Why are you here?

  1. You are hacked off because I nominated one of your articles for deletion - This isn't the place to discuss it, I strongly suggest taking it up in the appropriate AfD discussion or on the articles talk page.
  2. You are replying to a message I left on your talk page - Don't reply here! Reply on your talk page, I'll be watching!
  3. You want to discuss an article - If it is an article I have previously contributed to, it is likely to be on my watchlist, consider starting a discussion there instead, it may generate more discussion from outside parties.
  4. You think I'm harassing you - Unlikely. I have over 20,000 pages on my watchlist, including every UK place, road, bus operator and bus route (and most rail articles). If you edit the same group of articles, we are bound to bump into each other!
  5. You actually wish to talk to me - Welcome! You are in the right place, start a new discussion at the bottom of the page!

Malvern, Worcestershire edit

Hi Jeni, the Malvern, Worcestershire article is currently being reviewed for GA. The reviewer has expressed a concern that the following refrences do not conform to Wikipedia requirements. Is there any light you can shed on this?

Ronkswood edit

Hi Jeni. Someone has created a stub for the Worcester suburb of Ronkswood. It lacks everything: infobox, coords, cats, pics, etc. If you have time, I wonder if you could apply some of your special magic and add these. When I get time I'll expand the article content.--Kudpung (talk) 14:49, 3 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Disruption edit

Why do you continually accuse me, JHunterJ and others of disruption and POV pushing? You've got to stop Purplebackpack89 (talk) 22:04, 3 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Talk:Lincoln speaks for itself on that subject (Not to mention the past ANI threads you started on the subject which went against you). Anyway, enough bickering... there is an encyclopaedia out there to write. Jeni (talk) 22:08, 3 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
Bring it to ANI. They'll agree with me. I was being bold, not disruptive. You are disruptive and a POV pusher and deserve to be blocked Purplebackpack89 (talk) 22:43, 3 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
You pick today to remove the tag, without getting more than one other opinion as to whether it's appropriate. The timing smacks of being deliberately disruptive, and reverting Jeni more so. Nev1 (talk) 22:49, 3 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
Don't worry Nev, I'm taking appropriate action now, its time this disruptive editor was blocked. Jeni (talk) 22:50, 3 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
ANI didn't do anything to my...I suspected they wouldn't. You still need to stop POV pushing and assuming bad faith of me and Hunter Purplebackpackonthetrail (talk) 14:24, 4 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, are you here to say anything meaningful? It certainly doesn't look like it! Jeni (talk) 18:24, 4 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
Now you accuse me of canvassing. What do have, a vendetta against me? Purplebackpack89 (talk) 20:36, 4 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
Did you read the editnotice? Jeni (talk) 21:06, 4 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

BTW, you don't tag disambiguation pages for importance. It says on the project tag: Disambiguation-"This does require a rating". Purplebackpack89 (talk) 22:00, 4 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

There is a difference between "not required" and "not allowed". Nev1 (talk) 22:05, 4 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
Stop making your intentionally disruptive and POINTy edits, importance isn't the rating, the rating is the class. Seriously, don't play with things which you have no idea about. Jeni (talk) 22:05, 4 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hello edit

Just followed your link from the WP:LT discussion page, and was pleased to see this:

I'm not quite sad enough for that to be the bane of my life, but it did irritate during my prolific Wikipedism phase.

Keep up the good work  — MapsMan talk | cont ] — 14:01, 6 January 2010 (UTC)

I'll be honest and say I got that from you ;-) You may remember me as Jenuk1985 (I had a username change). I'm not as active as I used to be, I spend more of my time on the SABRE Wiki now (which might interest you too) Jeni (talk) 14:21, 6 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
I'll take that as a compliment! I used to post on SABRE but stopped as it was too much like bringing my work home with me (I'm a transport engineer). SABRE wiki looks good; wonder what sources are used for the change in Primary Destinations mentioned? Presumably something even more obscure than the original LTN 1/94.  — MapsMan talk | cont ] — 19:04, 6 January 2010 (UTC)
That is an ongoing discussion! I think the logic being used is if it is marked in several maps and signposted as such, its highly likely to now be considered a primary destination. The problem is the people who should be in the know, blatantly don't have a clue! One of the members who is in the industry is trying to chase up a more up to date list, but so far failing. It has become apparent over the years that several people amongst the powers that be actually use SABRE as a reference, given the lack of official lists. As such the site management have had several requests concerning road numbering. Jeni (talk) 19:23, 6 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Worcestershierre, Warwickshierre, Yorkshierre, and Everyshierre edit

Hello Jeni/Archives/2010/January! A non-British user seems to be attempting to suggest that the Brits are not pronouncing their own British place names correctly, and appears to believe that it is a policy of Wikipedia to instruct the Brits, through the use of the IPA, how British English should be pronounced. He/she also seems to be of the opinion that it is Wikipedia policy to regard British English by default as a rhotic language, which it is not. Some British Wikipedians are trying to avoid an edit conflict and have requested my support. I have added my comments to the debate the non-British user has has started in defence of his/her multiple, WP:BOLD? changes to IPA pronunciations of British place names. As a professional linguist I accord every version of English its own particular merits and my position here strictly concerns the way in which the IPA is interpreted and applied in the Wikipedia, and how the current policy may need to be changed through a truly representative consensus. If you would like to help resolve this issue, please see User talk:Kudpung#IPA, RP, etc. and User talk:Lfh#Warwickshire to get the background. Maybe you could then chime in with your views on the subject at Wikipedia talk:IPA for English#Rhoticity in place names. Thanks. --Kudpung (talk) 18:00, 12 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

