Strip Clubs, Pot in Portland

The fact that Portland has more strip clubs and porno theaters per capita than any other city in the country is very notable, as it brings in millions of dollars per year via sex tourism. The nudity laws in Portland are far more lax than in most other cities. In many strip clubs, women dance completely naked -- which is something they are not allowed to do in most other places. The only pair of clothing they are regulated to wear is a pair of shoes!

First, please do not leave notes on my user page but on my talk instead. This is policy: if an addition does not detract (even if it doesn't necessarily improve) you should not revert it. There is nothing about the see note link that detracts. Ashley's suggestions introduced ambiguity and appeared to undermine the validity of the numbers themselves whereas the compromise doesn't. I appreciate you want to defend the integrity of the infoboxes but I don't see how this creates problems. The fact that it is partially re-populating is wonderful news but doesn't alter things; and in a city where 60-odd % are renters I'd bet a few bucks there will be a significant drop in the medium-term.

Clap, clap incidentally for reverting yourself. Most people leave in a huff when they don't have consensus so it was big of you. Yes, it's better than "currently, mostly" and yes it's more or less temporary. "Medium-term temporary" I'd say. I believe the U.S. census bureau releases estimates June 30 every year. City infoboxes

I noticed that you were using a infobox format that includes a skyline image. Since this format seems to be gaining popularity, I was thinking of making a template for it and tweak the appearance to make it similar to template:Infobox City. Any thoughts on this? • There is a minor problem with the infobox you are using, notably the coordinates. The region that it is using is GR (in Europe) when it should be US. Your paragraph looks like a mess to decode. A list is EASIER to read, and has more functionality, than a jumbled paragraph. And if you would consult your English textbook it will tell you so. It will tell you that if you have more than three items a list can make it easier for the reader to decode and decipher the information. Also, if you have more than three cities and states and/or countries in a paragraph you use a SEMICOLON ";" between entries. You say a list is "ugly", that is YOUR opinion, and it may not be everybody else’s. And you should not assume so. Just because "MOST" have it one way does not make it better, you may have made them that way. At one time MOST people of black skin and African-American decent were slaves in the United States, that didn't make it right, did it? WikiDon 20:14, 2 November 2005 (UTC)

Lists are useful because they emphasize certain information in regular text. When you see a list of three or four items strung out vertically on the page, rather than in normal paragraph format, you naturally notice it more and are likely to pay more attention to it. Certain types of lists also make for easier reading. For example, in instructions, it is a big help for each step to be numbered and separate from the preceding or following steps. Wikipedia has over 10,000 articles with “sister cities” in it Google search “site:en.wikipedia.org "sister cities"” 15,500 hits.

YOU MAYBE IN LUCK, Yahoo! only finds 1,740! [1], so maybe you have only 1,500 to look at, and 1,200 to redo.

More of these are LISTS than in paragraph form.

Istanbul has 26 sister cities, what a NIGHTMARE that would be to read in paragraph form! Yerevan has 24.

Sir, if I made claims that were falsehoods, I would expect to called on them by another user/contributor (s) here at Wikipedia. All information that is distributed by contributors is, and should be, questioned. If you say that a zebra has spots, don't be surprised if someone questions you about it. If you don't want to be questioned, don't say things that you can't back up. If I said in an edit summary that: "MOST of states list their cities and towns in order of population", I would expect to hear from someone that MOST are listed alphabetically. And then, after I was called on it by another contributor, I repeated the claim, I would expect someone to “fall” on me with a rebuttal. Do NOT remove my statistical proof, that "I" took the time to research, that PROVES you made a misstatement, just because you take it personally. If you have a problem, you take it to Wikipedia:Resolving disputes. Once again you have made up your own rules to suit your cause. Follow the real policy of Wikipedia, not Derek.cashman’s policy. Thanks. I realized I was at my third revert, so that's why I didn't revert again. I think 68.9.138.84 went a bit over the line with a few comments in reverting his text; e.g. "Fuck off, deuce bag. I am telling you, I made this from scratch." and "Damn you, you son of a bitch, leave this page alone." don't necessarily tell me that he's trying to work as a team here,... I agree, his comments are completely out of line. Im going over the article now looking for the good bits he did add (i personally like the statistic on total bagels produced, although i dont think how high it would stack belongs in an encyclopedia). Hey, I actually deliberately removed the Corporate History section during middle of the revert war, but the removal was quite purposeful: it was lifted verbatim from http://www.brueggers.com/founder.html and is therefore a copyright violation, so I went ahead and removed it per WP:C. ArbCom election

