+ cleanup-date|February 2007 HIV trial in Libya edit

any explanation of what you want done? there is a discussion page68.60.68.203 15:37, 14 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

The template talks about itself. The article needs a cleanup to meet Wikipedia standards. The template states the following:

This article or section may require cleanup to meet Wikipedia's quality standards. Please help improve this article or replace this tag with a more specific message. This article has been tagged since February 2007. (help, talk)

So what's would be the reason to state the same thing at the talk page if the template is quite explicit? -- Szvest - Wiki me up ® 16:27, 14 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
well you put the tag -maybe you could be more specific in your concerns. otherwise I don't know what you want. But I am mostly interested in gathering facts, & mostly leave that kind of stuff to others.I notice that you speak Arabic which would be extremely useful if you are interested in improving this article. In particular I am trying to track down the 100 page document explaining the verdict that the court posted on 'Libya Today' newspaper site as reported in Sofia Weekly(english) 68.60.68.203 18:06, 14 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Abu Izzadeen edit

Hello Szvest, I've been editing on this article and have recently gotten into a slight tussle with user Hugedummy (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · page moves · block user · block log) over the inclusion of a parenthical translation of the word deen in a quote from this man. The original version of the parenthetical translation was just "religion". An anon IP editor came along and correctly attempted to change the translation to be truer to the meaning of the word. User:Hugedummy reverted this attempt. Seeing the inaccuracy of simply calling "deen" → (religion) I attempted to change the translation myself. Now I admit that there is a possibility that I could be wrong on this but I honestly believe that to put the word "religion" right next to the word "deen" in this quote constitutes original research because in fact we don't know what specifically Izzadeen meant by using the word "deen". Accordingly I removed the translation entirely and just left a wikilink from the word. I've since been reverted again. Knowing that you almost surely have a better understanding of this word than either Hugedummy or myself, I was wondering if you could review the history of these revisions and then weight in on this? Thanks. (Netscott) 19:40, 14 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Szvest, I think I've answered my own question here. Both sources in this article cited for this quote have "deen" (Muslim code of life) here and here per WP:V this is in fact what should go into the article. I'm trying now to sort out this problem alone so for now I invite you to hold off unless I get back to you about this. Thanks. (Netscott) 20:45, 14 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
Well unfortunately the other user has been blocked for 3RR. I've added to the article's talk page. If you could add a word that'd be appreciated. Thanks. (Netscott) 00:46, 15 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Image:Famillerose.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Famillerose.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sherool (talk) 20:12, 14 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

I woke up this morning edit

You have received the seldom coveted Thumbs Up Award for your gallent efforts at the Battle of Cieneguilla

to discover that the Battle of Cieneguilla was a much changed place, thanks largely to your dedicated input. Now I'm going to have to get serious about it too. I actually only posted that stub so that I could frame questions for the candidates, but one of the things about my creations is that I so rarely know where it will go. Carptrash 18:03, 15 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the thumbs up Carptrash. I learned alot of stuff while working on the article. Much appreciated. -- Szvest - Wiki me up ® 19:20, 15 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks Peter. -- Szvest - Wiki me up ® 11:05, 16 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
I woke up and discovered Cantonment Burgwin had sprung up overnight. I added a few things and will probably add more since i plan to visit it soon. The stub on John Burgwin was mine and that can be enlarged too. One of the mysteries I am still engaged in regarding the Battle of Cieneguilla is where the 20 to 22 dragoons who were killed were buried. If the bodies were taken up to Taos they would probably have been buried at Burgwin, but if they were buried near where they were killed then they could have been the stone piles that I discovered at, or near, the battle site. (original research!!!!) I have pictures of them, but, of course (opinion) looking at the outside does not tell much about what is inside and I am not about to go digging into what might be graves - even for wikipedia. Carptrash 16:00, 16 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
Now I see that John Davidson (general) has suddenly appeared. I went to Santa Fe (the capitol of New Mexico) two days ago - went to the State Library and Historical Archives and found a copy of his biography by his grandson, Xeroxed the pages regarding the Battle of Cieneguilla and am reviewing those. The real interesting part of his story (opinion) begins when he returns to the West after the Civil War as on officer for the Buffalo Soldiers. Now I will have to get that book again. HOWEVER - our connection began when you responded to a question of mine regarding original research. I have now found the letter from Lt. Bell written shortly after Cieneguilla in which Bell, who was out here (Northern New Mexico) at the time presents a very different view of the fight and makes some of the allegations that lead to the Official Inquiry. A typed version of Bell's letter was given to me by the archeologist who was investigating the battle a few years ago and I have no idea how, or even IF the general public could access it. So do I use the letter in the article or not? Actually I will use it, but and any one else, will get to decide if the POV contained in it is admissible or not. Life . It is supposed to be interesting. I also have a large piece of the transcript of the Court of Inquiry that I hope to get around to including. Carptrash 15:54, 19 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
When i titled the sections "The role of Lieutenant Davidson" and "Court of inquiry" i wanted to give a context to the battle. I am not meaning by that that i wanted to focus on Davidson's mishandling of the battle or the opposite but i just wanted to focus on the encyclopaedic aspect of the battle. So, IMHO, the letter is of a high encyclopaedic value and should be mentioned. However, we should not, in any case, argue about its content. In other words, we can only state what's in it without judging its content (i.e. saying the allegations are right or not). This approach respects the nature of NPOV. If we read carefully the article as it is now, we will notice that the two sections above-mentioned do not give credit to neither Bell nor Davidson and so should be the letter. We only state facts and cannot analyze. Cheers. -- FayssalF - Wiki me up ® 17:10, 19 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hello :-) edit