I'll be honest and say I really don't have a clue about anything at all on that subject! It is probably best if I stay out of it, sorry! Jeni (talk) 00:46, 13 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Help - Stagecoach in Devon edit

I was wondering your view on the above article. Someone has moved it, without consensus, from Stagecoach in Devon to Stagecoach Southwest. With the following reason: "on there website, services come under Stagecoach southwest, the company name is stagecoach devon ltd". For a start, the website says "Stagecoach South West", not "Southwest". However, I remain doubtful that the buses themselves won't continue to trade as "Stagecoach in Devon". For example, Stagecoach South, which it states on the website, trades as three sub-divisions, Stagecoach in Hants & Surrey, Stagecoach in Hampshire, and Stagecoach in the South Downs (actually in the S.D.s trades as Stagecoach in Portsmouth too). No buses show Stagecoach South.

The Stagecoach site has been redone, and a flaw seems to be that it defaults aggressively to your default area, so you will need to select location as "Torquay" or something to see the Devon site. Anyway, about the article. Shall I move it to "Stagecoach South West" (correcting the words) and be done with it, or try and revert to "Stagecoach in Devon"? I'm not sure, as the names are very similar for the area covered. Arriva436talk/contribs 22:08, 17 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

I'd suggest reverting the move, with an edit summary along the lines of "please achieve adequate consensus before move". If it gets moved back again after that, let me know again and I'll get involved and see what I can find out. Sorry I won't do anything more at the moment, I'm feeling absolutely dead and am about to go to bed! Jeni (talk) 22:14, 17 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
Never mind, I've done a bit of research and moved it back myself, suggesting he starts a Requested Move discussion if he can provide solid evidence. Jeni (talk) 22:27, 17 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for doing that - I wanted a second opinion before I took any direct action! Arriva436talk/contribs 19:35, 18 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

unfree county emblems edit

Ron Saunders edit

I have restored the tag at the top of the article as there are no specific references. A generic catch-all reference at the foot of the article is not sufficient. Please don't remove it again until the problem has been addressed - ideally there should be at least one inline citation per paragraph and all statements of fact should be cited. Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 13:16, 28 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Then you are using the wrong template. {{no footnotes}} serves for that purpose. Jeni (talk) 13:24, 28 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
Ok that's fine. Cheers. Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 13:25, 28 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

ANI edit

Hi Jeni, I notice that you archived WP:AN/I#Jza84 using his admin powers to steamroll his personal point of view. Is everything OK now? Did this get resolved with the admin?

Just asking to find out if everything is OK. - Tbsdy (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 12:47, 29 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Heya, the attitude of this guy is still a bit iffy, but at least he self reverted eventually. The fact so much discussion has now been generated on the talk page just shows how controversial his actions were! Hopefully all will be well in the end, and if not then I'm sure he'll be bought up again! Thanks for dropping in :) Jeni (talk) 12:50, 29 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
No probs, just wanted to make sure everything is OK. You are a remarkably dedicated editor, btw. Great work! - Tbsdy (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 13:15, 29 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
Hello, I'm coming out of retirement on a one-off basis just to comment on this issue. Some time ago (check my Talk page) I had a similar altercation with Jza84 when he blatantly abused his admin powers to force his preferred versions on a series of articles and then locked them. I believe there had been similar situations previous to this but you'll need to check his Talk page archives and edit history to find them. As an editor and content provider Jza84 is an asset to Wikipedia; perhaps one of the greatest, but as an admin he's a disaster. He simply should not be an admin and it says a great deal for the selection procedure that someone like this should have gained adminship in the first place. I note he is open to recall according to his user page. However, his recall requirements are tough. Nevertheless, as a current and vigorous editor you might like to consider the situation and investigate how Jza84 could be de-sysoped. He has many supporters but unfortunately they view him primarily with his editing work in mind and turn a blind eye to his admin activities. As I say, we wouldn't want to lose him as an editor, but he works to the detriment of the encyclopedia as an admin. Blacklans (talk) 14:29, 30 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Infobox UK place tweaks edit

Hi Jeni, thanks for the feedback. I've already been marking as minor (most of) the changes that don't affect output at all (such as where an invalid parameter is simply deleted) but had been erring on the side of caution by marking other changes as non-minor, such as fixed parameter names or links, or routine added information. I was a bit wary of causing any protective editors to think that I was trying to change things without them noticing, but I'll be bolder for your benefit in future! For what it's worth, this is the article list I am currently working down: User:Richardguk/Infobox UK place articles to fix#Articles with invalid parameter names. Cheers. — Richardguk (talk) 22:15, 30 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
