Swedish translation

Hello. I was on Wikipedia:Translators available and notice that you were on the list for Swedish to English translators and wondered if you could translate Christopher, Duke of Lolland? Thank you.--The Emperor's New Spy (talk) 04:35, 2 November 2012 (UTC)

help

My French Wikipedia is blocked now. Fête (talk) 23:07, 20 December 2012 (UTC)

There is nothing anyone on the English Wikipedia can do about it. You can try to talk to the admin who blocked you, fr:Utilisateur:Hégésippe Cormier, or any other admin on the French Wikipedia. jonkerz ♠talk 23:11, 20 December 2012 (UTC)

I have already to ask Hégésippe Cormier, but he doesn't want to unblock me unfortunately. Fête (talk) 23:18, 20 December 2012 (UTC)

Maybe you were blocked for a good reason, I do not know, but "récidive dans le harcèlement de contributeurs" sounds pretty serious. Sometimes the best you can do it to wait and then try again in a few months with another admin and give them a good reason to unblock you. There is nothing I can do, sorry. jonkerz ♠talk 23:43, 20 December 2012 (UTC)

Of course =) I cannot be of much help though; I didn't even manage to get halfway through when I tried to watch the film a couple of years ago.. it was boring, nobody got shot etc =) The article is much better than the film, kudos to you for bringing it up to GA. jonkerz ♠talk 01:32, 24 April 2013 (UTC)
Well, I haven't brought it up to GA quite yet, but I have submitted it for review as a candidate, after a lot of research and adding 70 or so secondary sources, so hopefully it will pass and get promoted whenever a reviewer comes along. Thanks for your kind words, — Cirt (talk) 01:33, 24 April 2013 (UTC)

Polaris (1997 role-playing game)

This is an automated message from MadmanBot. I have performed a search with the contents of Polaris (1997 role-playing game), and it appears to be very similar to another Wikipedia page: Polaris (role-playing game). It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case. If you are intentionally trying to rename an article, please see Help:Moving a page for instructions on how to do this without copying and pasting. If you are trying to move or copy content from one article to a different one, please see Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia and be sure you have acknowledged the duplication of material in an edit summary to preserve attribution history.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. MadmanBot (talk) 22:34, 24 April 2013 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Thespis (disambiguation)

Hello Jonkerz,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Thespis (disambiguation) for deletion, because the article doesn't clearly say why the subject is significant enough to be included in an encyclopedia, and the artist doesn't have an article.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

Ysajeepan, adding links to your site en masse is very much promoting your site. It seems like the site is new, and I understand that you want people to visit it, but spamming Wikipedia with external links is not the way to go. You should concentrate on marketing your site in other venues, because adding it to WP articles is just a waste of time for the both of us. Best wishes, jonkerz ♠talk 07:43, 15 June 2013 (UTC)

Thank you fr your kind replay. If i can't put the link under the review section, shall i put my link as a reference? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ysajeepan (talkcontribs) 08:00, 15 June 2013 (UTC)

Avoid that too. The site is not a reliable source and should not be used as a source; it will probably be removed. If it's added in a promotional way like this, it will certainly be removed. You have a conflict of interest in this case, and adding links to your own sites is very frowned upon here on WP. jonkerz ♠talk 08:18, 15 June 2013 (UTC)

Hi! I did not have time to read the post in fully and had to revert it because it was crossposted (which should be avoided) and added to pages such as Wikipedia:WikiProject Cooperation/Paid editor help. Meta-Wiki may be the best place to discuss this, try to find a relevant forum on Meta and post it there. I'll read the post and see if it makes sense, if so, I'll help you to find a place to post it. jonkerz ♠talk 10:36, 18 June 2013 (UTC)
I read your post and found out the issue is already being discussed on Meta and the Catalan Wikipedia. I'll keep out of this one; the topic is far too contentious. For the record, I agree with some of your points, but you must stop using bold face and writing in capital letters if you want to get your points across. And do not edit war or crosspost; it doesn't matter if you're right or wrong, edit warring will get you blocked. I may drop a comment in the thread on Meta at a later moment, but probably not. I wish you the best of luck in this matter, and don't forget to WP:DROPTHESTICK if it takes up too much of your time, take care, jonkerz ♠talk 11:38, 18 June 2013 (UTC)

Ants

Hi - well done on the task force start - I am not very good at species info boxes etc, but think if you have the task force - maybe in the insect project tag for talk pages - coding change so that you can identify the category or item as ants=yes  ? just an idea. satusuro 00:51, 5 October 2013 (UTC)

Task force tagging would be very helpful, maybe even with a few additional parameters such as ants-priority and a parameter to indicate that there's more content in the list of open access articles not yet reused on WP. Priority params are not very unusual, but I've never seen a param such as unused-oa-content-available on any templates; I support it and think it would make collaboration easier, but it should probably be discussed at WT:INSECTS first. Are you good with coding templates? I've worked with some simple templates, but anything with nested parser functions makes my head explode :) jonkerztalk 10:35, 5 October 2013 (UTC)
P.S.: task added here. jonkerztalk 10:41, 5 October 2013 (UTC)

