Rivercess County

edit

I see you updated the spelling, do you have a source? The two sources in the article list it as two words, and both are published by the government. I know finding sources for Liberia can be tough, but I haven't seen anything official with it as one word. Aboutmovies (talk) 07:52, 7 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

My mistake. I was going to cite my source after changing all of the links on other pages, but it slipped my mind. The source has been added on the Rivercess County page. The government's been pretty inconsistent on the spelling of the county, but I found a link to the law creating the county which has it spelled as one word, so I figured that was authoritative enough. Cheers! Idaltu (talk) 08:09, 7 February 2012 (UTC)Reply
Great, thanks. Now hopefully the government will get it right. Aboutmovies (talk) 06:47, 8 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Defaultsort

edit

Hi, I noticed that in some of the biography pages that you created, you left the "defaultsort" and sometimes the "persondata" filled in with the name from another page that you were partly copying. The "defaultsort" parameter is used to sort the page into alphabetical order on category pages, e.g. Category:Vice-Presidents of Liberia. I fixed Alex J. Tyler, Anthony D. Williams (politician), James Skivring Smith, Jr., Joseph D. Summerville and John Day (judge). Please check if there are any others where you might have overlooked the same thing. Keep up the good work! – Fayenatic London 12:59, 5 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

US$

edit

A couple of times at Ford Motor Company you have changed {{USD|134.3 billion}} to [[United States dollar|US$]] 134.3 billion . Since they look nearly identical and both can have the link turned on or off, I'm at a bit of a loss why you spent the time to change it. Is there something wrong with {{USD}}?  Stepho  talk  06:10, 15 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

To my knowledge, when a letter is used with the dollar sign to signify which type of dollar is being referred to (US$ or C$), there is supposed to be a space between the symbol and the number. Don't know if that's a hard rule or just common to improve legibility; it's just how I've always seen it done, but I could be completely wrong. The template used doesn't allow for a space (or at least, I don't know how to use the template with a space). No harm intended. Idaltu (talk) 23:39, 15 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
At WP:CURRENCY it says that when the currency sign is alphabetic then there should be a space. Note that this only applies to the sign itself, so $ is non-alphabetic, US$ is also non-alphabetic (the sign is still $) but USD is alphabetic. The {{USD}} and {{US$}} templates both produce 'US$' without a space, which is correct. Unfortunately, Wikipedia policy is not policed very well, so many articles may be doing it the wrong way. This is one of the reasons I have been championing templates such as {{USD}}, {{US$}} and {{currency}} - they always follow policy. Even better, if the policy is changed then a few simple changes in the templates means that the change is automatically propagated to all articles using those templates.
However, if you feel that the template has been implemented wrong, then it is better to raise the point on the template talk page. If it was wrong in one article then it is probably wrong in many other articles and it is better to fix it at the source of the error. Merely replacing it in a single article means that the people maintaining the template may not know about the error and will continue in the wrong way for considerable time. Or possibly they might be able to convince that they were right. Either way, discussing it on the talk page will improve things.  Stepho  talk  02:43, 16 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Replaceable fair use File:Coat of Arms of Grenada.png

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Coat of Arms of Grenada.png. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 21:14, 13 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
