Hi. This is about this debate. I believe you should take a second look at the discussion. You don't seem to have interpreted the debate correctly. The discussion makes it clear that the article should be kept. A.Z. 01:04, 9 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Some things to think about edit

I have not seen you address this anywhere, so perhaps I have merely missed it, in which case please simply point me to where. However, it is possible you have not addressed this because no one has asked you, and you didn't think it appropriate to expound on an issue which is being, by and large, handled elsewhere, and in which it is possible your quickness to post without thinking things through may have caused harm already. I therefore ask you to consider the following:

It appears you may have been too zealous in your pursuit of wrongdoing to consider whether you yourself might be doing wrong by your handling of the situation. When it came to your attention, however it happened, that some edits had been oversighted on an account which had not been used in two years, did you consider that due to the very nature of oversight - as a way of removing that which is no one's business and can cause harm - that more harm than good could have come of a very public series of accusations of wrongdoing? Did you consider that the person in question has been stalked and harassed repeatedly, and that perhaps there were good reasons for the sock and for the oversight, of which you were unaware? Did you consider that by asking discreetly you could alert those in a position to investigate of your concerns without potentially causing more problems and grief? Now that some little time has passed, and you have had a chance to consider, do you think in the future you would still handle things the same way? I would hate to think that you see real life concerns of safety and privacy as secondary to minor infractions on Wikipedia.

I am also distressed by the way you presented this. "Caught red handed" could have easily been "area for possible concern" had you shown any restraint at all. It bears the appearance of preferring accusations over investigations, in a situation where you knew you did not know all. Even when an admin finds what appears to be wrongdoing in a newbie or a known troublemaker, the professional and gracious phrasing is preferred, rather than this phrasing which you used, which reads like yellow-tabloid "exposure" and damn the facts or who might be hurt.

I sincerely hope you have learned something from this incident, and you give careful consideration to how to handle future situations. I would appreciate a brief acknowledgement that this is so. KillerChihuahua?!? 12:08, 31 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

For what it's worth, I already got messages like this that I responded to, but they were in private. Considering your first paragraph, that might make more sense. --Cyde Weys 13:30, 31 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Does that mean you're planning to send me an email? KillerChihuahua?!? 11:22, 2 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
No, I don't really have anything to say that I haven't already said to others. --Cyde Weys 19:41, 2 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
Then would you please point me to where you have said those things, as I requested (perhaps you missed it) in the first sentence? KillerChihuahua?!? 09:58, 4 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
It was in private, like I suggested. --Cyde Weys 00:36, 5 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
But you're not planning to email me? I was not privy to that private conversation. KillerChihuahua?!? 06:38, 6 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

You can email me if you wish. --Cyde Weys 02:38, 9 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

I have already made my comments and asked my questions above. I see no reason to paste that into an email. Are you planning to answer me? KillerChihuahua?!? 03:09, 10 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
Honestly, no. I'm hella busy recently (barely any time for Wikipedia-related activities), and I this matter is over and done with. Everyone has already said what they felt needed to be said. --Cyde Weys 00:28, 12 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

CFR request edit

Could you please instruct the Cydebot to rename Category:House of Battenberg to Category:Battenberg family? It was not per a CFR, but rather per the WP:RM request at Talk:Battenberg family#Requested move I closed. Thanks. Duja 09:10, 14 September 2007 (UTC) Reply

Cydebot rename of Category:Members of the United States House of Representatives from Georgia edit

User:Cydebot recently renamed Category:Members of the United States House of Representatives from Georgia to Category:Members of the United States House of Representatives from Georgia (U.S. state). The rationale given in the history at List of United States Representatives from Georgia was the change was implemented in response to disambiguation concerns between Georgia (country) and Georgia (U.S. state) at WP:CFD. However, those CDF concerns were specific to a category on state highways in Georgia (U.S. state). Using the modifier U.S. state is only necessary when it is unclear whether the entity being referenced is the country or the U.S. state. I think this catetory should be renamed back to its original Category:Members of the United States House of Representatives from Georgia. The fact that the category includes United States House of Representatives means the parenthetical (U.S. state) is redundant. Is this something you could have Cydebot revert or should I make a new request at WP:CFD?Dcmacnut 04:36, 15 September 2007 (UTC) Reply

Attack sites edit

Remedies have been proposed at Wikipedia:Requests_for_arbitration/Attack_sites/Proposed_decision#Cyde_2 which relate to you. You are welcome to participate as appropriate in the arbitration. Fred Bauder 00:29, 22 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

I fail to see how the proposed remedy follows from the proposed finding of fact. I don't see how you can get "desysopping" from "In response to allegations by the banned user Wordbomb, who has been engaged in a lengthy campaign of harassment of SlimVirgin, a dialog was initiated by Cyde with respect to the allegations." Especially because, as I've repeatedly said, I never even dealt with WordBomb before, thus I didn't know who he was, and wasn't aware there was a connection between him and AntiSocialMedia.net anyway. --Cyde Weys 02:44, 22 September 2007 (UTC) Reply

Captain Sim page edit

Hi,

I wanted to make a page for Captain Sim, but noticed that there already was one but has been deleted several times in the past. I just want to know if it is OK for me to make a page or if it is not allowed. Thanks. Pash Master 06:21, 28 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

