Your GA nomination of Star Trek: First Contact

The article Star Trek: First Contact you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold.  It hasn't failed because it's basically a good article, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needed to be addressed. If these are fixed within seven days, the article will pass, otherwise it will fail. See Talk:Star Trek: First Contact for things needed to be addressed.--Finalnight (talk) 03:09, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

Imperial triple crown jewels

Your majesty, it gives me great pleasure to bestow these Imperial triple crown jewels upon Gran2 for your contributions in the areas of WP:DYK, WP:GA, and WP:FA. Cirt (talk) 23:47, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for contributions to the project, Great work, especially on Stewart White (journalist) - obviously your work on articles related to The Simpsons is most impressive, but I was pleased to see such a well-sourced WP:DYK about this notable journalist. May you wear the crowns well. Cirt (talk) 23:47, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

Burns

Okay, I guess we could leave it for now (I actually think I have heard somewhere else that his voice is based on Barrymore), but an interview source would be nice. And could you pop onto IRC for a moment? Thanks, Scorpion0422 20:01, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

Re: Indy

Thanks, all these stories about secrecy in films is hilarious. Is it a coincidence the most secretive films (Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Star Trek, Transformers 2, G.I. Joe) are produced by Paramount? Good luck with your GCSEs by the way. Alientraveller (talk) 09:37, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

There's no mention of the accident that killed Vic Morrow as well child actors Myca Dinh Le and Renee Shin-Yi Chen during shooting of Twilight Zone: The Movie, nor Marilyn Monroe, who died before completion of Something's Got to Give.
These will depend on how notable you deem them; in 1920, when Kemuela C. Searle was gored by an elephant during shooting of Son Of Tarzan, and Ormer Locklear crashed his plane filming The Skywayman as the crew forgot to operate hazard lights. A stuntman also died filming the 1925 Ben-Hur chariot race.
What about filmmakers by the way? Walt Disney died during production of The Jungle Book and The Aristocats. Alientraveller (talk) 09:49, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
Twilight resulted in a pretty big courtcase which stained John Landis' career and left Steven Spielberg ashamed. Would you allow a discussion of the scandal or just a note of the film getting released?
And no, there's not enough info for an Indiana Jones cast list. Each character is very much defined by their portrayer, and the character's own article notes who played him throughout the TV show. Alientraveller (talk) 15:52, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

Images

I've uploaded them into commons (but please don't use them or crop them until they are approved). Can you please check them and make sure I uploaded them right? [1] Thanks, Scorpion0422 15:16, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

Not much. One of Oakley's images has been listed for deletion, Some Enchanted Evening failed its FAC and some guy thinks Troy McClure should be delisted due to lack of quotes. -- Scorpion0422 14:24, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
Yay, you're right. We could both do it if you like. You can do Simpsons writers2.jpg, I'll do the other ones. -- Scorpion0422 19:17, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
It also wouldn't hurt to get the images of Conan as well. -- Scorpion0422 19:26, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
Okay, I uploaded cropped versions of Martin, Conan, Bill and Josh and all four are now on wikipedia. I decided not to bother with the image of Reiss since we already have one of him. -- Scorpion0422 19:59, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, it is. Just select "It is from another Wikimedia project", it takes you directly to a basic upload form. As for Conan, I guess its not necessary since we have the other one. As for new images of Bill and Josh, I'll ask him again once he responds to the questions. I already asked him in one e-mail, but he didn't respond. -- Scorpion0422 20:06, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

Just saying thanks for the inspiration with your free-use The Simpsons images page. It gave me the idea of making a free-use image page of notable 2008 deaths. --RandomOrca2 (talk) 02:56, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

Trash of the Titans

Hi, there's been a recent controversy in Britain over the episode because one of the U2 members says "wankers" twice. Here's one source: [2] and there are several more on Google News. -- Scorpion0422 01:23, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

Oh great, it looks like a user may now try to create a list of Bart's pranks and a list of Troy McClure films. [3] He may just be saying that, but I will be going away on June 28 so please keep an eye out for such articles. -- Scorpion0422 01:01, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
Some good news, a copyeditor (Risker) has agreed to take a look at The Principal and the Pauper, Sideshow Bob and Krusty the Clown at some point in the not to distant future (possibly this weekend). I'll likely be away when she does, so could you please keep an eye on the article talk pages in case she has any questions, comments, or things that need clearing up? Thanks, Scorpion0422 17:44, 23 June 2008 (UTC)

