WuhWuzDat 23:37, 31 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Wuhwuzdat, I appreciate the idea of giving new page, spam, and vandalism patrollers a day off. But I'm guessing that the 1st of April is a big day for vandalism on Wikipedia. So I'm not sure that would really be a good day for any of us to deliberately not be on the lookout for vandals. Thanks for the effort and idea, though! SPI

edit

Hi Cinchbug! You and HelloAnnyong are making reports simultaneously but to two different pages. Here's the other page. Truthkeeper88 (talk) 00:30, 26 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Ah, okay, that explains it. I just sent HA a note thanking him/her for fixing my report, since I thought that mine had been subsumed by HA's. I've never started an SPI before, so I'm afraid I'm not entirely familiar with the process. Thanks, TK. ;) • CinchBug • 00:34, 26 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
Neither have I, but HA started one some time ago and I have it watchlisted. Your comment to the article and the watched SPI both popped up at the same time, so I thought I'd let you know. Truthkeeper88 (talk) 00:42, 26 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
And I appreciate it--now I know...or, at least, now I know more than I used to! Thanks, • CinchBug • 00:52, 26 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
I've just noticed that List of International Baccalaureate people has been hit by the same IP. I'm never sure what to do about this situation—the entries have sources but clearly POV pushing. Btw - aren't you glad you popped in today? I've been happily working here for months without a single IB incident, but when it happens it's so unpleasant. Your Inappropriate Conduct on Wikipedia

edit

Beg pardon, please tell me how exactly my edit to the Ataturk page was unconstructive. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.225.248.206 (talk) 00:11, 10 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Your edit, which included a section that said "...did I mention that..", quite clearly appeared to be not constructive. • CinchBug • 00:18, 10 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
Are you being funny? That's not what I asked you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.225.248.206 (talk) 03:07, 10 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
No, no, nothing like that. If I were being funny, I would have said something like, "Okay, so a mathematician, a gibbon, and a penguin walk into a bar..." Regards, • CinchBug • 20:30, 14 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Revert to talk page

edit

Thanks for the revert. :) I only get these rarely, they're amusing to look at too. Regards, Nifky^ 12:44, 28 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hey, no problem at all! I've only been vandalized once (so far...), but I try to keep my eye out for it on other people's talk pages. And you're right, they can sometimes be pretty funny. ;) Regards, • CinchBug • 20:57, 28 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Good job

edit

I just wanna say you do a great job reverting vandalism. --Tommy2010 17:01, 9 May 2010 (UTC) Tommy2010 17:01, 9 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hey, thanks, and right back at 'ya! I've had the rollback tool since August or September, but I only just started using Huggle today, after watching you and many other Huggle users doing the job much more efficiently than I was. I almost can't believe how much faster it is. Regards, • CinchBug • 17:06, 9 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
Ha, yea, it is really fast. I saw it a few times on the recent changes and saw the hg page and kinda got addicted. Tommy2010 17:32, 9 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
It's pretty easy to get the hang of, especially since you're doing a good job. But if you got a question, don't be afraid to ask. Tommy2010 17:36, 9 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, I'm already addicted to it! Thanks, and thanks for the offer to help if I have any questions! • CinchBug • 17:38, 9 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
Just wait til night time and school hours for the little kids. ;) Tommy2010 17:46, 9 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
Lol, I can only imagine! • CinchBug • 17:47, 9 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Reversions of cited information removal

edit

I am reverting an apparently-homophobic person who is removing references to cited discussions of possible homosexuality in the American Revolution. Please stop reverting blindly. 129.101.58.79 (talk) 19:09, 9 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Just because I am editing through an IP doesn't mean I don't know what I'm doing. Read the edits in question instead of just hitting your friggin' revert button. Thanks. 129.101.58.79 (talk) 19:10, 9 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
On second thought, I did forget an edit summary on the last one, and I haven't forgotten how really mind-numbing it is to go through the firehose of crap vandalism and shite edits, so sorry for the minor snark in that second post. A retired admin. 129.101.58.79 (talk) 19:16, 9 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
No problem. This [1] was the first of your edits that I saw. Given the number of vandalism edits that revolve around calling someone gay or homosexual (heck, just over the last 20 minutes!), it certainly appeared to fit the bill. On my next pass through the article, however, I saw your edit summary and left your edit alone. Regards, • CinchBug • 19:25, 9 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Bridgettttttte

