Welcome! edit

Hello, EgumballCA, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you edited appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or any other editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}} before the question. Again, welcome! Writing about your own company edit

Hello, EgumballCA. We welcome your contributions to Wikipedia, but if you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article Egumball Inc., you may have a conflict of interest or close connection to the subject.

All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about ensuring their edits are verified by reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.

If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:

  • Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
  • Be cautious about deletion discussions. Everyone is welcome to provide information about independent sources in deletion discussions, but avoid advocating for deletion of articles about your competitors.
  • Avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
  • Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Wikipedia's content policies.

Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. --McGeddon (talk) 17:42, 10 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Beyond just "wanting" your contribution to be neutral, you should follow all of the advice listed above. You should also change your username per WP:CORPNAME: you can be "Bob at EgumballCA" or "Marketing manager at EgumballCA", but you can't be the faceless gestalt of "EgumballCA" as a whole. WP:UNC says you can either formally request a new name or just abandon this account and register a new one (making it clear that you are doing so). --McGeddon (talk) 18:09, 10 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
The page at WP:UNC explains everything. --McGeddon (talk) 20:12, 10 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

If you're here to write about your own company, you must understand and follow the guidelines above. Take a look at WP:COIADVICE for a list of edits which are appropriate for you to make directly, and note that "If another editor objects for any reason, then it's a controversial edit" and should be discussed on the article's talk page instead of made directly. --McGeddon (talk) 20:24, 10 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Your attention needed at WP:CHU edit

Hello. A bureaucrat or clerk has responded to your username change request, but requires clarification before moving forward. Please follow up at your username change request entry as soon as possible. Thank you. Mlpearc (open channel) 01:35, 12 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames which give the impression that the account represents a group, organization or website, I have blocked this account; please take a moment to create a new account with a username that represents only yourself as an individual and which complies with our username policy.

You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose.

If your username does not represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} below this notice.

You may simply create a new account, but you may prefer to change your username to one that complies with our username policy, so that your past contributions are associated with your new username. If you would prefer to change your username, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} below this notice. Thank you. -- Ed (Edgar181) 16:14, 20 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

This user's request to be unblocked to request a change in username has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without a good reason (see the blocking policy). Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Requested username:

Request reason:

I have changed my username as per Wiki's request. Now both of my usernames have been blocked. Please help.

Decline reason:

You can't have a name that represents a position. Accounts are for individuals, and in two years time someone else might have that job. You can have something like 'Fred at Egumball', but not ContentSupervisorEgumball. This might sound nitpicking, but there are reasons. As to you having changed your name, did you start a new account or go to WP:CHU (or both...)? If you started a new account, what is the name? Peridon (talk) 19:23, 20 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
Found the problem at CHU - just the same as here. Your name hasn't been changed at CHU because of the reasons I gave above. But have you started another account? Peridon (talk) 19:27, 20 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Peridon, I completely understand now. My new name is AlexisGCA if that is okay. Thank you. EgumballCA (talk) 19:32, 20 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

That looks OK to me. This account can stay blocked. I'll notify CHU. Peridon (talk) 19:48, 20 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