Good evening Fayssal, I am new to Wikipedia, and I submitted a few links in a few articles. I thought it didn't work in that article related to Morocco, but then I just noticed that it was removed by you. I was just wondering if it's much asking to leave the links there as they are related to the Moroccan culture, and could be useful to people who didn't check the Moroccan Arabic article. That was a peacfull message, huh? :) Thanks. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by BerberGirl (talkcontribs) 19:52, 19 February 2007 (UTC).Reply

Hi BerberGirl :) I appreciate your contributions and they are welcomed. The thing is we have a few policies, guidelines and manual of styles. One of them is Wikipedia:External links. Links normally to be avoided include sites that are only indirectly related to the article's subject. The problem with external links is not limited to Morocco's article but it is common in Wikipedia. As i put on the edit summary, the link is suitable for Moroccan Arabic. If we allow such a link in the main Morocco article that we'd be having thousands of links and that is not the aim of wikipedia.
The other problem with the link you provided is that it is a personal website. It is a blog and blogs are to be avoided in general unless we have no other sites which can provide such informations.
Anyway, you can keep a link (preferably not 2 or all of them) in Morocco's main article but i cannot assure you that they would remain there as maybe someone would delete them. Please feel free to approach me anytime you need help. Regards -- FayssalF - Wiki me up ® 20:07, 19 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

That WikiProject Spain admin request edit

Hola, Fayssal - as you may have noticed, we've been rolling out putting the WP:SPAIN banner on Spain-related articles' talk pages, by using a bot to tag articles' talk pages which are in Spain-related categories. We've been at this for a couple of weeks, and we've gotten pretty good at it! Our general philosophy is that the benefit of the bot is that its easier to tag 100 articles and delete from the tag from 2 of them, rather than try to manually tag 98!

The bot only does 40 categories per day (usually around 300-500 articles), and we deal with any issues as they arise. Before the bot runs, we had gone through all the Spain-related categories, and tried to eliminate categories which appear to have a significant number of non-Spain-related articles (the plan is to deal with those manually later). But occasionally we goof, and tags appear on articles which are not sufficiently Spain-related to keep the tag.

So, that's a long way of letting you know that if you could lend a hand on the occasional "roll-back" where its easier to delete all the "over-included" tags from a category (and then go back and add some manually), than it will be to go through the category and delete the "over-included" tags one-by-one.

We currently have a situation like that with the Category:Fauna of Spain articles. Despite its name, that category actually resulted in tags on animals that are also outside of Spain. At this point, it would be easiest if you could contact the bot operator and let the operator know that you'll be rolling-back the run of that particular category (the operator's aware of the situation, and is expecting to be contacted by an admin to lend a hand on this). You can easily reach the operator on the bot project talk page. The operator's been very helpful!

If you're not able to lend a hand, that's understandable, just let me know! EspanaViva 19:51, 20 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

It basically entails working from the bots log to find out the first and last edit regarding the category and then just go of its contribution list to roll back all bar the obvious Spanish articles. If the bot created a new talkpage I have tended to delete, but they could be blanked. See my contribution & deletion log for recent examples. I'd prefer someone who has an interrest in the WP to do it to minimise errors. Agathoclea 23:06, 20 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Your block on my page edit

The anonymous user has been pushing racist Japanese propaganda that's the same as propaganda that blared over loudspeakers by "black vans" that are driven around Japan. It is comparable to new-nazi views.

