- Hi, there are at least two sources that are independent of the subject of this page, one is a notice in the Guardian of the award of OBE which was conferred on the subject by HM Queen in 2015, and the second is a UK Government data record of a parliamentary election of 2015 in which the subject stood. The third source is by Reuters reporting on a case in the British High Court that the subject was involved in. Please can this be looked at again as the sources are substantial and are not passing references. Many thanks Decentered-Media (talk) 17:53, 30 November 2023 (UTC)

editHello Decentered-Media. The nature of your edits, such as the one you made to Draft:Dr Matthew O'Callaghan OBE, gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.
Paid advocates are strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.
Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Decentered-Media. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Decentered-Media|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}
. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. DoubleGrazing (talk) 19:44, 30 November 2023 (UTC)
- Hi, I have no financial connection with the subject of this post, I have been asked to add the page as a former colleague, but I have nothing to gain from promoting this person, other than to acknowledge their social achievements. I'm not sure what other information I can provide, in addition to their conformation of receipt of an Royal Honour, if the page is approved, I can add updated information that builds on this information. Decentered-Media (talk) 19:55, 30 November 2023 (UTC)
- Okay, thanks.
- Can you elaborate on
"I have been asked to add the page as a former colleague"
? Asked by who? As a former colleague of whom? -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 20:35, 30 November 2023 (UTC)- Thanks, as a former colleague of Dr O'Callaghan, he is retiring soon, and I was asked by a group of his former colleagues to develop a biography of his work and professional experience to mark the significance of his work, which I want to develop in detail on the basis that he has played an important role in supporting the social and economic development in his area, such as securing legal recognition for the Melton Mowbray Pork Pie and Stilton Cheese, which are now world-famous foods, which Dr O'Callaghan played a crucial role in securing their legal protections. I don't have any business or personal links with Dr O'Callaghan other than being a former colleague. Decentered-Media (talk) 20:42, 30 November 2023 (UTC)
- Understood. In that case, please make a generic conflict-of-interest declaration. I will post instructions below. Thanks, -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 21:46, 30 November 2023 (UTC)

Managing a conflict of interest
editHello, Decentered-Media. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization, clients, or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{edit COI}} template);
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest § How to disclose a COI);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam § External link spamming);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.
Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. DoubleGrazing (talk) 21:46, 30 November 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks, I understand this declaration and will accord by its terms, and will follow all guidance and expectations that maintain the standards and practices of Wikipedia. Decentered-Media (talk) 09:38, 2 December 2023 (UTC)