The deleted article is actually fairly high quality, so rather than rewriting it from scratch I would go to deletion review and argue to have it undeleted. My rationale would be that it did not meet the speedy criterion that it was deleted under, and that it should have at least deserved an Articles for deletion. --Cyde Weys 02:31, 29 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Too Fast Deletion of Category edit

What gives with the way too rapid deletion of the category "Northern California Weather"? There was no notice I'm aware of, and furthermore, why then does the category "Southern California Weather" remain? The same rationale should apply to both categories. People from Boston, Massachusetts edit

Cydebot is moving articles from the category "People from Boston" to "People from Boston, Massachusetts." But the new category is redlinked, and I was unable to follow the link and create a page. Image tagging edit

I had been tagging image with fair use rationale that seems to be invalid per WP:NFCC#10c - like this one. Am i right in tagging this? As far as i know, the header where the phrase Fair use rationale for (name of the article where the image is used) must contain the title of the article and the image description of this one doesn't follow. Wikimania 2008/Conference of the Americas edit

Hello, As you may or may not know, Alexandria, Egypt was selected to host Wikimania 2008 [1]. So as to prevent the hard work of the many Wikimedians involved in the Atlanta bid from going to waste, we have decided to host a conference for the Americas. This is in no way an attempt to compete with Wikimania or make a statement against Wikimania.

As one of the people signed up to help with the Wikimania Atlanta bid, we hope you will join us at the Wikimedia Conference of the Americas. We will be having a meeting tonight in IRC tonight (Oct 15) at 9:30PM in #cota-atlanta on irc.freenode.org to discuss the conference. For more information about IRC see [2].

For more information about the Wikimedia Conference of the Americas see http://www.cota-atlanta.org and our wiki http://www.cota-atlanta.org/wiki.

If you do not wish to receive further notices about the COTA please remove your name from our notify list. --Cspurrier 20:58, 15 October 2007 (UTC) Reply

Problem with re-name edit

Your bot's edit[3] and (the preceding renaming of the category) made an incorrect edit to the Trigun article. The renaming of the category assumes that all of the shows in that category are original programing of Adult Swim and/or Cartoon Network. This is not the case. I'll go ahead and remove the category from Trigun, but you may want to check all of the other articles that were affected by this renaming. I've posted the same concern to the Category's talk page. ++Arx Fortis 17:50, 24 October 2007 (UTC) Reply

Police Rugby League -Victoria edit

i need some help and some answers please.

The Victoria Vikings have a page that keeps being tagged for one thing or another and it is very annoying.

I don't want to get bogged down in wiki jargon and computer talk. In laymans terms, there is a good page written about a club/league that has played an integral role in certain aspects of rugby league in Australia. It deserves to be available for reading but various people keep wanting to interfere with it. At present it is tagged with a comment that it needs to be wikified. Not sure why, it was good enough for months so why the issue now? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.25.230.150 (talk) 23:39, 26 October 2007 (UTC) Reply

Need Help edit

Hello there, first off I'm really sorry to bother you, but I have a problem with another administraitor, the users name is: Can't sleep, clown will eat me

It started when some other kids were fooling around with Wikipedia at our school, and they eventually got us banned until March 2008 by Can't sleep, clown will eat me. On his message about all of the vandalism made by the vandals, he said that we should try to "create an account" but unfortunatly, Can't sleep, clown will eat me locked us from even making our own accounts! When we tried to tell him on his talk page, it wouldn't let us send him a message, I had to make this account, Weasel123, at my own house. We finally went to the last thing we could do, trying to appeal it on our own user page, but again, we were blocked. If you could tell Can't sleep, clown will eat me that when he ties to block peple, he should at least try to let us send him a message and tell him what happened tht would be really great.

CydeBot, The Legend of Zelda series characters edit

I'm trying to find the speedy CFD discussion that CydeBot used to move all of our pages to this new Category. I can't find that discussion or any mention of that discussion on the project page. I've tried looking up the editors that CydeBot lists as authors for that discussion, and they don't turn up any Zelda-related edits in the last few months.

Could you please have it reverse these edits, then? The move does not fit any of the guidelines for speedy renaming, and is in fact messier than what the guidelines suggest (i.e. "X in Y", or "Characters from The Legend of Zelda series", as we had it).

Thank you for time, and sorry to trouble you.Not even Mr. Lister's Koromon survived intact. 03:37, 20 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Why do you say town seals are not subject to copyright? Many town seals are, in fact, copyrighted. But ignoring that, if this seal isn't copyrighted, then it should not be tagged with {{seal}}, because that template is for tagging non-free images. --Cyde Weys 20:44, 29 December 2007 (UTC) Reply

Please provide examples of copyright town seals. I work in municipal government, and have never come across a town which had actually coprighted its seal (nor more than a handful of towns with a seal designed recently enough to qualify for copyright). I would be interested to research to see how towns are managing to do this, and the processes they went through. Sahasrahla (talk) 22:59, 1 January 2008 (UTC) Reply

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Arabcartoon.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Arabcartoon.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 05:25, 2 January 2008 (UTC) Reply