edit

Your vandal warning for the user Bridgettttttte was not 100% right, the user is the main author of the article and is very new. The person tried to blank the page after I put on a notability tag. This might be a form to avoid trouble, but not a real vandal.--Stone (talk) 21:37, 9 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Stone, okay, thanks for letting me know, I'll check it out. I do recall seeing Bridgettttttte making some good edits later (mostly to talk pages, as I recall) and left her/his edits alone when it looked like they were okay. But if I made a mistake, then I appreciate your letting me know. Thanks! Regards, • CinchBug • 21:46, 9 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Reviewer permission

edit

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

For the guideline on reviewing, see Wikipedia:Reviewing. Being granted reviewer rights doesn't change how you can edit articles even with pending changes. The general help page on pending changes can be found here, and the general policy for the trial can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 17:36, 1 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Okay, thanks, HJ. I've heard people in the Wiki community talk about doing this, but I wasn't aware that we were already in the testing phase. I'll read up on the policies! Regards, • CinchBug • 17:54, 1 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Please assume good faith when dealing with other editors. See Wikipedia:Assume good faith for the guidelines on this. - 68.171.235.163 (talk) 00:25, 15 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

IB again

edit

Hey Cinchbug - good to see you active. We have a discussion going on my talkpage and also here about rewriting the IB DP lead. The article has inexplicably been reviewed, and the lead needs work. I can't work on it this week, but feel free to join in. Also a discussion on TFOWR's talkpage here. Feel free to jump in! Truthkeeper88 (talk) 16:57, 6 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

WikiCup 2013 February newsletter

edit

Round 1 is now over. The top 64 scorers have progressed to round 2, where they have been randomly split into eight pools of eight. At the end of April, the top two from each pool, as well as the 16 highest scorers from those remaining, will progress to round 3. Commiserations to those eliminated; if you're interested in still being involved in the WikiCup, able and willing reviewers will always be needed, and if you're interested in getting involved with other collaborative projects, take a look at the WikiWomen's Month discussed below.

Round 1 saw 21 competitors with over 100 points, which is fantastic; that suggests that this year's competition is going to be highly competative. Our lower scores indicate this, too: A score of 19 was required to reach round 2, which was significantly higher than the 11 points required in 2012 and 8 points required in 2011. The score needed to reach round 3 will be higher, and may depend on pool groupings. In 2011, 41 points secured a round 3 place, while in 2012, 65 was needed. Our top three scorers in round 1 were:

  1.   Sturmvogel_66 (submissions), primarily for an array of warship GAs.
  2.   Miyagawa (submissions), primarily for an array of did you knows and good articles, some of which were awarded bonus points.
  3.   Casliber (submissions), due in no small part to Canis Minor, a featured article awarded a total of 340 points. A joint submission with   Keilana (submissions), this is the highest scoring single article yet submitted in this year's competition.

Other contributors of note include:

Featured topics have still played no part in this year's competition, but once again, a curious contribution has been offered by   The C of E (submissions): did you know that there is a Shit Brook in Shropshire? With April Fools' Day during the next round, there will probably be a good chance of more unusual articles...

March sees the WikiWomen's History Month, a series of collaborative efforts to aid the women's history WikiProject to coincide with Women's History Month and International Women's Day. A number of WikiCup participants have already started to take part. The project has a to-do list of articles needing work on the topic of women's history. Those interested in helping out with the project can find articles in need of attention there, or, alternatively, add articles to the list. Those interested in collaborating on articles on women's history are also welcome to use the WikiCup talk page to find others willing to lend a helping hand. Another collaboration currently running is an an effort from WikiCup participants to coordinate a number of Easter-themed did you know articles. Contributions are welcome!

A few final administrative issues. From now on, submission pages will need only a link to the article and a link to the nomination page, or, in the case of good article reviews, a link to the review only. See your submissions' page for details. This will hopefully make updating submission pages a little less tedious. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. ArbCom elections are now open!

edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
