While going through the article history, i hae noticed that several edits have been made after it became a FA. Large sections in history section and other parts are not correctly referenced, 2 links have gone dead. [1] I would like you to give a closer look and do a bit of cleanup and other minor copyedits to make it regain the true worth of a FA. Amartyabag TALK2ME 11:48, 6 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi- Thanks for the welcome note. Its nice to see fellow wikipedian acknowledging my recent work. It feels nice when someone notices your good words and good articles. Best of luck !!! gppande «talk» 15:19, 6 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Yes, I joined wikipedia back in 2004 but was bystander. I liked reading wikipedia for my own knowledge. But now I have decided to contribute on articles I can improve or provide some degree of help. It's nice place where you can readily share your knowledge in front of huge audience. For example, while working on my native region Vidarbha's article I thought people might not be reading it since it lay in bad state. Even after my changes back in 2006 nobody added anything more. But one good tool showed page visited 2000 times in Feb!!!! This is much higher than other commercial websites on Vidarbha if you google. This website surely can make +ve impact. gppande «talk» 16:14, 6 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

The article is really good, and is definitely a near FA, only that there are some minor concerns, and I also see some problems with reliability of sources, as some sources need to be replaced. I'm all here to help. Consider me.:) ShahidTalk2me 16:19, 6 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Are hindisong.com and dishant.com reliable? ShahidTalk2me 16:33, 6 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
Dwaipayanc, firstly, thanks for considering the article for an FAC. I was not sure about it because of a good copy-edit that I felt it lacked. Now, with renewed interest, I feel this might make the grade. However, I still feel that you reducing the lead section was probably not a good idea. Other similar FA articles have sort of the lead section the article previously had. I thought, we could discuss it here.
To Shahid's comments, Dishant.com is the only one I could find the soundtrack on. Hindisong, I feel is not a RS, but it seems to be a fair interview. Some facts in it, correspond to other RS's. Cheers! Mspraveen (talk) 16:46, 6 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
I see there is no problem with citing this source for an interview, so it's fine. I just remember that we had to remove one review of hindisong from hindisong, but if there is no problem with this interview, forget it. Also, Dishant is a source for soundtrack so I guess there shouldn't be any objection. Regards, ShahidTalk2me 16:49, 6 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Yes, I will work on the comprehensiveness of the article. In the meanwhile, I'll write to Blofeld and see if he can spare some time in contributing/suggesting towards improvement. So long, Mspraveen (talk) 16:35, 8 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks

Thanks for your words of encouragement. You may have missed Dhaki because you were away at that time. A number of professions like Shankaris, Kansaris, idol-makers, and shola-artists need to be covered. Even dasakarma bhandars play such a critical role in the lives of people. There are hundreds of topics one can pick up and develop. I wish there were more people around interested in this sort of work. I wonder why there are so many people with a school teacher mentality. They enjoy correcting what others write but in the end really don't contribute anything much. Regards. - P.K.Niyogi (talk) 03:39, 7 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Mahanagar2.jpg

edit

Thank you for uploading Image:Mahanagar2.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 14:59, 8 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Mr. and Mrs. Iyer FAC

edit

Hi,

I'll try and improve the page if I can. However, I may not be able to spend much time at it. Anyway, the main problem with the page is that the prose isn't anything to get excited about. Its fine and readable, but lacks the killer punch that FA articles should have, that is, it should be extremely easy to read and should entice the reader to continue reading. Here, that doesn't really happen. The first reason is that the sentences are not written in a chain, but are freestanding, so there isn't a connection between one sentence and the next. It basically needs improvement in grammer and sentence order within the paragraph itself. Otherwise, its pretty good.