I don't see how my reference to this is in any way any worse of a "personal attack" than this anonymous user stalking me by googling down my comments on other unrelated websites and telling me off with a snide comment about my "CNN soundbite" knowlege, etc.. He has pasted this comment on my talk page as well the talk page here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Korea_under_Japanese_rule#Melonbarmonster. Please tell me how I should respond to such behavior. How is my comment a "personal attack" while the anonymous user is getting away with flaming people left and right, engaging in RW's while flagarantly violating the 3RR, etc.??? Please explain to me why my "black van" comment is any worse than the "CNN" comment and stalkerish behavior of the anonymous user.

Secondly, the first admin who blocked me was clearly out of line. There was no "personal attack" under definition un WP:NPA in any way. He miscounted and misunderstood the reverts that was being instigated by another user. You also did not lift my block in spite telling me that you would and then further instigated this situation with another block. You did not respond to my inquiry as to what was going on and your second block was just inflammatory trollish. Moreover, the block and admin unresponsiveness left me with no venue for inquiry and discussion. This inconsistent and unfair application of the blocks while disabling my ability to protest is undemocratic and an abuse of power.

Please take off the block on my talk page. The time period for your blocks have passed and I have a right to make good faith edits to my talk page.Melonbarmonster 20:52, 23 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi Melonbarmonster. Thanks for your explanations. Tensions between editors are common in wikipedia as you know and knowing how to deal w/ them is the key to better editing.
I agree that the first block was a bit out of line and for that reason i unblocked you on the spot. However, admin Jesey Devil acted in a proper way when he posted a call for a block review. I verified the facts and unblocked you. These things happen all the time. Do not forget that nobody is perfect and that we only strive to build a better encyclopaedia.
My second block came just after you this incident: Crawl back into your black van.. The question here is the following: Was that a personal attack? My answer is YES.
Now, as i trust your will to make good faith edits, you can archive the whole talk page and move forward. -- FayssalF - Wiki me up ® 17:18, 24 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Roazit reply2 edit

Thanks for your reply! I am from Iran and I know how things are in Iran and it does indeed bother me that this website is full of Iranian nationists (it depends on how we characterise and separate nationalism and racism) who are aggressively pursuing policies according to which all they edit glorifies Iran and of course they centre on the Persian identity of Iran ignoring the remaining 50% or so of Iranians (and I am one of the non-Persian). Please take a look at the article about Chehregani (an Azerbaijani nationalist or separatist, I don't know much) and tell me whether it is a wiki article or an Iranian (or middle-eastern style) article making so many statements rather than focusing on the facts. And this article about Iranian Azerbaijan is trying so hard to link the Azeris of Iran to Persians and even they have written something that strikes of racism (to me at least) linking the Azeri DNA to Persians. It was written "race" before and they removed it because of me asking. Why does an article about Iranian Azerbaijan need to link the DNA of the people to "supreme race" (Aryan or Persian) race as they used to call during the Pahlavi? And most Iranians here seem to be either Islamist, or Aryanist Farsist, or a combination of both. Quite funny, and sad, that they edit according to their prejudices. You've been w/ us since a few weeks now and i really know how one feels when joining wikipedia. i personally went thru that as well and participated in the Islamic conquest of Persia before and afrter moving the title from Islamic conquest of Iran to Islamic conquest of Persia but never lost my temperament. Nice to meet you too. I had written that I regret being an Iranian and that had offended the Iranian I was talking to (ali doostzadeh). I still do regret being an Iranian and I have always regretted it. It is a pleasure of mine to offend Iranians (if they get offended) by expressing my personal views about my personal choices, but I have not edited according to my personal views ;) It is my pleasure to try the tiny limits of my fellow Iranians' tolerance toward difference. The centuries of life under tyrrany has created a nation (or a mixture of nations) that tend to be quite aggressive toward difference. Look at our brother in Iraq! Anyway, nice to meet you ;) Roazir 18:05, 24 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Vandalism fixes edit

Thanks you for your vandalism fixes to the Afrocentrism page. There is a persistent clique attempting to disrupt the page and remove balanced scholarship. Your efforts are appreciated.Jollypops 07:37, 26 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fairhills High School edit

