Wikipedia:Wikiportal/Israel
Hi Jmabel: Please contact User:Humus sapiens who wishes to start a Wikipedia:Wikiportal/Israel See his request below. Thanks IZAK 07:05, 23 May 2005 (UTC)
Hi IZAK (and everyone else here :), Do you think it's time to create Wikipedia:Wikiportal/Israel similar to Wikipedia:Wikiportal/India, Wikipedia:Wikiportal/New Zealand and other Category:Wikiportals? I'm writing this here because it was you who made those wonderful templates and we don't have a portal yet where we could communicate. What do you think? ←Humus sapiens←Talk 05:26, 23 May 2005 (UTC)
- Hi Humus, it's only me here, but I will pass your message on to "everyone". Yes, your suggestion is excellent, it is certainly time for what you describe, but I have no experience with Wikipedia portals, and if you know how, go ahead and start an Israel portal and I am sure editors of Israel-related articles will support you and join in the effort/s. Neofascism_and_religion
I am proposing a redirect from several endlessly contentious pages to a new page: Neofascism_and_religion. The three pages directly affected are Islamofascism, Islamic fascism, and Christian fascism. Any help you can give would be appreciated. :-) I am also posting this to several other folks. --Cberlet 17:17, 24 May 2005 (UTC)
Concerning our previous rift
Hi Joe, this is Linuxbeak.
I want to apologize for my rather harsh actions towards you a few months ago relating to the Wikipedians by military branch. I was a new user then, and I took what you did personally. I now wish I hadn't been so daft, but I can only now just extend my apologizes for my attitude/feelings. I hope you can find it in you to accept them. Linuxbeak | Desk 19:41, May 24, 2005 (UTC)

- Unfortunately, merely uploading ti does not make it GFDL. Images have to have a copyright tag. Burgundavia (✈ take a flight?) 07:11, May 26, 2005 (UTC)
- The romanian image has no copyright tag either, and the text you quoted does not appear on the romanian page. Burgundavia (✈ take a flight?) 01:58, May 27, 2005 (UTC)
- I was unaware of the bigger version. The small version on the romanian wiki has NO copyright tags on it, and that is what I was basing my assumption on. Burgundavia (✈ take a flight?) 16:59, May 27, 2005 (UTC)
Trust
Hi, I like your idea to list trustworthy people. Maybe it would be nice if such a credibility ranking of users could emerge on wikipedia. Something like user ranking on Ebay. Or even better, a recursive ranking like Google's PageRank, so that a 'vote' from a trustworthy person count more then a vote from a low ranked user. (I'm not too old on wikipedia, so maybe the idea was already proposed somewhere). Of course -wikipedia spirit- only positive votes should be possible. Akiss
Hi! Per your request at the Villaeg Pump, I've been keeping an eye on Armenian people, and there is this guy, User:Skylooker who continues to change into the "it didn't happen!"-version. He has reverted 4 times and been blocked, but I have reverted 3 times and don't wish to be. If you are back, can you please do so? I do not wish to wait until a minute after 24 hours after my first revert, I think that is bad form (I do not mind shamelessly asking for help though' :P). gkhan 20:17, May 27, 2005 (UTC)
- No prob, thanks for the revertion gkhan 21:43, May 27, 2005 (UTC)
- Our old friend Skylooker is back. Can you please revert, I have pushed my 3RR-priviliges almost too far. Also, before him there was an anon who changed some numbers. Normally, I wouldn't react but I know you have had a discussion on population figures, so can you look at it? gkhan 19:26, May 28, 2005 (UTC)
Category:Wikipedian Computer Scientists
hey, there. i created the above category, so, I could find fellow computer scientists really quick. you may be interested in adding your page to the category.
Also, could you please look at Patience sorting? the article claims O(n*logn(logn)) running time, which I find a bit difficult to believe at first glance. I would appreciate some help, because I looked into the TAoCP, the book on sorting, but found nothing. I'm downloading the tech refs right now and i'm gonna go over them, but i would like some help from someone with greater experience. Thanks :)