I've also started doing some work on The Itchy & Scratchy & Poochie Show, which is the closest to FA of any season 8 article (don't forget, we need 2 more to save our FT). I did some looking through Planet Simpson, and I think there may be enough in there for an analysis section, but we should also try and include some stuff from other Simpsons books. I'll ask Maitch if there is anything in Leaving Springfield. -- Scorpion0422 02:45, 24 June 2008 (UTC)

It recently happened with an image from Homer's Enemy. You'd think that people would have bigger fish to fry, rather than picking off random Simpsons episode images. The way things are going, they'll probably eventually limit us to one non-free image per page and within the next few years fair use images will be completely banned. Anyway, the page is looking much better now, ask some of the regulars to take a look at it, and I'll see if Risker can put it on her copyedit list. -- Scorpion0422 21:01, 24 June 2008 (UTC)

Just a note about references: the publisher field refers to an overall publisher, like News Corp., or Time Warner, not a newspaper or magazine or website. That field should is called Work. Also, dates, like accessdates, don't need linking anymore. That redundancy has been fixed. I guess we should find time to change that for all our FAs/GAs for the next few years, lol! The Cartridge Family

Hello, sorry about me keep putting the section of The Simpsons episode The Cartridge Family about Channel 4 not airing the episode, as I watched the episode today on T4, because I thought Channel 4 didn't air the episode as it was skipped the last time it was supposed to be on, but it was showed today, anyway I found some censorship in the episode that I was hoping to add about it on the article, but I have no sources about it, but I know what the scenes are that are censored-SCB '92 (talk) 20:58, 27 July 2008 (UTC)

Well the censors in the episode, anyway, were when one of the hookers asks Bart if he wants a good time, and at the end of the episode when Marge is about to throw the gun in the bin, she looks at her reflection, toys wih the gun and puts it into her purse-SCB '92 (talk) 14:12, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

Aired?

I think you can be a little more polite than that in your edit summary, no? Now, why would readers assume that number is the number of aired episodes? I don't care what the number is, so long as it isn't ambiguous. Ben (talk) 15:39, 23 August 2008 (UTC)

It is not speculation if an official source states as much. Also, existence != aired. For example, obviously some of the episodes from season 20 already exist, even though they haven't been aired. Another problem with waiting for things to be aired before you update the counter is, what possible source are you using to say 'x' episodes have been aired? I can't image one exists. And what if there is a leak and some episodes are 'shown' before they're 'aired'? What then? What if country x airs before country y? Like I said, I don't have a problem with what number is shown, but there is no indication that the number given is "number of aired episodes in country y on network z". I think it's easier to use official sources that say there exist 20 seasons, each comprising 'blah' episodes. Ben (talk) 16:03, 23 August 2008 (UTC)

Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice

Hi,

As a regularly contributing UK Wikipedian, we were wondering if you wanted to contribute to the Oxford bid to host the 2010 Wikimania conference. Please see here for details of how to get involved, we need all the help we can get if we are to put in a compelling bid.

We are also in the process of forming a new UK Wikimedia chapter to replace the soon to be folded old one. If you are interested in helping shape our plans, showing your support or becoming a future member or board member, please head over to the Wikimedia UK v2.0 page and let us know. We plan on holding an election in the next month to find the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board who after obtaining charitable status will start the fund raising, promotion and active support for the UK Wikimedian community for which the chapter is being founded.

You may also wish to attend the next London meet-up at which both of these issues will be discussed. If you can't attend this meetup, you may want to watch Wikipedia:Meetup, for updates on future meets.

We look forward to hearing from you soon, and we send our apologies for this automated intrusion onto your talk page!