Zigrasimecia is up if you want to have a look. I also expanded on your Sphecicomyrmin categories in commons when I uploaded the Zigrasimecia images from the article.--Kevmin § 19:19, 14 October 2013 (UTC)

Awesome! It looks really good, well done. I like the photo (but feel a little bit sorry for that poor fella; trapped in a stone for a 100 million years, and when finally found, she's locked up inside a museum.. heh). Re. the Commons categories, thank you for taking care of that. The categories are all empty (created to house this photo, now deleted), but there are a couple of black-and-white Sphecomyrma freyi photos in this 1967 article: Wilson, E. O.; Carpenter, F. M.; Brown, W. L. (1967). "The First Mesozoic Ants, with the Description of a New Subfamily". Psyche: A Journal of Entomology. 74: 1–19. doi:10.1155/1967/89604.{{cite journal}}: CS1 maint: unflagged free DOI (link) that I'll extract and upload. jonkerztalk 20:14, 14 October 2013 (UTC)
Something to look at is Antweb, from what I can see they are licencing the site and images under CC-3 nonported. You may be able to upload images from there if you ask them.--Kevmin § 20:26, 14 October 2013 (UTC)
Their license is compatible with WP, but I couldn't find any Sphecomyrma photos in their database (but they have photos of 6 other Sphecomyrminae genera). Most of the ant photos on Commons were uploaded by a bot in 2009 (c. 30000 photos), and the bot was supposed to do monthly runs and upload new photos, but that never happened for some reason. I'll ask the people involved (see commons:Commons:AntWeb) if they can have another go at it, it would save the project a lot of time. jonkerztalk 20:39, 14 October 2013 (UTC)
Excellent Im going to do some uploading for Haidomyrmodes, which I just moved to live.--Kevmin § 20:58, 14 October 2013 (UTC)

What to do

So what is your opinion of what ot do with Armaniidae /Armaniinae. Im having a hard time figuring out where antweb stands on the placement of the group. The last few papers I looked at seem to indicate subfamily placement.--Kevmin § 04:49, 15 October 2013 (UTC)

I'm not entirely sure what to do. The group is listed as a subfamily on AntWeb, but excluded from Formicidae on AntCat (which is strange -- I thought all of AW's data was from AC's database). You are probably in a much better position to figure it out, but researching this I found that the group is listed as ru:Armaniinae on ruwp. The page was created and expanded by @Lasius: who is very good with ants, so with my limited knowledge I would guess that this is the best title/placement for the group on WP, with notes similar to EOL's "The position of the Armaniinae within the Formicidae is still uncertain, owing to the inability to discern a metapleural gland in all known fossils." There is also a page on itwp, it:Armaniinae, with the group placed as a subfamily of Formicidae, but the article was created by bot/abbozzo. What do you think? jonkerztalk 05:29, 15 October 2013 (UTC)
Looking at the last few years of peer-reviewed liturature, I would say it would be best to do a subfamily oriented article with mention that the group is paraphyletic and occasionally treated as a seperate Formicoidea family rather then a subfamily. Ive been busy with work and not had a chance to get much writing done myself. Hopefully I will be able to do more Sphecomyrmin genus writing on my days off. --Kevmin § 01:47, 19 October 2013 (UTC)
This makes sense. Once the Armaniinae article is online, another article about stem ants could be created. Getting all subfamily articles online is more important, but it's worth considering in the future and it would avoid duplication. Some excerpts from a good OA article by Ward (2007): "... The extinct Armaniinae (treated as family Armaniidae by some workers) are more distantly related but arguably the next closest known relatives to extant ants after the Sphecomyrminae (Dlussky 1999). Hence they can also be considered stem ants. ... Sphecomyrmines have this gland (Grimaldi et al. 1997), whereas it cannot be discerned in Armaniinae, although this could be a function of poorer preservation in these impression fossils. ... One of the fossil taxa, Armaniinae, is often given family rank within the superfamily Formicoidea (Engel & Grimaldi 2005). ..." from Ward, Philip S. (2007), "Phylogeny, classification, and species-level taxonomy of ants (Hymenoptera: Formicidae)." (PDF), Zootaxa, 1668: 549–563. jonkerztalk 15:26, 19 October 2013 (UTC)

Haidomyrmex

Its me again, lol. I wanted to let you know Im working on the Haidomyrmex article in my userspace now. Im planning on following the Wikiproject paleontology guidelines for extinct species. Thus im going to create an all encompassing article at the genus level and redirect the species to that page. If you want to take a look the page is here User:Kevmin/sandbox2 --Kevmin § 21:07, 21 October 2013 (UTC)

