Hi!

edit

Hey, Eatshootsandleaves, welcome to Wikipedia! I happened to notice your username (well, another person noticed it and pointed it out), but, as it turns out, it's quite similar to another user's; namely, User:EatsShootsAndLeaves. Normally, we have a system in place that avoids these kinds of similar usernames, but it seems that yours has slipped through the cracks. If there's another username that you would like to have, it might be best to request a username change; the place and basic procedure for doing so is at this page, but I'd be happy to help you out with it if needed (I happen to be a bureaucrat, which means that carrying out user renames is one of my tasks here). I definitely think that would be a good idea to avoid possible confusion, but if that doesn't suit, it would be a good idea to at least put up some distinguishing notes at the top of your user and user talk pages, as outlined here; again, I'd be happy to help with that. Just let me know here (or on my talk page, if you prefer). Thanks, and happy editing! Writ Keeper  00:10, 15 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Ahoy!

edit

Hi Writ Keeper, bummer about the username! But I just put in the request to change it to eatsandshootsandleaves, so hopefully it will be both mildly clever and unambiguous. Let me know if something else pops up, and I'll take a stab at trying to fix it.

Sure, I'll keep you posted. My opinion is that it is different enough (and so I would carry out the rename), but it's not inarguably so, so I've asked for others' opinions (it would be a shame to go through the whole process only to find that people still object to it!). Feel free to comment again in your request if you like, though you probably don't really need to if you don't want. Writ Keeper  00:50, 15 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
Just a small update: I didn't find any other problems with the request, and your namesake (so to speak) is fine with the new name, so we should be good. I'll give it another hour or so, and if nobody has objected by then, I'll hit the button. Like I said there, though, it might still be a good idea to put {{Distinguish}} up at the top of your user talk page, just to be doubly-certain; I'll leave that up to you, though. (You'd type in {{Distinguish|User:EatsShootsAndLeaves}} at the top of the page, and it would come out looking like:
Anyway, I'll let you know if there are any other problems with the request, or when I end up completing it, but we should be good to go. Writ Keeper  01:04, 15 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
  • Haha. I was wondering whether "eat" was an imperative, or whether this editor was someone who eats hoots. (A nice case of synesthesia.) Yeah, I saw the name go by and dropped the "other" panda a line, and then asked Writ Keeper, a Certified Bureaucrat, for advice. Personally I don't have a problem esp. if the "distinguish" note is placed; I did check to see, though, if you were some troll trying to impersonate the other panda. That's clearly not the case. I'll leave it to Writ Keeper and you. Happy editing, Drmies (talk) 01:35, 15 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
I wish my plans were that diabolical Drmies, sadly I'm just another bloke trying to be clever (but apparently not original). Eatsandshootsandleaves
  • Okay, done! I've renamed this account to "Eatsandshootsandleaves"; be sure to use that as your username when logging in from now on. (It might be necessary to log out and then log back in with the new username, just to be safe.) As I said above, it's probably still a good idea to use the distinguish template, but again, I'll leave that to you. Thanks again! Writ Keeper  02:37, 15 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