In the course of my editing, I noticed you protected this article back in November. I'm not sure whether the protection itself has expired or not (is there a way to see that without being an administrator?), but the template's still on the article. I think it's probably okay for you to unprotect it at this point. Shimeru 07:43, 26 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

my support and will continue to have it. Meanwhile I have tracked down the recent scholarship about the Battle of Cieneguilla - one is in a new book costing $175, so I won't be buying it - and am corresponding with the fellow about to publish more. I am not inclided to make too many changes until he does publish - but I want to thank you for really getting the article started, it is now becoming something real. Thanks for your trust again. Well, since you are still in contact w/ the researcher than that's good news. I'll be watching the article and help in case it is needed. Cheers. -- FayssalF - Wiki me up ® 16:09, 26 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Actually... edit

Well, actually there is something in which you could help (never offer help; people may actually take advantage of it! ;-)). I've noted that you've became, like me, a member of WP:LIBYA, so you may be interested in some articles I've been working on that involve Chadian-Libyan relations (Chadian-Libyan conflict, Toyota War, Opération Manta). If you've any time to lose giving a look at one or more of these, would you give me your opinion (brutal criticism is especially appreciated)? Ciao, and congratulations.--Aldux 16:37, 27 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi Aldux. Thanks and yes, you are somehow right :) Well, my main work as a coordinator will be focusing on everything related to Africa military history and obviously the Chadian-Libyan conflict would be part of it. I'll read them carefully and give you a summary. -- FayssalF - Wiki me up ® 16:55, 27 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
  • Chadian-Libyan conflict - The lead is very short. I am thinking of adding some background info to it. The section titles (i.e. The insurgency expands, Libyan difficulties) seem a bit more journalistic than encyclopaedic. Excellent notes and references. -- FayssalF - Wiki me up ® 17:28, 27 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Islamic architecture - thoughts... edit

You are right - dominated by photos. On the other hand, architecture is a very visual subject so it is only natural. I suggest maybe shrinking some of the photos, and even creating a gallery at the end of the page for excess photos that are too good to remove. I used such a gallery on Indonesian architecture. (by the way, i hope to soon develop that article's section on historic mosques in Indonesia).Merbabu 13:17, 1 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

I was thinking about adding a gallery at the bottom of the article. The example of Indonesian architecture is a good one. -- FayssalF - Wiki me up ® 13:20, 1 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Element td speedy deletion to speedy? edit

Please do not recreate Element td article. If you want it recreated you must go through Wikipedia:Deletion review. Thanks. -- FayssalF - Wiki me up ® 12:53, 1 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

As the author of the article in question, I naturaly disagree with it beeing deleted. :) But maybe you could explain to me why you did delete it, since it is not a recreation of the original version.
(An editor has asked for a deletion review of Element td. Since you closed the deletion discussion for this article or speedy-deleted it, you might want to participate in the deletion review.) Cisz Helion 13:36, 1 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Hi again Cisz. Well, once an article is voted upon and the decision was to delete it, nobody has the right to recreate it again. This rule is part of Deletion policy. However, you can review the deletion by listing the deleted article at Wikipedia:Deletion review. I see that you have listed it already and that's the proper procedure. Cheers. -- FayssalF - Wiki me up ® 13:44, 1 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the information. I find this rule a bit confusing, as it apears to be abusable. If I get this right, I can easily prevent topics to be covered by writing articles that will be deleted for sure, with the only intension of making it impossible or at least harder to get the matter covered by other authors. (For example I could write spam under a title that will be important in the next presidential election in the US, because I don't want anybody to cover the topic, as my political views are against it..) But as I am given a process to get my work into wikipedia, maybe it wont make any difference. Wish me luck, Cisz Helion 15:40, 1 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
I see your point and it is a valid one. I think the deletion review treats and solves this problem especially if you present arguments that show the the new content is encyclopaedic. -- FayssalF - Wiki me up ® 16:58, 1 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

An editor has asked for a deletion review of Element td. Since you closed the deletion discussion for this article or speedy-deleted it, you might want to participate in the deletion review. Please note, your actions are being questioned in the deletion review and I though that you may want to know this. -- Jreferee 06:12, 2 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi Jreferee. The article in question was voted upon weeks ago (see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Element TD) and the result was to delete it. It was recreated yesterday by User:Cisz Helion, who is a new user and i don't blame him for recreating it. User:Shenme reported the incident on March 1 before i deleted it. I don't have any problem with recreating it again if people agree. -- FayssalF - Wiki me up ® 14:30, 2 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Cappiello_poster.jpg) edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Cappiello_poster.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you.

No sé porqué falté Jefferson y JFK. Demasiado interesante. -- FayssalF - Wiki me up ® 15:12, 3 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
