Precious

Cleveland area
Thank you for quality contributions to articles such as Cleveland, for gnomish work "in the area", adding better pictures, moves, merges, more factual wording, redirects, categories, for a lovely user page and for listening to "Nice work!", - you are an awesome Wikipedian!

Xipu, Fujian and Xipu Town (Zhangzhou)‎.

Hi there, I nominated these pages for CSD because there is no such place - it's Xibu, not Xipu - the original creator made a mistake with the Chinese character. I'm perplexed why you would decline a technical delete for somewhere that doesn't exist. Cheers, ► Philg88 ◄  talk 15:40, 22 February 2014 (UTC)

Several reasons: the redirects have been in place for quite a while, and are still in use. Deleting them would create broken links on Wikipedia, not to mention links from elsewhere on the web. In addition, a plausible misspelling is not a valid criteria for speedy deletion, nor are most redirects created by page moves eligible (see WP:CSD#R3). If you think it would help, we could tag them as {{r from misspelling}} to keep them out of indexes. If you feel they need to go, please nominate them at WP:RFD. - Eureka Lott 16:24, 22 February 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for the explanation. It's no big deal if the two redirects stay - I doubt they will create a disc space issue :), and you have a point re the plausible misspelling. Best, ► Philg88 ◄  talk 04:46, 23 February 2014 (UTC)
By the way, I noticed that Xibu is a redlink. Should the article be moved there? I'm not familiar with the naming conventions for Chinese place names. If I'm reading the guideline correctly, the disambiguation in the title may not be necessary. - Eureka Lott 05:00, 23 February 2014 (UTC)

Google maps shows that there are four other Xibus dotted about China so Xibu, Zhangzhou lets readers check if they are in the right place. As I understand the guidance, this is District/Sub-district disambiguation.► Philg88 ◄  talk 05:41, 23 February 2014 (UTC)

Got it. In that case, the article should stay where it is. When you have a chance, you might want to start a disambiguation page at Xibu. - Eureka Lott 06:34, 24 February 2014 (UTC)

Chinese railway stations

Sorry to trouble you again but please could you move the following over their existing redirect pages for compliance with WP:NC-ZH, cardinal direction in English.

Hangzhoudong Railway Station -> Hangzhou East Railway Station
Yuyaobei Railway Station -> Yuyao North Railway Station
Ningbodong Railway Station -> Ningbo East Railway Station

Many thanks, ► Philg88 ◄  talk 15:42, 23 February 2014 (UTC)

Done In the future, if you don't want to wait for me to check in, you can tag the redirects with {{db-move}} and they'll be listed as candidates for speedy moves. - Eureka Lott 06:34, 24 February 2014 (UTC)
Many thanks. ► Philg88 ◄  talk 07:54, 24 February 2014 (UTC)

Another Chinese railway station

Alas, I had planned not to trouble you again and use {{Db-move}} instead, but of course, the best laid plans ... Anyhow, I cocked up a move and rather than try and explain it via a template on the page please could you move Huizhoun South Railway Station to Huizhou South Railway Station over the redirect. This SHOULD be the last one. Many thanks, ► Philg88 ◄  talk 08:10, 24 February 2014 (UTC)

Sorry for the taking so long to respond, Philg88. I can move Huizhoun South Railway Station, but I need to make sure I understand the rationale first. Is the current title a typo? - Eureka Lott 00:43, 21 March 2014 (UTC)
No problem. Yes, it's a typo - erroneous "n", should be "Huizhou". Thanks in advance, ► Philg88 ◄  talk 04:02, 21 March 2014 (UTC)

Revert Willard Park

Hi

You just reverted my edit, which was made because MoS says to "Use italics, not boldface, for emphasis in article text.". I did not realise it was a linked item.

Glad that came up as a notification (it is useful after all lol) as I'll have to incorporate checks for that into my future copyedits. Is the only way to check to look at "what links here"?