Sure! All-encompassing articles make sense for fossil taxa; I'm just happy that there's someone who can take care of all the fossil ant articles :) Minor nitpick: "Haidomyrmex is an extinct genus of ants in the Formicidae subfamily Sphecomyrminae" is really the same as saying "Haidomyrmex is an extinct genus in the family Formicidae in the Formicidae subfamily Sphecomyrminae". I understand why it's written in this way, and there's probably many editors who prefer it like this. Just a minor nitpick. jonkerztalk 00:13, 22 October 2013 (UTC)
It does seem a little odd, but I like to get both the vernacular nad scientific names into the lead if possible.--Kevmin § 02:26, 22 October 2013 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for November 9

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Dinoponera australis, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Santa Catarina, Paraná and Guairá (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Ant related article

Hi Jonkerz, If you have a chance would you care to take a look at the first article in my article sandbox? Im working on expanding it from the stub thats at Trophobiosis currently in conjunction with writing an article on Acropyga glaesaria the trophobiotic partner for the Electromyrmococcus species. Thanks!--Kevmin § 17:49, 8 November 2013 (UTC)

Awesome! I like the trophobiosis article a lot; it was an interesting read on an important subject. The article is well structured and the flow of the text is really good all the way down to the paragraph about the theory of pest resurgence from the current article. I'd prefer to move this chunk of text to a new article (it seems to be a notable theory -- otherwise it should be removed altogether). The Acropyga article is good too, but the trophobiosis article is my favorite :) and there are tons of awesome photos on Commons of ants tending aphids and other insects.
I've been meaning to write an article on plesiobiosis ("the most basic form of interspecific associations in ants, denotes occasional or regular nesting of heterospecific colonies of certain species pairs in close proximity to each other without biological interdependence") or slave-making/slave-raiding ants for the longest time but never got around to do it. Would you be interested in a trophobiosis/slave-making co-nominated DYK? I'd need some time, but I could write the article + maybe even an article on an ant species. jonkerztalk 18:50, 8 November 2013 (UTC)
Sounds like a great idea. I've had fun researching the trophobiosis aspects given the Acropyga glaesaria connection. Let me know when you are ready.--Kevmin § 22:46, 9 November 2013 (UTC)
I've added a draft to my sandbox. The article is about slave-making ants, amazing but also very horrible creatures. The lead and flow of the text still need some work; I'll work on that after expanding the article further, but the article is good enough for DYK. About the hook, something along the lines of "...did you known that ants invented farming and slavery before humans did?" would be neat, but I'm open to suggestions. I've yet to expand an article about a slave-making ant species/genus, but there is a good OA article in Psyche that could be used to expand the Rossomyrmex article.
I'm not sure how to best include two species + two concepts in the same hook, but I think "...did you known that ants (e.g. Acropyga glaesaria and Rossomyrmex sp.) invented farming and slavery before humans did?" is OK. jonkerztalk 03:35, 10 November 2013 (UTC)

Image suggestion #1

Kevmin: I'm ready. The Rossomyrmex article is now in my 2nd sandbox.

More about the hook: "The 'Did you know?' fact must be mentioned in the article and cited with an inline citation". I haven't been able to find a ref saying that slave-making in ants evolved more than 10,000 years ago (well...). Is this going to be a problem? #2: "invented" or "evolved"? "Farming" or "husbandry"? #3: Another hook?

Image + image description: ???. "...did you known that ants (e.g. Acropyga glaesaria and Rossomyrmex sp.) invented farming and slavery before humans did (ant tending an aphid pictured)?" jonkerztalk 17:20, 10 November 2013 (UTC)

I was thinking a hook along the lines of DYK "...the practices of insect slavery and husbandry are both practiced by ants?". Im going to upload the Acropyga glaesaria paratype images when I move the article to live, one of which has a great view of the E. abductus being carried.
alternatively we could go for dyk"...that Rossomyrmex species ants make slaves and Acropyga glaesaria ants were farming 15 million years ago?".--Kevmin § 15:21, 11 November 2013 (UTC)

Image #2
I prefer "...the practices of insect slavery and husbandry are both practiced by ants?", it's more catchy than the second hook (but does not include the other two articles). Either way, both are good, pick whichever you like the best. The other articles can be used for other DYKs. The Acropyga glaesaria image is really cool, but will not look good in thumbnail size (let's see once it has been uploaded). I've added a new image suggestion, but the choice of image is not very important to me. Tell me when you have moved your articles to the mainspace and I'll do the same. Will you set up the nomination page? I'll review one or two other noms ASAP. jonkerztalk 15:52, 11 November 2013 (UTC)
Im ready to upload the trophobiosis article and will set up the nomination now that I'm home from work.--Kevmin § 01:46, 12 November 2013 (UTC)
The article is up, Im going to go with the "...the practices of insect slavery and husbandry are both found in ants?" hook (and switch out the second practiced) as soon as Slavery is up.--Kevmin § 03:09, 12 November 2013 (UTC)
  Done! jonkerztalk 16:01, 12 November 2013 (UTC)
The Nomination is up, and just awaiting qpqs.--Kevmin § 17:08, 12 November 2013 (UTC)