I've put this page on my watchlist, so i'll try and get to it if I can. Thanks. T/@Sniperz11editssign 15:15, 11 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the ping, Dwaipayan! I am well and somewhat more active on wikipedia recently - although still mainly working on article maintenance rather than content creation. What are you working on nowadays ? Any interesting articles or FAC drives ? Regards. Abecedare (talk) 02:48, 16 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

I unfortunately missed the Mr. and Mrs. Iyer 's FAC, especially since the main issues for non-promotion were prose and formatting that perhaps I could have helped with (even though I haven't seen the movie ... yet). Let me know if you plan renominating it anytime soon. Kannada literature, on the other hand, is a subject I am completely ignorant of, although I look forward to reading the article.
Incidentally, why don't you stand for adminship ? With your experience and demeanour, you would make an excellent candidate IMO. Abecedare (talk) 06:38, 16 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
Sure, I'll be happy to help with Mr and Mrs Iyer, but I'll make a start in a week or so. Will try to watch the movie in the meantime, i.e., before I read the spoilers in the plot section :-) Abecedare (talk) 06:48, 16 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Welcome Back

edit

Hi Dwaipan, I noticed you are back! Hope you will stay for a while. I too was away for a couple of months over the winter break. I'm trying to work on a number of British India related history pages, which I hope could get to FAC in the next few months. (You'll remember our discussions on the Independence movement last summer on Talk:India).

Well, speaking of those page, I'm experiencing a lot of opposition from a new user, user:Desione, who is making unhelpful edits and preventing further development. He first appeared on February 14 on British Raj, a page I have been editing since October 2006. His talk page diatribes are full of words like "evil" etc. He has made a few edits, but his writing is so poor and the citations so unreliable (here is an example), that I don't know how to proceed. Upon my return to Wikipedia in March after a longish winter break, I made my first edit in Indian Rebellion of 1857, since it is a parent article of one of British Raj's sections. The very next day, he appeared for the first time on that page. He has since had that page locked down a few times, because he insisted on having the Hindi "script" accompany the title etc. etc. (along with another user, user:DemolitionMan, who is currently the subject of a topic ban discussion on ANI). Then, when I went back to editing the Raj page (during one of "Indian Rebellion"'s lockdowns), and subsequently began to work on another section, he appeared on the parent article of that section, Company rule in India, for the first time, and has been confronting me there. Here is my last version of the page and here is what he has been reverting to. Compare the writing. Compare the quality of the references. And I am being accused of POV. I am just very frustrated. It seems like it is one step forward and three steps back each time I try to edit these pages. And now he has gone on the Indian history portal recommending these articles (which are still in development) for POV checks. Any advice? Fowler&fowler«Talk» 07:17, 16 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the advice. He seems to have backed off for now. Have my fingers crossed. Fowler&fowler«Talk» 22:32, 16 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Boy! That came from nowhere! Thank you for the wonderful gesture! There's nothing more satisfying for me to see more and more Indian cinema articles reach further up on quality. It is always a pleasure to have people like you who collaborate once in a while and notice my contributions. Btw, I strongly think Rang De Basanti has an excellent chance to go further up. Despite my efforts on it during the last week, I still feel that the article can be more comprehensive and of course a good copyedit will do wonders. Anyways, thanks again. I am getting the belief off Wikipedia

edit

Hello, i am really shocked that how much misleading Wikipedia can be, though i know about it flaws, i never realised that how a FA can be misleading, which has been monitored closely. The article is very close to my heart and i suppose urs too, its West Bengal. Today i thought of updating some old facts but i found some of the figures are wrong, i have corrected some of them. I would like u to give a crosscheck on the figures in the article. I think we can request it at RTFA on May 1. --Amartyabag TALK2ME 12:18, 29 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

RTFA is Wikipedia:Today's featured article/requests. Yes we need to be strict in monitoring the article. I think some modification is needed to the article, i was thinking of creating a new section named Infrastructure though much of it can be incorporated in the existing sections itself. The following can be incorporated if u like, though it seems like against the WP:SS policy.
  • West Bengal's health facility consist of 429 hospitals and 9393 health centers.
  • Road density of 103.69 km per 100 sq km.
  • Number of primary, high school, engineering colleges.
  • Power production capacity
  • communication infrastructure: No. of telephone and mobile users.
  • HDI rank

This can make a good read. [2]

Amartyabag TALK2ME 05:12, 30 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

However i am feelin lucky, the google shows the article at the top, higher than the govt site have a look. [3] Amartyabag TALK2ME 05:22, 30 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
For the RTFA i will also go for Satyajit Ray on 2nd May. Hav a look at the article for any correction if needded. --Amartyabag TALK2ME 05:31, 30 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