I noticed that Neil Young change (11 September to September 11) - I had noticed that previously and figured a British user had inserted that since "11 September" is still common usage there. "September 11" is more commonly heard though, won't make viewers have to look twice. Thanks for helping with the Neil entry. --Bluejay Young 21:52, May 29, 2005 (UTC)
Banu Qurayza
Hi, I received this request: "Banu Qurayza I'd be interested in your thoughts, and if you have time, your help in editing.Briangotts 02:34, 31 May 2005 (UTC)" Are you able to take a look at it, it's also being "disputed". Thanks. IZAK 03:25, 31 May 2005 (UTC)
Researching with Wikipedia
Hey Joe,
Check out my recent comments on WP:RES? Do you think we could put together a general guide to evaluating sources?
Peace,

P.N. again
I've just finished reading the Feinstein biography of Pablo Neruda, and I've been added bits and pieces to our article. I've tried to present his communism in context, and I offer it as an alternative to the piss-on-his-grave approach of TDC. For what it is worth, I now believe that Gamaliel was entirely correct in his what then seemed to be uncompromising rejection of TDC's text; I find no support it for at all in Feinstein. TDC's assertions were based on questionable sources and couched in overheated Cold War rhetoric. It may not be fair to judge TDC on just this one performance, but I'll be looking at his contributions in the future with skeptical eye, more so than before. -- Viajero | Talk 15:43, 31 May 2005 (UTC)
Names
I corrected and updated an article on a French astronomer who had been listed with her name misspelled. This was "A. Dalsanti", which I corrected to Audrey Delsanti. Someone took it upon themselves to add her middle initial so that she is now listed as Audrey C. Delsanti. I notice you made a comment (in the Village Pump (Name and biography of an actress)) to someone who had asked about this practice and based on what you said there, I believe that this entry should not have been changed. She is simply Audrey Delsanti, and, being French, she would not normally use her middle name (middle initial). We should not be imposing US conventions on non-US names. Granted, she appears in the scientific literature as A.C. Delsanti, conforming to academic practice, but her entry should really have remained simply as Audrey Delsanti, and any additional initials or names can appear within the entry. Should that entry be reverted? Eilthireach 02:13, 3 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks for your prompt response. I didn't want to make too much of it, but it did rankle with me, especially as I don't know how to change headings, alter redirects, and details such as these, and was hoping someone would take up the challenge :-) If I had known how to do it, I would simply have reverted the article and put a note on the relevant user's talkpage making the point I included in my note to you (She's French, and therefore doesn't use (is not known by) her middle names/initials. We shouldn't be imposing our English-speaking-world (or to be absolutely specific, U.S.) conventions on people from other countries and cultures). I'll just have to let it go ... Thanks again for your advice. Eilthireach 17:37, 3 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Hi. :) I thought you'd be interested to know that another member has begun an article on the above, and I fiddled with it a bit. Peace. deeceevoice 21:20, 3 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Thanks for the information, I'll recatagorize it as a U.S. play. I'm thinking about creating a category just for Yiddish plays since they belong together as a whole ratehr than in the national category. Thanks again for the information. BTW, you may be interested in my new Project WikiProject Theatre we need someone who knows something about Yiddish theatre! Ganymead 00:04, 5 Jun 2005 (UTC)
I created Category:Yiddish theatre as a subcategory of Category:Jewish film and theatre. I did go ahead and add The Worthless and will likely add a few other articles like those on Jacob Adler and Abraham Goldfaden. Please add anything else that you think should be included. I must applaud your efforts on Yiddish Theatre! Have you considered nominating any of these articles for Featured Article? Ganymead 03:52, 5 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Well, FA or no FA, I applaud your work!Ganymead 05:08, 5 Jun 2005 (UTC)
I've petitioned for arbitration against Yuber
I hope you join in the commentary against him.

