Pichenotte nominated for deletion

Pichenotte has been nominated for deletion. This is a one- to two-week process during which people comment at the deletion site, and then an Administrator makes a decision. The article can be worked on during the process. The weakness of the article is no references. Do you have citations/references that qualify as reliable sources, i.e., published? I recommend you put on your User page your relationship to Pichenotte and then add references to the existing article. This is more important than adding more content (your Sandbox content). Actually, my suggestion is add references directly to the article, as lack of references is the primary reason a deletion has been proposed. You can also comment at the deletion process. As for content, the proper place to propose new content is the Talk page of the article; all that is needed on your User page is a description of the nature of your connection to the game. ThreeVictorsSMcCandlish MMMMM... No. To save the article about square Pichenotte, what is needed, at a minimum, is referencing to three articles about that game. You are proposing instead a radical change to the article, which much of your proposed content and proposed references not relevant: Who you know, Any mention of Crokinole, Your trademark, Museums, Any mention of the round game version, All those images (refs 33-45). Given that you manufacture boards and have trademarked Pichenotte, any proposed content other than references needs to be placed on the article's Talk page. Yeah, a couple of us have been looking this over. There is reasonable stuff in here, but the problem is that people want to delete the article for lack of substantial coverage in independent reliable sources. I think that is mostly going to resolve to books (as in paper) about games, because things like Internet news sites and online academic journals are not likely to cover this subject. I think a fairly probable result is that Pichenotte, Pitchnut, and Crokinole will end up merged into a single article, since separating them cleanly as subject is an iffy proposition. Especially given more modern development since them (pichenotte football, etc.) I was already aware of those, and see that your draft suggestions have included mentioning them. Anyway, at WP there's a maxim that "there is no deadline". So, if the extant article on pichenotte gets deleted after all, the good parts of it, the usable parts of what you've drafted, and additional material from new-found sources, can likely be used later in a merged article. Then again, it's also possible that the stand-alone articles are salvageable, but someone will likely have to go to a good library and pore over books about games, and about Quebec, Ontario, and NW US folk-ways, since these games are not recent and did not originate as commercial products.  — SMcCandlish ☏ ¢ 😼  02:22, 1 October 2020 (UTC)

SMcCandlish, thanks for the reply. Making the article to be inclusive of the many variations is an excellent idea in my opinion. What they have in common is flicking discs across a smooth surface. It would be great if someone can find written book material from the old days when the games were introduced. I think many have tried, but came up empty. But maybe there will be a breakthrough somewhere. Wayne Kelly's book seems to be the definitive Crokinole book and he told me, as he states in the book, that he traveled Canada extensively to find book sources, but came up surprisingly empty. The history of the different games is very much clouded by time, but I hope someone can find documented evidence of their histories. Lee Larcheveque is a good source for the pitchnut game. Wayne's son Caleb is a good source about crokinole. Peter Gagne at the Quebec Museum of Civilization has been trying to find sources about the origins of pichenotte, but nothing so far. I think combining the three into one article may be the best solution. To make an article that is inclusive of many variations is an excellent idea. Given the existence of https://www.pichenotte.com/ this is clearly more than a "hobby" (your word). See WP:PAID for restrictions. I strongly recommend that you first put the required PAID declaration on your User page and make no direct changes to the article other than adding references. Since WP isn't giving you enough problems already

You may have noticed by now that WP has many many (many) "rules". Now, I may have misunderstood, but is "ThreeVictors" the name of a company? If so, it is, you guessed it, against the rules, you can find this one at WP:CORPNAME. Something like "Dave at ThreeVictors" is fine if you want the companyname in there. Hi DVQuebec/ThreeVictors. It seems that you've changed your username per the above. Thank you for doing so; however, changing your username is kind of pointless if you're going to customize your signature and continue to sign your posts as ThreeVictors. Such a thing seems contrary to the spirit of WP:PROMONAME which is the reason you changed your username. Edit requests

Hi DVQuebec. The best way to request changes be made to an article for which you might have a conflict of interest is to follow the guidance given in Wikipedia:Edit requests. I saw the request you made at Talk:Pichenotte, but it wasn't really formatted correctly; so, I tried to fix that for you as Talk:Pichenotte#Edit request. Now, all you need to do is wait for someone to look through your request and figure out whether the changes you're suggesting are in accordance with relevant Wikipedia policies and guidelines.

For future reference though, it's generally not a good idea to try and propose either a complete rewriting or an article or lots of major changes in a single edit request. The editors who review such requests are WP:VOLUNTEERs who might not be able to sort through so many changes or such a major rewriting of the article like you're proposing. It's generally better to keep your requests as simple and as easy to follow as you can; for example, "change X to Y in paragraph 2" or "add this citation to sentence 2 of paragraph 3 is Seciton XYZ". The more things you're requesting at once or the harder it is for the reviewer to figure out what you're requesting, the greater the chance that it's going to be skipped over, only partially answered, or declined outright. -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:30, 6 October 2020 (UTC)
