Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. Speedy deletion nomination of 2018 Judo Grand Slam edit

Hello, JanPleun,

Welcome to Wikipedia! I edit here too, under the username John B123, and I thank you for your contributions.

I wanted to let you know, however, that I have tagged 2018 Judo Grand Slam for deletion, because it doesn't appear to contain any encyclopedic content. You may find our guide for writing quality articles to be extremely informative. Also, you may want to consider working on future articles in draft space first, where they cannot be deleted for lacking content.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top. If the page is already deleted by the time you come across this message and you wish to retrieve the deleted material, please contact the deleting administrator.

For any further query, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|John B123}}. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ . Thanks!

2019 Judo Grand Slam Osaka moved to draftspace edit

An article you recently created, 2019 Judo Grand Slam Osaka, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Updating caps and stats edit

Hello, I'm Robby.is.on. Welcome to Wikipedia! I just wanted to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions were not quite right. When updating statistics within the infobox of a footballer, please make sure you update the timestamp at the same time, so that both readers and fellow editors know when the information was last updated.

You can do this by replacing the existing timestamp within the |club-update= or |pcupdate= parameter for club stats, or the |nationalteam-update= or |ntupdate= parameter for international stats. For articles that use a DMY date format, use five tildes (~~~~~), or for MDY dates, use {{subst:mdytime}}. This will generate the specific time the update was made.

If you have any questions about this, feel free to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you, Robby.is.on (talk) 14:25, 13 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Template:Infobox judoka edit

Hey friend,

Thank you for your work on articles relating to judo. It is much appreciated.

I've created Template:Infobox judoka. It is based on Template:Infobox sportsperson that we currently use, but has some tweaks that help editing and make it more suitable for judoka. You can see an example for its use on Gefen Primo's article.

Please tell me what do you think about this new template and if you have any suggestions for improving it. Deancarmeli (talk) 09:22, 27 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Goodmorning I think your article looks great but is a little bit too large regarding the persons we describe but that is my opnion
What do you mean? The only things automatically added are the external DB links and sports & occupation that we usually add anyway. Deancarmeli (talk) 10:15, 27 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
You can also see an example of usage in a "smaller" article: Gili Sharir. Deancarmeli (talk) 10:21, 27 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Good afternoon Dean, sorry for waiting on my reply I try my best in my spare to add the judoka who have won at least ywo IJF medals, I will try to use your template more often — Preceding unsigned comment added by JanPleun (talkcontribs)

@JanPleun: Your contribution is very much appreciated.
I have to say, the template is not mine, I Have no ownership of it :)
The Question in #WikiProject Judo still stands. I'd love to have you joining me in establishing a Wikiproject dedicated to judo. It isn't binding and comes with no obligations and I think it will help us make to judo space on Wikipedia better. Deancarmeli (talk) 14:07, 3 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

WikiProject Judo edit

Hey friend,

I was thinking of starting a Wikipedia:WikiProject Judo under Wikipedia:WikiProject Martial arts where we could, along with others, discuss and formulate Manuals of Style for articles relating to judo. For example, MoS' for judoka, judo competitions etc. We could also plan joint efforts to build new articles together. You can see more about Wikiprojects at Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Guide.

Appreciating your contribution, Deancarmeli (talk) 14:23, 1 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Medals edit

Hey, when a athletes/rider has already won a medal at a specific edition there is no need to link to it again like you did here. Kante4 (talk) 12:16, 3 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hey @Kante4: Sorry for barging in, I was watching this page waiting for an answer from JanPleum.
Per MOS:REPEATLINK: "Generally, a link should appear only once in an article but may be repeated, if helpful for readers, in infoboxes, tables, image captions, footnotes, hatnotes, and at the first occurrence after the lead.". So, it seems that JanPleum was complying with MOS:LINK with this edit. Deancarmeli (talk) 13:16, 3 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Deancarmeli: No problem for coming in. But if the link is already once in the infobox, it does not need to be repeated (that's what it was about). That's common usage around here as far as i can tell (and see/saw). And the link you referenced does not say that a link should be repeated in the infobox if it's already once in there, that's WP:OVERLINK as we don't need three or four links to the 2021 WC right underneath. Kante4 (talk) 13:21, 3 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Kante4: Actually, it isn't WP:OVERLINK. Per the topic related WP:PERPOLICY, when stating a policy one should cite the exact words it states that supports its relevance to the discussion. As WP:PERPOLICY examples for a deletion discussion: "Per ThisPolicy, which states in these exact words that an article like this is perfectly acceptable.". WP:JUSTAPOLICY says to avoid arguments "Just pointing at a policy or guideline".

If you'll look at the subsection right below WP:OVERLINK, which is the aforementioned MOS:REPEATLINK, you'll see it stating the "Generally, a link should appear only once in an article but may be repeated, if helpful for readers, in infoboxes, tables...", Making JanPleum's edits perfectly fine, as the repeated links do make page access easier, at least as I see it. Deancarmeli (talk) 13:59, 3 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Deancarmeli: Easier, yes but completely not needed as the same link is just one line above. Looking at Usain Bolt, Michael Phelps, Federica Pellegrini, Maurice Greene (sprinter) (were the first four i thought of when thinking about athletes with multiple medals at one event) it seems to be common to unlink the second instance in the infobox. Kante4 (talk) 14:15, 3 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Kante4: Per WP:IDONTLIKEIT, "not needed" is an example for an argument to avoid. The part about other pages touches WP:WHATABOUT: "The nature of Wikipedia means that you cannot make a convincing argument based solely on whether other articles do or do not exist...". Deancarmeli (talk) 14:30, 3 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Deancarmeli: And you think it looks "better". Also, per Template:Medal templates documentation#Examples which does not have it linked several times (especially the third collapsible one with Allison Schmitt). Kante4 (talk) 14:35, 3 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Thank you guys for your comments .. I thought this looks better that you have a direct connetction on each medal. — Preceding unsigned comment added by JanPleun (talkcontribs)

I stand with you on that. It looks better to me too. Deancarmeli (talk) 14:08, 3 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Template:Infobox judo competition event edit

Hey again.

I've created Template:Infobox judo competition event to be used instead of Template:Infobox sports competition event in judo tournament articles. It is much the same as the previous template, bu offers some judo related adjustments:

  1. venue, competitors, nations, prev, next & location are automatically imported from WikiData if left empty.
  2. Links are automatically provided, via WD, to IJF, EJU & JudoInside competition pages, and can be inserted manually as well.
  3. Added supprot of more "games" types, such as European, Asian, African and Mediterranean Games. The games headers now also get a link to the "Judo at the..." page, when used for a specific event.
  4. Added option to show mixed team event champions, as well as a number of titles ordinal for men, women & mixed.

And there is more. I'd love to read you opinion of this template, and especially ideas for its improvement. You can see a usage example in the 2022 Judo Grand Slam Paris article. Deancarmeli (talk) 13:53, 23 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
