Shared account?

edit

You appear to be sharing your account with others, please note that user accounts are for single editor usage only, you should all register your own accounts.Theroadislong (talk) 16:05, 24 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

I'm just one student editing from another student's research. Is my bio misleading? IndianaWomen'sHistory (talk) 16:13, 24 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

You say "We are kicking off the Wikipedia edits in March of 2015" ? Theroadislong (talk) 16:18, 24 March 2015 (UTC)Reply
  • Also saying "Our goal is to..." This implies this account is being shared by multiple people. --Hammersoft (talk) 16:22, 24 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

I'm a student intern - when I am gone someone else will continue doing women's history edits for this internship/project. So there's 1 user (me) right now, but another intern will take over the account sometime in the future. Does that make sense? IndianaWomen'sHistory (talk) 16:26, 24 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

I revised the bio to make it clearer that it's just me. Thanks for your feedback Theroadislong and Hammersoft! IndianaWomen'sHistory (talk) 16:32, 24 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

  • With respect, this arrangement is not acceptable. Per our policy on this issue, we do not allow accounts to have passwords that are shared with others. I am going to request this account be blocked. Please do not take this harshly; it is no reflection on your edits. I encourage you to create an account that represents you and only you in perpetuity. It does not (nor really should it be, if you value privacy) need to be your name, or any permutation of it. A pseudonym is perfectly acceptable. The key issue is the account you choose to open will be yours and only yours. Regardless of the account you create, it is imperative that you understand our guideline regarding paid editing. While as an intern, you might not technically be 'paid' to edit (depending on the circumstances of your position), the guideline applies. If you have questions, please ask and we will be happy to help. The work you are doing is potentially useful, though there are questions regarding the notability of some of the biographical articles you have created. That is an issue for a different fora. Thanks, --Hammersoft (talk) 16:41, 24 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hammersoft - Could I keep my account if the next intern creates his or her own? I'd like to keep the work I did today as it is part of my internship. IndianaWomen'sHistory (talk) 16:44, 24 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

  • You could, but I would strongly recommend you request a username change. It's not absolutely necessary, but it reduces the appearance of shared use. To do so, follow the instructions at Wikipedia:Changing username/Simple. --Hammersoft (talk) 16:47, 24 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Ok. So I can request a username change but keep all of the edits I've done so far? I changed the profile too, so it is clearer that I'm just one student working on the project. Thanks for all of your help, I'm new to this! IndianaWomen'sHistory

  • Being new isn't a crime :) We're trying to help you. Yes, all of your edits to date would be attributed to the username you chose. Also, please respond in the "source of material" section below. Thanks, --Hammersoft (talk) 16:52, 24 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Contested deletion

edit

This page is not unambiguously promotional, because... (your reason here) --IndianaWomen'sHistory (talk) 16:28, 24 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

It is part of a public history project with former and current IUPUI public history students. For Women's History Month, I am adding some past Women's History research to different pages of historic Indiana Women. The program encourages work in the digital humanities, and I think Wikipedia is a great digital project that utilizes crowdsourcing.

Just so you know, you should never remove speedy deletion tags from your own userpage (or any pages that you create), even if you disagree with them being on there (see WP:CSD). If you remove speedy deletion tags, another will put them back on again. In this case, I think they shouldn't have been on there, as your page wasn't overly promotional (it was a basic summary saying "I'm going to write some articles about women in Indiana), so I'm not going to put them back on (technically I should put them back on, and them remove them immediately, but that seems pointless). Happy editing. Joseph2302 (talk) 16:45, 24 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Thank you Joseph2302 for explaining that. I guess I misread the box - I thought it said to write your explanation of why you're contesting the speedy deletion and then you can delete the message. This is all new to me but I will keep that in mind next time I'm doing a project! Thanks again! IndianaWomen'sHistory (talk) 17:34, 24 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Source of material

edit

I hate to do this, but there's an issue with your editing. In a section above here, you note "editing from another student's research". This greatly concerns me, especially given the rapidity with which you have been creating "new" content. Where are you getting this content from? --Hammersoft (talk) 16:51, 24 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hammersoft - The former student intern researched everything and compiled it in what basically look like stubs with the references but in one large Word Doc. I was supposed to move the individual narratives and references into the actual Wikipedia page. If you look at the references, they come from a lot of high-quality secondary sources based in Indianapolis. I hope that makes sense. Thanks! IndianaWomen'sHistory (talk) 17:14, 24 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

  • We have a problem then. There is an apparent copyright violation. This work was done by another individual and you do not personally have rights to the work. The prior intern's work was contracted by the organization for which you are interning? If so, it is likely the organization has rights. We would need to have a specific release regarding these works from them. You should read Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. I'm sorry this is all getting so complex. --Hammersoft (talk) 17:24, 24 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hammersoft - My intern supervisor has pulled the project from Wikipedia and it will live somewhere else online. Thanks for all of your help though, I will keep this in mind if I ever use Wikipedia again in the future! IndianaWomen'sHistory (talk) 17:32, 24 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Alpha Latreian Club

edit

The article Alpha Latreian Club has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Doesn't meet WP:ORG or WP:GNG

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist.
