Hi Christopher edit

So, I've sent a message to our Ambassador, added your user page to my watchlist and am now visiting your talk page to introduce myself. I have no idea what I'm doing, so I'm fairly impressed with my newly acquired Wikipedia editing abilities. I'm trying not to let it go to my head. Have you edited Wikipedia articles previously?

I took a look at your class introduction. A M.Sc. and a Ph.D in chemistry, wow! That is awesome and much more impressive than my lowly BS in Biology. That's really cool you're pursuing the BioInformatics degree. All of the bioinformaticians I have had the pleasure of working with have been awesome (N=3).

To give you some background on me, I initially used my degree as a research associate in a life science company's lab, switched pace and became a Clinical Research Associate for a CRO and then made the transition to "the dark side", aka sales and marketing. I currently work as the Director of Marketing for a protein biomarker testing lab. I live in Austin, TX, so I'm in CST time zone. Also, I am currently running on about 3 hours of sleep, so please excuse any typos and general insanity. If you are curious about anything else, please let me know.

I look forward to working with you the rest of the semester! Tmo32 (talk) 04:00, 13 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hi again Christopher. I hope your weekend is going well. I also hope you did (or will do) well on our first graded quiz.
This message is pointless, I'm just trying to get more practice on talk the pages.
Talk to you soon. Tmo32 (talk) 00:55, 17 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
Hi Tiffany, I hope you do well on the quiz, too. Sorry, I didn't understand that we had to respond to each other's posts on our page.
I will try and speed-up my Wiki assignments in the future so as not to inconvenience you.
Deacon C (talk) 20:00, 18 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
No worries, Christopher. Glad you're up and running. Tmo32 (talk) 22:15, 18 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
Hi Tiffany, thanks for clearing up the article confusion. I think I will make a couple more posts and then take the quiz.

Group Page 82C edit

Hi Christopher!
I edited our Group Page (82C) per the assignment this week. I don't know how much time I'll have this weekend as I'll be traveling, so I wanted to get it out of the way. I also added our group page to my watchlist, so I should get notifications when changes are made. Let me know if you catch something I didn't and I need to do some additional work/make any changes.
I hope your week is going well! Tmo32 (talk) 02:00, 21 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Minigene edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. This is a notice to inform you that a tag has been placed on Minigene requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, images, a rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. WWGB (talk) 05:21, 28 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

If you need a place to work on a page before it's ready for the big show, you should use User:Deacon C/Sandbox or something like that. WilyD 10:11, 28 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
Hello WilyD. The MiniGene page is part of a course DeaconC and I are enrolled in at JHU. Our task for the course is to work a stub article up to the status of a B-class or GA class article. We were given a list of pages to choose from and Minigene was our selection. Can the page be undeleted or should we build a new page with more substantial information about minigenes on one of our sandboxes and then publish that? I could not find the "contest the nomination" button on the link provided.
Thank you in advance for your help. Tmo32 (talk) 17:02, 28 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
In principle, you can stick it anywhere, but you'll get hassled a lot less in draft space. So I moved it to User:Deacon C/Minigene. A statement like "This page is being built for the JHU Biochemistry course assignment by TMO32 and Deacon C" isn't appropriate for a live article (and once a page is in the article space, you should expect other people to start messing around with it as well. As the page stands, it'd get deleted if there was a discussion, and I'd strongly recommend keeping it in draft space until it clearly meets the inclusion criterion set out here. After that, it's really your own preference as to where to place it. WilyD 12:18, 5 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hello edit

Hi Christopher,

I am one of your online ambassadors. I am around to help you out, You can contact me by email or on my talk page. Since I'm in Australia my timezone is quite different to yours. I have no special knowledge of molecular biology, but I am hoping that you can write so that I can understand it! I will take a look at MiniGene and get something in place again. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 10:57, 2 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

