Balanced Poverty level . (Not Mollies follies)

This activist wants the poverty level to reflect anyone who cannot afford rent, and, food at the same time. I am a Maine activist who believes we must end 100% of poverty, and that there are 80 additional million in poverty but not counted.Total 120 million people in poverty, or half of America. Our current conception of the U.S. federal poverty level measure was introduced to the American public in 1965. IT was a landmark study by Mollie Orshanky, an economist at the Social Security Administration. We have lived lifetimes with Mollies follies since then The Poverty level was suppose to be a criterion for identifying households in poverty, It is based upon the amount required for an adequate diet at minimum cost.

Orshansky presented the poverty thresholds as a measure of income inadequacy, not of income adequacy — I say its time to end 100% of poverty. It is time that not just the amount of lowest cost food, but all of Lives basics are taking into account. So the poverty level is raised to cover all of the following rent, food, transportation, health care, Utilities ect. Workers are the back bone of America. They should have enough for savings and a vacation.

In fact, Mollies Follies, boss Ida’s Merriam, wrote in 1967, that "It is easy to observe that poverty in the U.S. today cannot meaningfully be defined in the same way as in the U.S. of 1900....obviously today's [poverty] measure, even if corrected year by year for changes in the price level...should not be acceptable twenty, ten or perhaps even five years hence." http://aspe.hhs.gov/poverty/papers/relabs.htm But we have used flawed measurements, since 1965. It decades past time, to say poverty can be ended when we use the correct tools which is a “balanced income,” enough to cover modest expensive, instead of a minimum wage. In Maine minimum wages are higher than the Federal level.

It is $7.25 an hour, yet in 2007, a think tank in Maine, said the least required to pay all of lives basics are $17.16 an hour for 40 hours. Different states have different livable wages. Do you think any states livable wage is $9.50 an hour? Not with rents starting around $ 700 a month in Mississippi, there is no place with cheap rent.
