Just FYI edit

The idea that a navbox could be padded with a bunch of actor bio articles to make it seem less empty isn't a rationale to use at TfD, since such a navbox is pretty much "forbidden" (i.e. navboxes that do that get deleted all the time, by longstanding precedent; there are some up for TfD right now, I think from the 18th or 19th, maybe the 20th of this month.) Just so ya know. :-) The reason for this is that if this were permitted, then any very-notable actor, director, screenwriter, whatever, would easily end up with 50+ navboxes on their article, one for each notable production. D'oh. PS: This is in ref. to the TfD on the Avatar navbox, which I see was kept on other grounds, in case you're wondering which left field this popped out of. — SMcCandlish Talk⇒ ʕ(Õلō Contribs. 21:44, 26 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Reg Removal of my edit in Avatar edit

Hello there

I see that you have removed my edit stating that the reviews are just user opinions. I had just added links to the reviews of a movie discussion board (http://clapsandboos.com/movies/4b3e4c313185506d0b000001) which has professional reviewers as well and there is a separate score for them. This works more or less on the lines of "Rotten Tomatoes".

There are two scores to every movie - a "loudmouth score" and a "popular score" - you can see them to the left of every movie. The website has hired a set of professional critics and the "loudmouth score" is a weighted average for that. All reviews in the system have been published only after moderation after evaluating the content against a set of guidelines. Hence, no abusive, biased or nonsensical reviews would be let in and the ""popular score" is a weighted average of all common users. Furthermore, to write a review one has to login using the "Open Id" method and the website moderators team penalize the nonsense writers by banning them for good. Pls let me know if I can re-add them. Movie Buff (talk) 00:16, 28 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

I was simply concerned about WP:RS in this case. If what you say is true then we could probably evaluate this as a reliable source. Please post the request on the film's talk-page and we can get a consensus/opinions from everyone on it. DrNegative (talk) 00:20, 28 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
On second thought after looking carefully at the source I have concluded that it is not a reliable source. I'm assuming good-faith here but it sounds as if you are trying to use the article's hitcount to promote the website. If you wish to object to this please post on the film's talk-page. DrNegative (talk) 02:20, 28 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
I understand what you are saying. The website was launched only recently and the idea behind was to build something on the lines of "Rotten Tomatoes", but at a more World Cinema level and it will definitely take time to get there. As of now there are a bunch of Professional writers who write for print media and there is the option for users to write their own reviews upon registration and like I said before, every review goes through moderation for content. If you want you can write a test review and check it for yourself. I am fairly new to Wikipedia and hence I am not entirely sure if this fits in to the rules here. And, when I posted that in the article, my intention was to only underline the "universal" reach the movie has. I don't have more to say and will leave it to you to make the call since you had removed my edit. Thanks! Movie Buff (talk) 15:29, 28 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thanks... edit

...for the award, DrNegative. But, frankly, as I said a few times earlier, I am just learning many things, including civility and amity, from you and other guys on that discussion - and still have a long way to go. So I take the star to mean that you are good teachers. :) Regards, Cinosaur (talk) 05:26, 28 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Another image for Themes in Avatar? edit

DrNegative, thank you again for the war image. Have you got by chance a screenshot with a bulldozer destroying the Tree of Voices for "Technology vs. culture and environment"? Regards, Cinosaur (talk) 14:43, 19 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Sure I'll find you one. DrNegative (talk) 17:46, 19 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
THanks. Do you think we could somehow use thi image under fair use for Parallels with Hinduism? It is exactly what we need to illustrate the point. I am not completely happy with the cartoon-like image of Krishna we currently have. Cinosaur (talk) 13:24, 20 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
We could but we need written consent from the artist who drew it for this one. Even though it is more than likely copyrighted like the others, we are not sure if he released the image to the public for non-commercial use to qualify as fair-use. If the artist could consent to copyleft or release it to the public domain, you could use it. DrNegative (talk) 16:53, 20 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
Does it mean that the same image is published here under some sort of copyright agreement? Actually, I am pretty sure that the image is in public domain in India. Still, I wrote to the original site but never got a word in reply. Cinosaur (talk) 14:47, 23 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
That is the thing, I could be that the artist released it to the public domain, or he/she specifically gave that news website permission to publish it for their article. If you are sure that it is in the public domain, then I wouldn't see any problem in uploading and using it. DrNegative (talk) 18:39, 23 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

DrNegative, going through the list of proposed sources for Themes in Avatar I came upon the one you had suggested. Unfortunately, for the next month I will be traveling in a country where my internet access will be limited by a low-speed GPRS mobile connection that would not allow me to successfully watch video contents. Peer review for Themes in Avatar edit

Hi DrNegative. I thought you might want to have a look at this peer review. Regards, Cinosaur (talk) 05:42, 24 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

DrNegative, thank you for your peer review. I will be grateful if you give me hints at how you see the proposed expansion of the lead section and the Pantheism section. As for the love theme, all I have is this:
Do you think it's enough for a fair treatment of the theme? Do you have any other sources? And (pardon me for asking) would you consider coming up with a writeup? Besides, we will have to figure out how to plug that would-be theme into the article. Ssilvers and I decided to walk away as much as possible from tiny subsections of one-two paragraphs. One approach could be to revive the Human dreams and guilt subsection of Social and cultural themes under a new heading, such as Human nature, and combine themes on human aspirations, dreams, collective guilt and the love story there. What do you think? Regards, Cinosaur (talk) 10:09, 25 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
Your ideas are sound. When I get a chance I will take a look at the sources, sandbox it, and see what I can come up with. DrNegative (talk) 13:19, 25 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. I will wait for your subsection before submissing the article for GAN. Cinosaur (talk) 15:27, 25 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Reviewer granted edit

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. The Rambling Man (talk) 17:21, 15 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

A tag has been placed on Template:Themes in Avatar (2009 film) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Letmeinbluracover.jpg edit

Thank you for uploading File:Letmeinbluracover.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. J Milburn (talk) 13:35, 5 April 2011 (UTC)Reply
