Adam Santelli is an American Cinematographer most recently known for his Disney Channel Original Movies Freaky Friday, Upside-down Magic and Descendants 3.

Adam Santelli lives and works in Los Angeles, United States.

Film career

edit

Santelli’s work in narrative includes the feature film adaptation of the novel UPSIDE-DOWN MAGIC, the action series CHOP SHOP directed by Elliott Lester, and the hugely successful DESCENDANTS 3, directed by award-winning filmmaker Kenny Ortega. Santelli’s documentary work includes RESILIENCE, a climate change film supported by the Rockefeller Foundation, and RUNAWAY, an installation part of the Historic Hudson Valley preservation.

Other professional activities

edit

In addition to working as a Cinematographer, Santelli is the Founder of The Billboard Creative, which places works by emerging and established artists on billboards across Los Angeles.[1]

In keeping with a long-time interest in music, Adam Santelli has also shot music videos for Award-Winning Artists such as Marylin Manson, Alice Cooper, Ramones, Ice Cube, Snoop Dog, Ludacris and many others.

Santelli also has an extensive career in photography and mixed media art. He is most known for his series The Cannon Ball.

“The Cannon Ball series evolved out of photos I took to explore the nature of confinement, both physical and psychological. I used large pieces of plexiglass to contain my subjects underwater. While this process resulted in some beautiful images of the human form, I was surprised to discover an even more powerful sense of beauty resulting from the model's process of coming to grips with their loss of control. And just as the models lost control of their bodies, their facial expressions, their pose, I lost control of the standard items in the photographer's toolbox - lights, crews, verbal direction, repetition of shots, or even the benefit of real underwater camera housing, which was too bulky and cumbersome for use in this series. The real beauty of the Cannonball series comes from the fact that the models aren't floating or at peace at all. Rather, they are hurling their bodies through the water as is seen in their skin, muscles, and faces and in the bubbles created as their bodies pierce the water. What I found during that process was the freedom that comes from capturing what cannot be manipulated. In the end I had to accept the unpredictability that comes with two people plunging into the unknown."[2]