I have put this back as a pretty minimal stub with some errors for you to sort out. Be aware that by not doing this in a sandbox we probably won't get this into the did you know process with an appearance on the front page. So if you want this goal let me know and I will delete this again and you can go for the sandbox. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 11:05, 2 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Article Selection edit

Hi Christopher! I added my rationale for the article selection and attempted to combine our responses into one succinct group rationale on our group page. Please have a look and feel free to edit however you wish. Also, your graph didn't render correctly in your original post or in the group rationale when I attempted to copy and paste it. I'm not sure why or how to help, but wanted to make sure you were aware. Thanks and let me know if you have any questions. Tmo32 (talk) 20:34, 2 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Unit 7 edit

Not sure if you've added the group talk page to your watchlist yet, so I wanted to let you know I posted something there today, just in case. Tmo32 (talk) 17:16, 6 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Images edit

Hi Christopher,

You should be able to add images to your sandbox. Can you point me to the edit where you tried to add an image to your sandbox and it didn't work? That way, I can take a look and see what went wrong.

Neelix (talk) 21:35, 10 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Neelix. I don't know if you remember, but I am in the JHU Biochemistry class and we are working on assigned topics for our page. My sandbox is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Deacon_C/sandbox. I tried to upload an image, just for practice, but when I entered what I thought was the correct URL, it said it couldn't find it, hence my, "oh it must have to be an active page" comment. I will be the first to admit, I may have done it wrong. Also, is there a manual of style for pictures, sometimes they are loaded in the left bar and sometimes in the right bar. I have been going to pages I like and looking at the edit screen to figure out how they do this, but it is not always obvious to me.

Deacon C (talk) 22:32, 10 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hi Christopher,
Thank you for clarifying this issue. In the future, I will be quicker to respond to your messages if you either leave them on my talk page or ping me, either by linking to my username in the message or by placing a {{talkback}} template on my talk page. There is no need to include a url when adding an image to a page on Wikipedia. You may find this tutorial helpful in figuring out how to add images to articles. What do you mean by the left bar and right bar? In order to make an image align either to the left or to the right, include the word "right" or "left" between | | in the image code. You also mentioned on my talk page that you intend to create an infobox for the Minigene article. Have you done so yet? Please let me know if you have any related questions. On a separate note, it is standard practice on Wikipedia to indent talk page comments only one indent (ie. colon) more than the previous message. If you want your signature to be indented as much as your message, the same number of colons need to be included in front of the signature as in front of the message. I hope this helps!
Neelix (talk) 20:33, 13 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
Hi Christopher,
This help page should provide you with more information on how to create a template. Template code can get complicated, so you may wish to copy and paste the code from an existing template into a new template page and then make the relevant alterations. In order to do so, select an infobox that is similar to the one you want to create and then copy all of the source text into a new page called Template:X where X is replaced by a word or phrase that best describes the type of infobox you are creating. Don't hesitate to contact me again if you would like further guidance or clarification.
Neelix (talk) 13:51, 15 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
Hi Christopher,
It is good to hear that the infobox worked out for you. So long as the new article you create is substantially different from the one that was deleted and you have addressed the previously expressed concerns, you should have no problems. The article will still be eligible for deletion, as all articles are, but the article won't be deleted automatically simply because another article that previously existed at that title was deleted.
Neelix (talk) 02:04, 19 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
Hi Christopher,
I have contested the speedy deletion of the template. If someone still objects to the template you have created, they will have to start a deletion discussion. Feel free to notify me if this happens.
Neelix (talk) 02:02, 22 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
Hi Christopher,
Underlying lk, the user who contacted you below, was the user who nominated the template for deletion. You responded by writing an explanation of why the template should not be deleted on the template's talk page, which was exactly the right thing to do in the circumstances. Any user can nominate a page for deletion; that doesn't necessarily mean that the page will be deleted or should be deleted, but just that one user thought it should be deleted. That one user is just like you, and doesn't represent Wikipedia to any greater extent than you do. Let me know if you have any more questions! I hope this helps.
