As I see you are interested in editing palaeontological articles, feel free to join us at Wikipedia:WikiProject Palaeontology. I noted that you criticised the accuracy of some paleoart, there is a discussion section dedicated to this, see Wikipedia:WikiProject_Palaeontology/Paleoart_review where we review Paleoart for accuracy, your contributions would be appreciated. I hadn’t realised this is what Wikipedia is like behind the scenes! All very exciting, I often research the Pleistocene and it’s islandlife so I may make some contributions to some of the more obscure Pleistocene fauna. IceAge729 (talk) 16:22, 22 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Accurate edit summaries

edit

IceAge729, please do not use inaccurate edit summaries like "Fixed some minor grammatical errors" (in Elephant bird) when you obviously were trying to change the meaning of a sentence. Thanks, WolfmanSF (talk) 22:46, 22 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

What do you mean? It WAS a grammatical error.

‘But recent work by Hansford & Turvey 2018 has reduced these numbers to just four species of elephant birds althogether‘ althogether is spelt wrong (altogether is the correct spelling). And you cant reduce something to a higher number. I changed nothing about the meaning of the sentence. It’s the same fact just with correct grammar. IceAge729 (talk) 16:06, 23 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Spelling is not grammar (which deals with rules for ordering and associating words), and the difference between "increase" and "decrease" is also not grammar, it is a matter of meaning. Elephant birds include all members of the genera Aepyornis, Mullerornis and Vorombe. The previous total was about eight species: A. hildebrandti, A. gracilis, A. medius, A. maximus, M. betsilei, M. agilisi, M. rudis, V. titan (we have 9 in our 14 June 2020‎ article version). Now, based on Hansford & Turvey 2018, we list just 4 (see edit of 19 June 2020): A. hildebrandti, A. maximus, M. modestus, V. titan. Changing from 8 species to 4 is a reduction. WolfmanSF (talk) 18:40, 23 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

This doesn’t invalidate my corrections. IceAge729 (talk) 19:14, 23 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

also, an ‘s’ isn’t needed when you say elephant birds. IceAge729 (talk) 19:17, 23 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Being accused of trying to change the meaning of a sentence is also pretty strange since all I did was change the incorrect wording, it’s nothing to be embarrassed about and happens to the best of us. 🧐 IceAge729 (talk) 19:18, 23 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

I'd avoid getting fixated on this word change, if I were you, it is obviously going nowhere fast.Hemiauchenia (talk) 21:14, 23 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

These are valid corrections. I get that it’s your baby and you don’t like it being changed or whatever but there is nothing to be embarrassed about. 👍 IceAge729 (talk) 02:33, 24 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

The validity of your corrections corrodes somewhat when you fail to realize that one sentence is talking about the number of species in a genus, and the other sentence, which you're amending, is talking about the number of species in the family, and that you're amending them under the mistaken assumption that both sentences are talking about the same group of species even though it's been pointed out that they are not.--Mr Fink (talk) 03:22, 24 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

It went from three to four though? I feel you should clarify on the page. IceAge729 (talk) 14:54, 24 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

The 3 species are for Mullerornis, the revised 4 are for all species of elephant bird. Is English not your native language? I could understand why the wording would be confusing for a non-native speaker. Hemiauchenia (talk) 20:44, 24 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Ohhh I understand now. IceAge729 (talk) 15:00, 25 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Huilabradys moved to draftspace

edit

An article you recently created, Huilabradys, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Yeah idk how to make a page but then it let me make if for this thing it’s meant to be for another animal that was from Columbia. IceAge729 (talk) 00:25, 17 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

Huliabradys is a Miocene aged ground sloth, are you sure you aren't getting it confused with Notiomastodon?

Hi IceAge729! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor at Cave bear that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a very specific definition on Wikipedia – it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Please see Help:Minor edit for more information. Changing an image is not a minor edit. Furthermore more, the image (which you uploaded) is a copyright violation. The source website https://siberiantimes.com/copyright/ states its copyright as "The Siberian Times, all rights reserved. " We cannot host that image unless we are granted permission. Meters (talk) 00:32, 13 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