Sex, Pies and Idiot Scrapes

Rather predictably, the episode has stirred up a little controversy over the IRA line. However, I'm not sure how we report it. For the Peron line from the Wiggum episode, only a single politician was overly vocal about it, but it was reported by many different sources. In this case, a single politician (who has a wikipage) is complaining, but only a single source has reported it [7] and according to its wikipage, it's a tabloid. A couple reports have called it "controversial", but haven't really expanded past that. So should we use the tabloid, or wait and hope a more reliable source reports it? -- Scorpion0422 18:27, 20 October 2008 (UTC)

[8] :D -- Scorpion0422 17:49, 23 October 2008 (UTC)

I predicted this would happen. So should we fight this or just let the babies have their bottle? Arguing with this anti-image crusaders is like banging your head on the wall - it's loud, pointless and nothing gets accomplished. And this particular crusader is very stubborn, he would probably nominate the page for FLR. -- Scorpion0422 23:20, 24 October 2008 (UTC)

You know, I don't think I'd dislike those image guys as much if they weren't such jerks. Anyway, Phil Hartman's article is shaping up very nicely. I've also begun expanding Bart and Lisa's article and with luck they'll be GA ready by December. I've started listening to the animated commentaries, which is a gold mine for design information. We now have a very nice image that shows how the animators draw Lisa's hair. -- Scorpion0422 00:05, 25 October 2008 (UTC)

I've continued reading Nancy Cartwright's book and it turns out that she has a few small chapters devoted to Phil Hartman. Unfortunately, there isn't a lot (I haven't read the entire book, I've just read the chapter that recounts meeting him the first time, and the one where she remembers the day he was killed

This is the most useable quote, from Pg. 71 - "Clean and unassuming, he had such a casual, no-nonsense way about him. It was that quality that we all find so hilarious, his delightful ability to poke fun at himself and at life with a tongue-in-cheek attitude comparable to, say, Tim Conway or Mel Brooks or Carol Burnett." -- Scorpion0422 02:30, 26 October 2008 (UTC)

Philip Hartman

I'm not sure if his role in Simpsons pages belongs in "later career" since he started voicing characters on the show just some time before leaving SNL. As well, the briefly talk about him in the commentary for "Bart the Murderer" and they specifically mention how they got him to take a recurring role. Might be useful. Obligatory Simpsons THOH quote: "this house has quite a colourful history. It was the site of Satanic rituals, Witch burnings and five John Denver christmas specials." -- Scorpion0422 15:41, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

I think for now, it is best to keep stuff that happened after his death in that section. It keeps things more organized, rather than jumping all over the place. BTW, what do you think of Bart's article? I'm hoping to have it FAC ready by next Friday. Just Marge is left (and right now her article is proving to be easier than I thought it would be), also on that note, I decided to include a slightly shortened version of the letter sent by "Marge" to Barbara Bush. Is this a good idea or unnecessaru? "I look forward to an orderly election tomorrow that will eliminate the need for a violent bloodbath." -- Scorpion0422 16:09, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
Also, (and this is solely from memory), but I think Hartman is mentioned in the commentary for Marge in Chains. You might be able to get some nice compliments. "Dad, we did something horrible." "Did you wreck the car?" "no" "Did you raise the dead?" "Yes" "But the car is okay?" -- Zombie Scorpion0422 18:05, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

I think I've found a free image of Glenn Close [9], would you mind uploading it? Thanks, Scorpion0422 19:21, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

BTW, you're input is welcome here. -- Scorpion0422 19:38, 17 November 2008 (UTC)
That's weird, it's not on her page for some reason. Thanks anyway. -- Scorpion0422 19:50, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

I don't know if you listened to this one already, but there are some very good comments about Hartman in the second commentary (the one involving Conan) for Marge vs. the Monorail (it starts about six minutes in and goes on for a bit). Conan says some very nice things about him, and you might be able to use them. Groening also mentions that Hartman insisted on auditioning for the part of Zapp Branigan. -- Scorpion0422 19:53, 22 November 2008 (UTC)

Just an update, the Movie lost the Environmental Media Award, you may want to add that. On a side note, Marge is proving immensely difficult to write a voice section about, Julie Kavner is notoriously shy, rarely gives interviews and when she does, she refuses to talk about her techniques and usually steers away from The Simpsons. -- Scorpion0422 17:42, 23 November 2008 (UTC)

re: Subject provides information

Does the guy have a website? He could create a website with the material, and release the text under the GFDL by contacting WP:OTRS. Cirt (talk) 22:02, 4 November 2008 (UTC)

