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Yup! I made a page! I was looking for a fast way to do it, and hey! I got one! UME PrepJustaguy120 (talk) 13:55, 23 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

I am glad you could solve the problem. You know where I am if there is any problem :) Miss Bono [zootalk] 13:59, 23 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

LOL. You're fun.Justaguy120 (talk) 14:00, 23 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Why? Miss Bono [zootalk] 14:02, 23 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Well, everyone else just acts like the Wiki is life-or-death. You make it a lot more enjoyable. You always seem to have a positive attitude, and you add a little spark of humor to everything.Justaguy120 (talk) 14:06, 23 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for that. I didn't know you had heard about me before :? Miss Bono [zootalk] 14:10, 23 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

ya. I accidentally put the teahouse on my watchlist, and now I can't get it off. My watchlist is flooded with comments from the teahouse, including yours. That brings me to my next Q, how can I get it off my watchlis?Justaguy120 (talk) 14:17, 23 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Easy: There is a link that says: View and edit watchlist . Click on it. There is a box that says: Wikipedia, you're going to see this: Wikipedia:Teahouse/Questions (talk | History), click on the checkbox. Go to the bottom of the page and click on Remove Titles... and Done :) Miss Bono [zootalk] 14:24, 23 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

That's great but, and you're not the first one so don't worry, you forgot I use mobile.Justaguy120 (talk) 14:32, 23 July 2013 (UTC)gotta goReply

I'm back!Justaguy120 (talk) 14:46, 23 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Oops! :'( I will have to see how is that with a mobile. I have no wifi, therefore I don't use mobile. can you describe the menus so I can help you better?? Miss Bono [zootalk] 14:58, 23 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

The menu options are Home, Random (because everyone uses that), watchlist, upload, and log out. When I tap on watchlist, the Teahouse isn't displayed, but when I go to modified, it's flooded with house stuff. I've gone to the teahouse repeadedly to tell it to get off my list, but it won't work. And what device do you have?Justaguy120 (talk) 15:04, 23 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

I use a computer. I think you should ask User:Cullen328 about that. He often uses a smartphone, maybe he knows about what is going on with your watchlist. You are the first one here (I think) that tells me I am funny. Thanks for the autograph :D Miss Bono [zootalk] 15:15, 23 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

1:Thanks much! I'll ask him! 2: NP with autograph. 3: I meant what is the device you referenced to about no wifi? 4: What were you saying tells you ur funny? I had more, but during that time someone else edited page, and I had to rewrite.

No problem. You n¡know where you can find me... so, anytime you need my help just drop me a line I will be more than happy to help you. And about the wifi... I have a smartphone but there is no wifi where I can connect it. Long story :) Miss Bono [zootalk] 15:33, 23 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

See ya! Oh, and keep watching my page User:Justaguy120. I will be updating it frequently. I'll keep in touch.

Okis!! :) Miss Bono [zootalk] 15:40, 23 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

New Help Request

edit

(Moved from top of page)

Is there any way I could advertise my new page, so more people can help me construct it? Also, I can't figure out how, nor do I care to, delete a page I created. Could one of you helpers please do it? It is User:Justaguy120/Sandbox. Thanks much!Justaguy120 (talk) 14:58, 23 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Reply to {{Help me}} request: Everything you need to know about deleting a page on Wikipedia is in this policy: WP:Delete. There's no way to "advertise" you page, however you can find help from other Wikipedia editors at the WP:Help desk. If you want to give me the name of the article and the help you need in your reply here I'll be happy to help you if I can, just reply to this message. I'll be watching this page and I'll return to answer your questions as soon as I can. —    Bill W.    (Talk)  (Contrib)  — 15:19, 23 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

