Wikipedia is not for writing about yourself

Welcome to Wikipedia, but it is not a place like Facebook or LinkedIn for people to write about themselves. It is a quite different sort of site, a project to build an encyclopedia, so it is selective about subjects for articles, and writing about oneself is strongly discouraged, for reasons explained at Wikipedia is not about YOU and Wikipedia:Autobiography.

Wikipedia user pages are not like those at social-networking sites. Their use is explained at WP:NOTWEBHOST:

"Wikipedians have their own user pages, but they should be used primarily to present information relevant to working on the encyclopedia. Limited biographical information is allowed, but user pages should not function as personal webpages or be repositories for large amounts of material that is irrelevant to collaborating on Wikipedia. If you are looking to make a personal webpage or blog or to post your résumé, please make use of one of the many free providers on the Internet or any hosting included with your Internet account."

New Articles

If you wish to write new articles at Wikipedia you are welcome to do so provided it meets Wikipedia's notability guidelines. See this page for a guide to write your first article. More detailed advice - a lot to read, but it may save you time. The first thing to understand, which we do not do enough to explain to new users, is that Wikipedia is not for any kind of advertising or promotion. It is not even a place for people or companies to "tell the world" about themselves. There are sites like Facebook for that, but an encyclopedia is different. If you are connected with the "brand" you want to write about, you have from Wikipedia's point of view a Wikipedia:Conflict of interest, and you should read that page and the Wikipedia:Plain and simple conflict of interest guide. In summary, you should not post directly about the brand, but may submit a draft article for review by uninvolved users. Also, if you are employed by the brand or paid by them, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's Terms of Use ("Paid contributions without disclosure" under section 4) to disclose your interest - see Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Wikipedia has a test for inclusion called Wikipedia:Notability, which is not a matter of opinion but has to be demonstrated by references showing "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." Significant means more than just listing-type mentions; reliable excludes Youtube, Facebook, blogs, places where anyone can post anything; independent excludes the subject's own website, affiliated ones and anything based on press releases. The test is, have people not connected with the subject thought it significant enough to write substantial comment about? See also Wikipedia:Notability (summary).

That is quite a demanding test, and many worthy people and organizations cannot pass it. That is not at all to their discredit, but it means they are not suitable subjects for a global encyclopedia.

Independent sources are necessary, not only to establish notability, but also to enable an article to be written which is an outside, impartial view of the subject, not simply the story it wishes to tell the world.

If you want to proceed, first collect your sources, then read WP:Your first article, then use WP:Articles for creation to make a draft. When you write, take care to keep a neutral point of view - anything that tries to "sell" its subject, or has text like "An impressive and dynamic vocalist, who captivates his listeners... an image of grace and talent... ", will be rejected. Read WP:PEACOCK. Don't write about the subject's aims, passion for this or that, intentions for the future - just plain facts about what it has actually achieved, cited to reliable sources.
