Thankless tasks

https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Category:WikiProject_Death&diff=prev&oldid=679165008 so youre trying to re-aligning a whole lot of wikiprojects, and where they 'sit' in relation to project space - but what is the determining point of reference? I for one find 'death' project was situated better at the earlier configuration, but you may well have a good explanation. Some of your changes are thankless tasks when trying to wander through the muddy swamp, and I dont ask the question without some trepidation, so few actually ever venture into this territory... JarrahTree 23:04, 2 September 2015 (UTC)

Hello, JarrahTree. For years we had Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Directory plus a separate category tree for WikiProjects that was significantly different from the directory. Now we have the auto-updating directory, and I would like it to one day replace the Council directory altogether. As part of that, I am trying to align the category tree to be more like the Council directory, including creating more sub-categories so that some subdirectories such as Wikipedia:WikiProject Directory/Art and culture WikiProjects are easier to navigate. Because some WikiProjects are highly multidisciplinary in nature (the Death project is one of them), it can be hard to put projects into specific enough buckets. If there is any change to the directory structure you recommend, I'd be willing to consider it. Harej (talk) 23:29, 2 September 2015 (UTC)
sheesh noticing your dog on your id bit reminds me i need to get my mutt up there in cyberspace as well.... as I thought you have a thankless task, and yes I understand from your explanatioin what is happening, as for buckets, project space on talk pages needs a massive review as well, so many aspiring million edit eds never in their editing history add a single project tag, and others who seem to not understand what they are about mess the talk page space as well, all making a vast area of dealing with project assessment something an average ed has not the slightest interest or understanding, unfortunately... Category question

I saw this edit: [1]. I probably just don't understand something about that category, but I wonder why you removed it from that project. --Tryptofish (talk) 23:09, 15 September 2015 (UTC)

Tryptofish, since WikiProject Neuroscience has its own Category:WikiProject Neuroscience, it makes more sense to have the "meta" categories (such as Category:Science WikiProjects) there. Harej (talk) 23:10, 15 September 2015 (UTC)
Note however I sorted it into the more specific Category:Biology WikiProjects. Harej (talk) 23:10, 15 September 2015 (UTC)
That all makes sense. Thanks for explaining it to me. --Tryptofish (talk) 23:11, 15 September 2015 (UTC)

suppose

that the last 2 eds by me - could as easily be 'wikiproject wikipedia' as it could be 'wikiproject geography'... if you get my gist... JarrahTree 23:45, 15 September 2015 (UTC)

Looks fine to me. Harej (talk) 23:48, 15 September 2015 (UTC)

Grants:IEG/Wikipedia likes Galactic Exploration for Posterity 2015

Dear Fellow Wikipedians,

I JethroBT (WMF) suggested that I consult with fellow Wikipedians to get feedback and help to improve my idea about "As an unparalleled way to raise awareness of the Wikimedia projects, I propose to create a tremendous media opportunity presented by launching Wikipedia via space travel."

Please see the idea at meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:IEG/Wikipedia_likes_Galactic_Exploration_for_Posterity_2015. Please post your suggestions on the talk page and please feel free to edit the idea and join the project.

Thank you for your time and attention in this matter. I appreciate it.

Women in Red - metrics

Hi Harej. We've been trying to ping you on this. The Metrics icon no longer works and we have also added a DYK section. If we are going to maintain the icons, maybe we should have one for "New articles" and another for "DYK successes". But if you could reactivate the Metrics icon, that would help us along for now.--Ipigott (talk) 10:25, 15 October 2015 (UTC)