Info box

A film information box is to provide information to people about who wrote the actual film - it's irrelevant in that context who wrote the original series or indeed that GR created the characters. Otherwise where do we stop? list the creators of the enterprise? List the creators of specific characters? etc etc --Cameron Scott (talk) 21:27, 25 November 2008 (UTC)

Help

Hi, my name's Roger Black (Roger Black2 is my user name) and I know 10% of how Wikipedia works. When I was searching on Google, your name came up and I find this page very useful. I was wondering if you could help me with how to work Wikipedia. Thanks.Roger black2 (talk) 19:01, 26 November 2008 (UTC)

Thanking

Hi Gran2, it's Roger Black. I just wanted to thank you for replying. You and Gimme Danger (I don't know if you know him/her) are the only two helping me so far. Thanks.Roger black2 (talk) 20:57, 26 November 2008 (UTC)

Oh joy

I think our old friend is back. 86.173.33.66 (talk · contribs · WHOIS) - starts with an 86, registered to British Telecom, added the age field to an infobox, I'm pretty sure it's him. Thankfully, he hasn't done any real vandalizing yet, but we should keep an eye out in case he decides to start. -- Scorpion0422 14:47, 27 November 2008 (UTC)

Lisa the Vegetarian

Wow, thanks a lot! =) I'm not done with the plot section though, and the whole article needs copyediting. I'm not very good at copyediting, though, so we'll all need to work together if we want bring it up to FA status. --TheLeftorium 20:48, 1 December 2008 (UTC)

Cool, thanks! --TheLeftorium 20:54, 1 December 2008 (UTC)

Homie the Clown

Looks great! :) The lead doesn't mention the airdate though. TheLeftorium 17:21, 6 December 2008 (UTC)

Could you take a look at "King-Size Homer" before I nominate it? TheLeftorium 20:52, 6 December 2008 (UTC)

Hello Again

Hi Gran2, sorry I've been a bit busy and I've only just come round to Wikipedia again.Roger black2 (talk) 22:41, 17 December 2008 (UTC)

Your Choice

It is Cool-Dude Tim here. i originally wrote this on Simpsons Wikia, but i saw that there hadn't been much speech in a long time. i deleted it and I am writing it on here. Anyway, Scorpion0422 was right, it was me doing all that stuff. As you know, i haven't vandalised Wikipedia in a long time. i have just made pages. what I mean by it being your choice is to unblock me.86.136.80.53 (talk) 20:21, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
I tried to stop a vandal from saying Diana will win the X Factor.86.136.80.53 (talk) 20:36, 19 December 2008 (UTC)

Homie the Clown has been reviewed.

Check it out. - Peregrine Fisher (talk) (contribs) 22:21, 20 December 2008 (UTC)

Ok

Thanks Gran2. I need a chat with you on my talk page about why I was doing this.Sharp Kid (talk) 20:30, 22 December 2008 (UTC) Also, I have some stuff I'd like to tell only you and Scorpio0422 will know. That will need a brand new page.Sharp Kid (talk) 20:41, 22 December 2008 (UTC)

Peep Show

I am not happy that you removed my Peep Show Talk contribution without consulting me. Whatever the reason, no one has greater rights than anyone else on the talk page and I have a right to free speech. Thank you. Sycorax13 (talk) 16:32, 23 December 2008 (UTC)

Two points: (a) you have not cited any rule; (b) you have, without consulting me, set yourself up as judge and jury on my post and in fact you are no better a man than me. Best Wishes. Sycorax13 (talk) 16:37, 23 December 2008 (UTC)

Robert Webb

You claim my edit to the Robert Webb Page is not reflective of relevant or important information. You are wrong. It is an interesting example of the bizarre, inter-locking British Oxbridge education system, provides texture and personal interest to an otherwise dry and dull little wiki page, and tells us more about Webb's character than all this 'he was an usher' nonsense featured on the page. Wikipedia does not need to be as freakishly boring as you seem to be advocating for. As for the 'speculation' accusation -it is clear who Smith is referring to, as there are no other Footlights reps from this era in 90's Cambridge about whom she could be writing - they simply are the only well-known british comedy television double act she could be referring to. Happy Xmas. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mansfieldfifteen (talkcontribs) 14:56, 26 December 2008 (UTC)