Thanks for your vote in the ArbCom elections. I must have written my candidate statement in a confusing way in order to give you the impression that I am a candidate for a job that I do not want, because this is certainly not the case. As my "reluctance to run" seems to have weighed heavier in your mind than in mine, I just want to give you a slightly fuller explanation (I wanted to keep to 250 words in the opening statement). The reluctance was, as I said, because ArbCom is likely to be an arduous duty and will take away from the time I'm able to spend writing articles. It isn't because I am in any way equivocal about wanting to serve on ArbCom. I enjoy the practice of weighing the evidence and trying to reach consensus, and feel that serving on ArbCom I would be making a very positive contribution to Wikipedia. It occurs, however, that your reference to this may be a polite way of hiding a serious objection concerning how I might behave on ArbCom, and if this is so then I apologise for taking your time. I have never made a concerted effort to block somone, so I wonder if we could maybe get admin help. Maybe ask User:Vaoverland since he's an admin and he cares about the integrity of the RVA article. The site ABQblogs.com is a metro blog site for the people of Albquerque, New Mexico. We allow citizens to post blogs only after the administrators have reviewed the blog to determine it is a true post and not simply blog spam. We also quickly delete any comments that we feel are not genuine, especially those left by unnamed guests. State tourism link

Regarding your recent edits and comments (rm state tourism website from external links. That should be on the article about Virginia, not Richmond.). I am all for tourism but I agree strongly with your point. I applaud you doing something about it, at least in that single article. Unfortunately, I think someone or something (bot?) added that link to dozens (or more) articles on subjects of a local nature in Virginia. Your bot needs to be seriously worked on because it is tagging images that are legitimate and fair-use. The Norfolk Seal image is a city-owned seal of the City of Norfolk, Virginia, which is owned by the city itself, and is public property. The image is also appropriately marked with an image copyright tag, as per wikipedia guidelines, and in fact, was tagged appropriately when this stupid bot found the image!! Furthermore, it's interesting to point out that I have yet to see anyone complaining about any of the city seal images placed on other city pages, either!!

Your bot also appears to have tagged Image:Ky_unbridled.jpg, which I also uploaded. Unfortunately, I did not hear about this until after it was deleted. However, this image, like the city of Norfolk logo, is the current marketing logo of the state of Kentucky (it's on their website), and as such, is public property. The bot claims that there was no copyright tag in the image, which I beg to differ, as I am always very careful about selecting the correct image copyright tag for all of the images that I upload. In this case, the copyright tag used should be the same one (or very similar one) to the one used by the city of Norfolk seal.

I think it would be highly advisable if you would please discontinue the use of this bot until issues such as this can be resolved. Dr. Cash 19:29, 23 March 2006 (UTC)

Coulter "Biography"

Derek -- You recently reverted "Early life" to "Biography." The change to "Early life" had been on Talk:Ann Coulter#"Biography," etc. for two days, with no discussion, so I changed it. It still makes sense, I think. If you look at it and still prefer "Biography," that's fine by me, but I think "Early life" is more descriptive. Ok so its not vandalism, but the bot was still quite accurate at seeing that you were removing content in a way that merits a revert. You probably intended to undo what Tuxide did, but insted you undid it to a version that was damaged by a bug in the google toolbar. Just be more careful about what versions you revert to. It is fine, the bot picked you up because you were reverting to one of my really bad edits and I didn't realize that. Hi, if you read the instructions on the copyvio tag you would take notice that furhter edits of that page is prohibited, because it is a direct copyright violation there is no way it can be revamped unless it is started up again from scratch. Wal-Mart and minor edits

I noticed that most, or all of your edits to Wal-Mart are marked as minor edits. Why? Only trivial edits should be marked as minor, and even then only on pages without any content disputes. I would not consider a lot of these edits as minor. Just thought I would bring it up, since registered people have the option to opt-out displaying minor edits in their edit history listings and their watchlists, so to them it is a major problem. Wal-Mart photo

First off, that caption on my user page was supposed to be tongue-in-cheek. Anyway, I was about to write a paragraph about their practices of opening larger stores and was looking for some sources to back me up, but other things intervened and I sort of forgot about it until the photo was deleted later that day. (Wal-Mart does have a tendency to replace stores in that fashion more often than other chains, which would be a key point of the paragraph.) I'll admit the quality isn't as great as the other photos on the page, though. (By the way, I don't live in Bathurst, but took the photo while passing through.) We have a partial list of articles that are within the scope of this project, and as of now, no category killers such as Best Buy are included. This reference was removed because it was not directly referencing anything in the text (it was out-of-format). Links to articles in the reference section need to follow the guidelines specified under WP:REF. Adding external links directly to that section is bad form, and links there are generally deleted. • The consensus of editors at Wikipedia who have determined that "Wikipedia is not a crystal ball" is policy here seem to "give a frack," so I'm inclined to side with them. Just thought I would let you know that the {{content}} template is there to prevent editors from warring over the inclusion of the ReclaimDemocracy.org url like we have been, and is a temporary resolution that I suggested until consensus has been reached on this. I am personally against its presence; however I would rather the template be there instead of continuously remove the link myself only to have it reinserted. Also, I am considering going to WP:WQA to request an outside source on whether the link merits inclusion in the Wal-Mart article, since consensus obviously cannot be reached with those currently involved in the discussion.