I recently created the page, UME Prep. I need lots of work done on it. More info in talk section UME, above.Justaguy120 (talk) 15:32, 23 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
(Correcting myself) First thing you will need to do is establish notability to satisfy this policy WP:Notability (high schools). To do this you need to provide verifiable references from reliable third party sources. The tag {{speedy deletion-significance}} has been removed because schools do not qualify for a "speedy" although another editor could still recommend deletion throught the regular deletion processes of WP:Articles for deletion or WP:PROD. You should continue working on improving the article and you should not have further problems. Please let me know here if you need further help. —    Bill W.    (Talk)  (Contrib)  — 16:30, 23 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
Did YOU put the tag on there?
I did not. And it has now been removed. Please see my corrected comment above for more information. —    Bill W.    (Talk)  (Contrib)  — 16:42, 23 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
OK. Thanks much!Justaguy120 (talk) 16:45, 23 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
Bill, WP:Notability (high schools) is not a policy on Wikipedia. It's misleading to refer to it as such when it has not gone through the same formal discussion and vetting by the vast majority of editors that is required for policy. While there is no policy on schools, the general outcome is that high schools are generally accepted as notable when there is a secondary source that simply verifies they exist. Though, when independent coverage is available, it is best to include it. I, Jethrobot drop me a line (note: not a bot!) 16:53, 23 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
True. Sorry for the error in nomenclature. WP:Notability (high schools) is not a policy, it is advice from other editors in the form of an essay and essays are not policy. However if your article covers all the bases mentioned there, you won't have to defend it any further should someone try to get it deleted. (And to reply to the deleted comment: We all try our best, with a few exceptions, but getting advice is like anything else it's best if you can get more than one opinion.) —    Bill W.    (Talk)  (Contrib)  — 17:55, 23 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

What on Earth is my text doing?Justaguy120 (talk) 17:00, 23 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

If you start a line with leading spaces (like the one above), you get that kind of format-less text, so be sure to start new lines without any leading spaces. Also, I don't think you need to go so far as to not trust Bill above. He was trying to be helpful by answering your question, and probably only made a mistake. It's a little mean-spirited on a collaborative project to make such a dramatic comparison. I, Jethrobot drop me a line (note: not a bot!) 17:16, 23 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

How do you thank people for edits?Justaguy120 (talk) 17:27, 23 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Check any page's edit history and you'll see a "thank" button next to each change. Click it, and presto, insta-appreciation. I, Jethrobot drop me a line (note: not a bot!) 17:50, 23 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, Bill. Justaguy120 (talk) 18:34, 23 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Not a problem. I could see you were just venting, so I did not get upset. I know how frustrating this all can be at first. I also thought if I replied to your deleted comment that it might serve to remind you that nothing is ever truly deleted around here because the history is always there. —    Bill W.    (Talk)  (Contrib)  — 18:53, 23 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of UME Preparatory Academy

edit

Hello Justaguy120,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged UME Preparatory Academy for deletion, because the article doesn't clearly say why the subject is important enough to be included in an encyclopedia.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Vanjagenije (talk) 16:18, 23 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Friends

edit

There are two users I have really enjoyed working with. Miss Bono and I, Jethrobot, I know this sounds totally corny but, wanna be friends?Justaguy120 (talk) 21:19, 23 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Y Aye. I'm down with that. Just bear in mind that there is a fine line between Wikipedia and a social network. Some fun is OK, and like the founder Jimbo, I think it's healthy for ourselves and the project to get to know one another, but not in so much excess that we lose sight of actually building an encyclopedia. There are also some who frown upon most kinds of fun and relationship-forming here because it doesn't "contribute to the encyclopedia", so keep in mind that not everyone will agree on what kinds of activities are/are not OK. I, Jethrobot drop me a line (note: not a bot!) 21:48, 23 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

K. Good to know. I'm still working on articles. Justaguy120 (talk) 21:51, 23 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hey, I Jethrobot, and Justaguy, I am an editor who takes a moderate position on this issue. I reveal a fair amount of personal information on my user page, try to maintain friendly relationships with many editors, including those who have various problems, and try to avoid conflict. And I mentor Miss Bono. But I don't go around talking very much about "friendships" per se, or matters unrelated to improving the encyclopedia. This is a monumental project with a well-defined goal: creating an ever-improving encyclopedia, free for everyone. Any social interaction that advances that goal is fine with me. Chit-chat that doesn't have anything to do with improving the encyclopedia is not OK with me. The essay you linked to, I Jethrobot, does not seem to represent any significant opinion among active editors, in my opinion. I see it as an outlier. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 23:52, 23 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Dude, I'm just saying we're friends. I never said I was chit-chatting about nothing.Justaguy120 (talk) 00:53, 24 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Dude, you and I can be friends, just as I am friendly with Miss Bono and with I Jethrobot. But it must be in the context of improving the encyclopedia. Otherwise, there are plenty of other websites devoted to socializing, and I participate in several of them. All your comments here are available for scrutiny by every editor. By the way, I have been studying use of the term "dude" for over 40 years. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 02:00, 24 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

