I am working on an article about my father's colonial farm and am in need of guidance. I have put together some thoughts in a sandbox here, but would like some input... Would anyone be interested in assisting me? D R Geddy-Lamb (talk) 20:27, 21 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi! I am curious. Is your father's property the one known as "Whitehall" on the NRHP (#07000234)? I might suggest you look at both WikiProject National Register of Historic Places and the list, National Register of Historic Places listings in Virginia. It will give you a chance to see some things about how to write an article on a NRHP site and some articles to give you examples. Another suggestion: If you look on the talk pages of any article on a NRHP site, you will see a quality rating. Stub is the minimum article, featured is the best ones. White Hall

edit

An NRHP infobox is available from http://www2.elkman.net/nrhp/infobox.php. The site name is "White Hall," its reference number is refnum = 07000234, and its date of listing is March 30, 2007. If you need more help, I can put it on your sandbox page or give more instructions. KudzuVine (talk) 00:14, 22 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi D R Geddy-Lamb. I've added an infobox, image, and some published sources to reference your article draft at User:D R Geddy-Lamb/sandbox. I've also formatted the structure of the article according to the Wikipedia Manual of Style. Before it could be moved into article space, it will need a fair amount of copyediting to make sure it conforms to encyclopedic style, and our requirement of no original research. Basically, that means we can't include personal commentary and reminiscenses unless than have already been published in books or newspapers. I'd be happy to help you with this and then move it into article space for you. Just let me know. You can answer here. I'll keep your talk page on my Watchlist, so I'll see your reply. Hi, I also edited the sandbox, adding to the infobox and providing an inline reference for the NRHP nomination document that you already used as a source. I think it would be fine for you to move it to mainspace and for editing to continue there. Or for you to edit more and then move it. I happen to prefer to get my stuff out into mainspace, fearing that if i leave it in a sandbox it might never get fully polished and posted. Nice work with the article! P.S. To move the article, just find the "Move" command next to the "Edit" tab, perhaps under a pulldown menu tab, and when the Move page opens, enter the name of the article, which should be "White Hall (Toano, Virginia)". Cheers, --doncram 16:08, 24 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
I've moved it into article space and done some basic copyediting. I'm sure other editors will come along and help polish it up further. Congratulations on your first Wikipedia article, D R Geddy-Lamb! You'll find it at White Hall (Toano, Virginia). Best wishes, Voceditenore (talk) 18:16, 24 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