Thanks Chaosdruid (talk) 19:01, 22 April 2014 (UTC)

I usually check "what links here" and select "hide links" to make it easier to spot any redirects (example). There's also an application on the Toolserver for identifying redirects, but I never use it. - Eureka Lott 04:31, 23 April 2014 (UTC)

Sports in Ohio

Thanks for deleting the redirect and moving the Sport in Ohio article to Sports in Ohio. If you are in the mood, the same issue exists for the Sport in _____ articles for New Jersey, Missouri, and Indiana. I would make the changes myself, but I don't know how. Hello there, a proposal regarding pre-adminship review has been raised at Village pump by Anna Frodesiak. Your comments here is very much appreciated. Many thanks. Jim Carter through MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 06:47, 28 May 2014 (UTC)

Category:Warehouse 13

Thanks for adding cats to Category:Warehouse 13 and its related cats. These were all deleted recently because they were created by a blocked user in violation of his block. I don't think the deletions were constructive so I recreated the cats but as I couldn't see the deleted cats, I had to guess as to what other categories were linked to so they're probably still missing a few. --AussieLegend () 04:51, 25 June 2014 (UTC)

Blocking a user

How do I go about getting user Poopisrocking blocked??? He keeps on vandalising the page Cleveland Cavaliers. Hardcoreromancatholic (talk) 22:21, 7 August 2014 (UTC)

Hi. Thanks for helping to remove vandalism. Another administrator has already blocked that user, so the issue has been taken care of. I'll keep an eye on the Cleveland Cavaliers article, and will semi-protect it if the amount of vandalism increases. Thanks again! - Eureka Lott 13:30, 8 August 2014 (UTC)

Central-Hower High School

I want to change the heading and add a section to reflect that the former Central-Hower High School, is now the National Inventors Hall of Fame STEM High School, but no matter what I do, it will not turn out right. Can you help me???? Hardcoreromancatholic (talk) 03:02, 18 August 2014 (UTC)

Disappearance of Beverly Potts

Hi,

Can you help me bring Disappearance of Beverly Potts up to Good Article or Featured Article? There's a book (Twilight of Innocence: The Disappearance of Beverly Potts) that we could cannibalise, and facts are not copyrighted. Paul Austin (talk) 12:50, 8 September 2014 (UTC)

Wold Newton

"category is for articles unique to the series, not for characters appropriated by Farmer"

Where does it say that? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rick Norwood (talkcontribs)

Hi. Thanks for the note. We've had issues with categories related to this series in the past. Fans of the series would place every character appearing in the books in a Wold Newton category, and it quickly became untenable. I hope we don't have to deal with that again. For me, it's a matter of whether the characters' inclusion in the books is a defining characteristic. For the characters borrowed by Farmer, it's probably not one of their defining characteristics. - Eureka Lott 18:08, 16 September 2014 (UTC)

Poor timing.

Yeah, those were nominated at 23:34, he changed the first article to re-include them at 23:39... so I nom'd them before our revert actions. In fact, one was nominated hours prior to any discussion between us (16:04) for a regular 'ol nomination for deletion, but I later changed them to speedy. Poor timing, but timestamps should clear things up. -Kai445 (talk) 04:20, 22 September 2014 (UTC)

Ah, I see. The nomination was in good faith. For future reference, please note that WP:CSD#A10 is for articles only, not for templates. WP:CSD#T3 is the criterion for redundant templates, and has a built-in seven day waiting period. Also, please take care when using Twinkle. Its tools are intended for anti-vandalism efforts, an using them in an editing dispute can be considered abuse. - Eureka Lott 04:41, 22 September 2014 (UTC)

Christine Shevchenko‎

Hi, so in regards to the conversation we all had at the Criteria for speedy deletion about merging the draft: Draft:Christine Shevchenko with the redirect: Christine Shevchenko‎, what was the outcome? It wasn't really settled but since there is a draft, can the draft be moved to the page and then the history merged? Because I tried to speedy delete it but the same user removed it saying it's still controversial. Help lol LADY LOTUSTALK 11:57, 2 October 2014 (UTC)

Hi. I can merge the two pages, but I'd like to hear User:Hullaballoo Wolfowitz's thoughts before we take any action. - Eureka Lott 23:51, 2 October 2014 (UTC)
If it were only me, I'd get out of the way and write it off to me being too much of a policy wonk. But the discussion at Wikipedia talk:Criteria for speedy deletion#Speedy delete a redirect page for article shows that this proposal is controversial, and that there isn't consensus to support it. So I don't believe it's appropriate. The Big Bad Wolfowitz (aka Hullaballoo) (talk) 02:05, 3 October 2014 (UTC)
What would you propose as an alternative? The draft is ready to go, so now it looks like a textbook WP:CSD#G6 case. There's nothing significant in the redirect's history. Eureka Lott 02:46, 3 October 2014 (UTC)
Lady Lotus should simply edit the existing page. That's what I've done when this situation came up, and what other users have done when replacing redirects I'd created with full articles; that option probably got plurality support on the talk page.