OK, OK. No offense, but THAT cracked me up. So tell me the exact definition of "dude", which, technically, is not a real word.Justaguy120 (talk) 02:05, 24 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Oh, it most certainly is a "real word" with a long and colorful history as explained in our excellent article, Dude. In my childhood, I identified first with the "very well dressed" or "overdressed" meaning, and also with the "dude ranch" or city slicker definition, the opposite of a genuine cowboy. As my ancestry combined rural Idaho and urban Detroit antecedents, the word resonated with me. After I came to California, and even a bit before, I recognized it as surfer terminology. Of course, I recognize how symbolic the word is in the work of Steely Dan and especially Peter Frampton. And as a convert to Judaism, and father of a young man who is a dedicated bowler, I certainly relate to its usage in The Big Lebowski. But in the present context, I am thoroughly familiar with its online usage as a "friendly" term to lord it over a rhetorical opponent. I never go there, unless someone else does first. I hope this helps. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 02:41, 24 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Well, you showed your humorous side on your talk page. I never looked into the word dude, and I actually find that quite interesting. I just heard, you know, how kids use it these days. Want to be friends? Justaguy120 (talk) 02:46, 24 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Yes, I want to be friends, if our friendship is to be based on improving encyclopedia articles. Thank you for the pie, by the way. Our mutual friend, Miss Bono, has wonderful goals but also has problems with internet access because of where she lives. So my suggestion to you is to consider helping her with her research needs, as I presume you have basic Google skills. Familiarize yourself with all the key policies described in WP:5P and WP:PRIMER, and then assist Miss Bono as a research assistant for a couple of months. I will happily answer any serious questions you have. If you do so, you will earn my respect. Otherwise, Facebook is thataway ---->. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 03:36, 24 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Actually, Miss Bono has been helping me. See the conversation above that I'm keeping. I don't think I hve any authority over her. What probs does she have with the wifi? And, does she ever go on at night owl times? If your getting sick of Qs, tell me. I won't take it the wrong way. One last thing: don't have Facebook.Justaguy120 (talk) 03:42, 24 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Just... I am never around here at night, because I only have access to Wikipedia at work (btw, the rest of the Internet sites are blocked at work, that's why I have Internet problems as Cullen328 said, somewhere up there ↑). I am glad to be your WikiFriend and work along with you to improve the Wiki :)... I am also glad to helo you anytime you need it :) Another btw, I have read the Miss Bono section Cullen removed, It was on the History... Still don't get why you didn't want me to see it :? Another question, isn't easier for you to edit using a computer, why don't you use one? Miss Bono [zootalk] 12:09, 24 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

1) Great! I've added you to my friends! 2)I didn't want you to fell violated. 3)I don't have access to a computer.

Violated? No, I don't... Believe me I will tell you when I feel that way, or you will know before I tell you :P I am very sensitive. But don't worry. Cullen will cover your back... and mine :) Miss Bono [zootalk] 13:28, 24 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

User Status Template

edit

Hey-- just wanted to suggest a simple template for a status update that you can use on your talk/user pages. You can check out the template here: Template:UserStatus. I, Jethrobot drop me a line (note: not a bot!) 16:52, 25 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hey, I Jethrobot. This looks graet but I can't figure out how to work it. The page is unclear as to exactly how to type it. Can you explain please? Justaguy120 (talk) 03:29, 26 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, sorry about the delay. I was trying to see if there was an easier template to use for status updates, but I wasn't successful. Basically, you need to create a user page, User:Justaguy120/Status, where you will simply write one of the keywords found on Template:UserStatus like "online" or "working" or "wikibreak" (except no quotes) as you need to change it. Then, on your talkpage and/or userpage, you can put {{UserStatus}} wherever you want to display your status. There is another template that works pretty much the same way, Template:Statustop, except it puts it at the very top of the page and there are fewer options. I can get either one of these systems set up for you if you're not sure how to proceed. I, Jethrobot drop me a line (note: not a bot!) 05:05, 31 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of UME Preparatory Academy

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on UME Preparatory Academy, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator.