Thanks for the advice
Thanks for taking the time to comment on my user page, I found the link very interesting and will definitely contribute something to that page at some point. I'm quite occupied with regular paper-reading at the moment, but hopefully will ease myself back into editing over the next week after an internet-free beach holiday for the last few days. I also found your piece on systemic bias in the Wikipedia to be very useful - those concerns form a major part of my research project. If you have any other pages/resources you can recommend looking at, I'd be very grateful if you could drop me a note at your convenience. I'm going to update my research page by the weekend, too. Thanks again illWill 22:15, 8 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Please take a look...
...at Talk:American West. I know you can't make a commitemnt, but the debate with CPret is getting, well.. interesting. I'd appreciate a brief comment there, if possible. Good luck with your work. -JCarriker 08:51, Jun 9, 2005 (UTC)
- I'm confused. While, I appreciate your response, (I'll consider your point about it not being No Original Research), why is ther no criticism of him in your posts? CPret created the article, knowing the other article existed. We both know that his interpretation of the WikiProject is inaccurate, we're participants. He denies that U.S. West contained cultrual and historic information which is simply not true. I even provided him with the link for the article version that existed when he created his article, he rejected it. His assertion's in his counterarguement amount to calling me a liar, even when I provide direct links that contradict him. Regardless of NOR, this article was improperly created from a redirect, and is riddled with POV (Didn't you say that this was "not much of an article"? ), I would appreciate it if you would call him on it— the page cannot be redirected until, someone other than me does. -JCarriker 06:31, Jun 10, 2005 (UTC) I have merged the material, but I need your support to turn it into a redirect. -JCarriker 08:29, Jun 10, 2005 (UTC)
- You're right it doesn't matter what happened months ago or why. I'm sorry to have posted something so paranoid. My family's having financial problems and my house is in danger of being taken away from me. I guess I let the stress of the situation, get the better of me. I have merged the article, I need to know if you'll support me if I make it a redirect. I'll be copying the debate on demographics to Talk:Western United States, when the page does become a redirect, as that is where it would be included now. I'm going to propose a compromise there. -with sincerest apologies, your friend, Jay (JCarriker)04:05, Jun 11, 2005 (UTC)
- There was more salvagable material than I thought there was going to be, but given its POV problems (i.e. the Romanticism) not all of the article could be saved. Still, entire sections were cut and pasted without any changes as were the External links, and References. I'd appreciate it if you could make the redirect yourself, I believe it would be less controversial than if I did, and since I've been a major player in the debate, my redirecting might also be improper. I'd like to collaborate on cleaning up the Western U.S. article sometime this month, and also take a look at the budding South Central United States article, plenty of typos, but I believe when completed this might make a good example article. I'm becoming wary of working on regions that have specific cultures identified with them, and the POV pusher that come with them. I think a region less entangled with self-identity would be a better and more stable place for an example article. What do you think? (One more thing: What do you think of my compromise proposal on the demographics section?) -JCarriker 11:03, Jun 12, 2005 (UTC)

- Have you had a chance to look at the merged Western United States article yet? -JCarriker 16:37, Jun 12, 2005 (UTC)
- This disagreement is getting out of hand. At the least they are misinterpreting our policy, at worst they are abusing them. You were there and know the projects intetions, they continue to cherry pick information and ignore points. I'd appreciate it if you could say something about this our policy, goals, and intetions, I'm at the end of my rope in dealing with these individuals.-JCarriker 09:18, Jun 13, 2005 (UTC)
- Actually, my distress was over what you adressed. I too have no problem with material being included in article just not two article over the exact same thing. Thanks, for your comments I don't feel quite so alone now. Have you read my proposed compromise on the demographics section yet. If so I'd appreciate you input? -JCarriker 17:54, Jun 13, 2005 (UTC)
- I'm taking a break from contentious subjects for a few days, too lower my wikistress. Since your intial deadline of a few days posted on Talk:American West will expire within that time I'm leaving the page to your discretion. I don't care if you decide to redirect, disambig, or rewrite the article to be about a different subject-as long as it is clear the regional article is at Western United States I'll be happy. I'll be out and about tommorrow and may or may not get aroud to Wiley, I'll let you know either way. You may also find the convesation I had with DialUp on his and my talk pages of use. Thanks. -JCarriker 10:25, Jun 16, 2005 (UTC)
Israel or Palestine for the region?
Hi Jambel, you may be interested in looking into the heated discussion at Talk:History of ancient Israel and Judah#Israel or Palestine for the region? over revisionist attempts to eradicate mention of (ancient!) "Israel" and "Judah" entirely in favor of "Palestine". Your views always add reliable balance. Thank you. IZAK 12:07, 9 Jun 2005 (UTC)
catalan
Hi, I'm a Catalan user of wikipedia. Please, say in our "taverna" all the articles we should improve about Catalonia, catalan language and so on and we'll try to do it so you can translate, improve and explain them to non-catalan people. Are you doing the same in other wikis tahn English?
Re:US/UK English
My apologies if you felt offended. I've tried my best to prevent UK -> US English changes. While I have stumbled on some bad English (non-UK changes) it's never been to offended anyone. Thank you for voicing your concern. LordBleen 06:40, Jun 16, 2005 (UTC)
