Wikipedia NYC Meetup Sat Oct 16

New York City Meetup Next: Saturday October 16th, Jefferson Market Library in Lower Manhattan Last: 05/22/2010

In the afternoon, we will hold a session dedicated to meta:Wikimedia New York City activities, review the recent Wiki-Conference NYC 2010, plan for the next stages of projects like Wikipedia Ambassador Program and Wikipedia Academy, and hold salon-style group discussions on Wikipedia and the other Wikimedia projects (see the May meeting's minutes).

In the evening, we'll share dinner and chat at a local restaurant, and generally enjoy ourselves and kick back.

Nekrogoblikon....

Hello, my name is Alex Alereza and I play guitar for a band called Nekrogoblikon that has apparently been banned from this site. If I recall correctly, the we were banned due to too many articles being posted on us and because we didn't at the time merit enough recognition to be posted on this site. The reason there were so many articles was because we actually posted up on our Myspace page that the first person to create a wikipedia page for us would receive a free copy of our album. As a result, multiple entries were made and no single page was allowed to stay on.

In addition, since this time, we have become slightly more prominent: In 2009, we signed to a label called Creator-Destructor, a label run by Ben Murray, the drummer of Light This City (the band has a wikipedia page as well). In addition, we have performed with August Burns Red, Cattle Decapitation, Burning the Masses, MC Frontalot, The Minibosses, and other prominent acts since that time, and have been endorsed by Halo Guitars and The Mountain T-shirt company. Question about BrownBot

I noticed that BrownBot does monthly notifications of Newsletters for a couple of different projects. I am getting WikiProject United States going again and I would like to start using your bot too. What do I need to do to set that up? --Kumioko (talk) 14:26, 4 November 2010 (UTC)

Google has actually donated in the past, but they're all free to donate just as everyone else is. Our information is free for anyone to use, so they're free to link to us as they wish. :-) Linking/referring us actually is supporting us too, when you think about it. NYC Meetup: Saturday, December 4

We meet outside by the trees at 5:00 PM.

Our next Wikipedia NYC Meetup is this weekend on Saturday Dec 4 at Brooklyn Museum during their awesome First Saturdays program, starting at 5 PM.

A particular highlight for the wiki crowd will be 'Seductive Subversion: Women Pop Artists, 1958–1968', and the accompanying "WikiPop" project, with specially-created Wikipedia articles on the artists displayed on iPads in the gallery.

This will be a museum touring and partying meetup, so no excuses about being a shy newbie this time. Bring a friend too!
