UPDATING GACI ARTICLE

edit

Hello Editors!

I am reaching out to the editors of the Generalized Arterial Calcification of Infancy (GACI) article because I am interested in updating and editing information on the GACI article page to make it more current and accurate. GACI has been known as a fatal disease for many years. However, in recent years there have been more and more survivors of this horrific genetic disorder.

During the past several years there has been significant advancements in GACI research. One significant advancement is the involvement of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in the United States. The NIH is the largest biomedical research agency in the world. In 2013, the NIH began GACI research and clinical studies. Since that time the NIH has seen patients with GACI of all ages from around the world. Furthermore, doctors at the NIH are collaborating with doctors in Europe on a Natural History Study for ENPP1 Deficiency (GACI Type 1 and ARHR2) and ABCC6 Deficiency (GACI Type 2). Enrollment for this study was completed in January 2019 and results are expected in early 2020. This is an example of important information which could be included in the GACI article.

It is extremely important that accurate and updated information is on the Wikipedia GACI article page especially for newly diagnosed families. It is essential they have quick access to accurate information for themselves and for their medical team! The updates made on the GACI article will be cited with a source from a medical journal or GeneReviews (Cite error: There are <ref> tags on this page without content in them (see the help page).https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK1116/). If any editors have further questions or concerns please respond to this article talk page.
