Thanks!
editLooks like you are doing good work putting Arabic tags on the articles of female computer scientists! I was amused to glance at your edit list and see Radia Perlman on there - I've met her, my wife works with her on Internet standards work. Anyways, thought I would try to send some encouragement your way... Brianyoumans (talk) 21:39, 11 September 2012 (UTC)
Thank you. It is really nice of you. I will keep mention that to my friends. --DamascusGirlGeeks (talk) 23:15, 21 September 2012 (UTC)

editThank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. I noticed your recent edit to We Can Do It! does not have an edit summary. Please provide one before saving your changes to an article, as the summaries are quite helpful to people browsing an article's history. Thanks! -- Trevj (talk) 04:58, 12 September 2012 (UTC)
Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, "DamascusGirlGeeks", may not meet Wikipedia's username policy because it appears to be the name of an organisation. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. As an alternative, you may ask for a change of username, or you may simply create a new account for editing. Thank you. -- Trevj (talk) 05:02, 12 September 2012 (UTC)
A group of girls ( not organisation ) is collaboratively translating some articles of their mutual interest. We thought of providing the translated articles to the Arabic wikipedia. Wikipedia is blocked in Syria and it is not possible for the girls to publish their work using separate usernames. The only addition we do to the english wikipedia is the linking between the articles in English and Arabic. Do you recomend not to do so. Thank you --DamascusGirlGeeks (talk) 23:11, 21 September 2012 (UTC)
- Your work is certainly appreciated. Keep going with it. I do however feel obliged to say that you should make this account personal, since our policies do not allow accounts that are representative of groups. The next time you log in, visit WP:CHUS and have your account renamed. Then make sure there is only one operator of this account, after which there will be no more problems with the name. I apologize for making things difficult for you! Thank you for your service to this site. NTox · talk 00:26, 22 September 2012 (UTC)
- I think this is a special case. Since you're only doing interwiki links, the usual copyright rationale for the prevention of group names does not hold and I certainly have no desire to impede your efforts for a (quite minor) policy quibble. Thank you for your work and feel free to carry on. Danger! High voltage! 16:58, 27 September 2012 (UTC)
- I mean, I don't want to add to a controversy, but it's simple enough to change to a personalism. If it was difficult, maybe I would not have mentioned anything, but to have one member of the group add the links should be easy. But I don't know what the rules are for group accounts on the Arabic Wikipedia. In all, I don't mean to be categorically harsh and a mindless bureaucrat, but if we make constant exceptions for particular groups, we are being really unfair. Rest assured though I won't say anything more in this case - these users are being really helpful, so a part of me hates to even bring it up. Also note that the copyright rationale is an invented argument that doesn't have any formal basis - but I've been in touch with the WMF to try to get the legal perspective on this. Thank you for going to the trouble of tidying this issue up via WP:CHU. Keep up the good work! Cheers. -- Trevj (talk) 07:49, 29 September 2012 (UTC)
