They ask for a pithy "hook" and what I came up with is profoundly unpithy - perhaps you can do better. Feel free to propose an alternative, or replace mine altogether. RE:Joe McCarthy

Thanks for contacting me about the matter. The thing is, with words like those, even consensus can't justify using them. They project a blatant bias about a relatively recent series of events, so even if there is a consensus they violate the NPOV policy. If I am reverted I'll take this through due wiki process. While we can see McCarthy was one of the darkest politicians in US history, this is an unbiased encyclopedia, so what our eyes see doesn't matter. Once again, thank you for contacting me about this. Hi again. You've done miracles for this article, but I was wondering why you changed all the ref formats to vertical, making it harder to read (at least for me) and unnecessarily drawing out the KB count? Happyme22 (talk) 04:25, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

Dear Happyme, as I explained at Talk:Dick Cheney, the vertical format makes the references easier to check—there were many problems that I have found in changing them. That's great! I'm very pleased that Dick Cheney's article has become GA. As I've said before, I started the long process but it couldn't have been finished without your commitment and willingness to take on a big project. The credit goes to both of us, so congrats! I'm trying to stay away from the article's recent discussion about inclusion issues because I really don't want to get into any arguments, but I will continue to watchlist the page and monitor what goes on. Hi, Hopson:

The importance rankings, unlike the quality rankings (stub / start / B / GA, etc.) aren't at all a reflection of the article's content. It's just a ranking of the article's priority within a given WikiProject. For that reason, an article that's "low" or "no" importance in one project might be "top" priority in another. For instance, Derek Jeter might be centrally important to WikiProject New York Yankees, but only tangentially important within the broader context of WikiProject United States. You can read more about rankings at Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/Release Version Criteria#Importance of topic.

For WikiProject Dartmouth College, which is what I reassessed it for, I was implementing a new ranking system that put faculty of Dartmouth in the "low" rather than "mid" category, as discussed on the Project's talk page. Since the rankings are really the prerogative of the WikiProject -- that is, they're used in the context of each project and based on each project's criteria -- I hope you and €pa don't mind if I undo the reversion of that reassessment edit. Dick Cheney article

Hi, Ivan Kinsman here. I wanted to talk to you about this article as you seem to have a pretty level-headed approach to it. I find I cannot talk to that guy anastrophe in a reasonable manner!

I wanted to know if I can get the environment section I have written on the discussion page inserted into the article. I have spent some time on writing this, collating the information etc. so wanted to get your opinion on the matter and to ask about what steps I should take to proceed this, given that the article is locked.

E-M-F Company

Hi. You changed the birthplace of Flanders to Waterbury, Vermont, citing a downloadable reference. When I tried to consult this, I found a choice of three possible volumes to unzip and search (Vols 2, 3 and 4). I laboriously did this and was unable to find any citation for your edit. There was a mention that some of the Flanders family had lived in Waterbury, Connecticut. In short, your citation turned out not to provide any verification. The relevant intro page also said that the book would not be published owing to the death of an author in 2007. I'm sorry for the inconvenience, Bjenks. You're right, it's an inadequate reference. If you open Volume III on the website and search the following, you'll find the quotation: 6679. m i. Walter E. FLANDERS , born 4 Mar 1871 in Waterbury, VT Title: (M:6). Resided in Detroit, MI in 1910 (K:23). Title: (K:23; M:6). Since the material is both in WordPerfect and RTF (which I opened), it's difficult to cite a page. After you've augmented the reference at E-M-F Company, I'll augment it at Walter Flanders. Getting back after a busy week!

Hey HopsonRoad, thanks for your recent best wishes! Sorry it took me all week to get back. Been busy as hell non-WP-wise, and each night I goof around on WP long enough to skim my watchlist and do some trivial bit of content dev that springs to mind, but then it's suddenly way past bedtime. (I remember when staying up too late was easy and I wouldn't even feel it the next day, but that trait seems to be fading nowadays!) I definitely want to get to the museum sometime, although I doubt it's in the cards for this year's budget, in terms of both money and vacation time. I've been allotting time to WP that really I need to transfer to other tasks; but hard to help it, since it's just so much fun, compared to eating my vegetables and so forth. Sorry that my level of metapedianism is maxed out for now; but hopefully at some point in the future I'll be able to expand it a bit. One source introduces the topic as, "Surface Heat Budget of the Arctic Ocean (SHEBA)," the other as, "SHEBA: The Surface Heat Budget of the Arctic Ocean." Both articles talk exclusively about SHEBA, thereafter. The question is what title would be the most likely to explain the topic, as well as be widely recognized by someone seeking information. Just "SHEBA" appears to require a lot of disambiguation. My preferred alternate to the original title might have been, "SHEBA (Surface Heat Budget of the Arctic Ocean) project." Hi, do you have taken File:Freya von Moltke.jpg by yourself or is it scan from a picture taken by another person? I think in the latter case it cannot stay on Commons without written permission by the photographer. Maybe here on en.wp as Fair Use. Raymond (talk) 13:46, 29 March 2012 (UTC)

Hi Raymond, I realized that Fair Use won't solve the Wikimedia world-wide use of the image problem. Therefore, I have contacted von Moltke's surviving son asking for an image that could be used under the "four freedoms" of Wikimedia. He's in Europe, so I'm not sure how quickly he can respond. Hi HopsonRoad, yes, that's why I don't like Fair Use. And now to tell you the full story why I stumbled about your scan: Last week a new plaque was uncovered on Freya von Moltke's 101st birthday in Cologne. I have taken some pictures (a quick selection only, they need optimizations before upload to Commons). The man on the 3rd and 4th image, in a beige cloak behind the microphone, is the surviving son. Sadly I have not had a chance to get in contact with him on this day. Hopefully you have luck that he will give permission for an image of Freya von Molke. Feel free to give him my rreal name and e-mail address (see my userpage on de.wiki) if he would be more comfortable to speak with a local Wikipedian. I would be glad if I could help.
