Hello Canestrari! Your additions to KB Ballentine have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Please see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, please ask them here on this page, or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you. Hut 8.5 19:07, 7 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of KB Ballentine

edit

The article KB Ballentine has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No indication that either WP:BIO or WP:CREATIVE are satisfied.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. SmartSE (talk) 10:43, 8 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Author here: I am trying to get this done correctly. Certainly both the BIO and CREATIVE aspects of a poet's work who is published and well-known should be adequate to prevent deletion altogether. I'd really like to get this right.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Canestrari (talkcontribs) 20:50, 8 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hi appreciate you are trying, but unfortunately there are still no reliable sources providing any independent coverage and this is what we need. Merely being a published poet is not sufficient to merit being included in Wikipedia. Additionally, per the note below, please disclose if you have a conflict of interest. SmartSE (talk) 17:08, 13 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
That's a shame. It appears you've already made your decision. All I can do on my end is compile credible sources. They are all independent. I wanted to get the article going so others could contribute. I will wait until someone else who I don't know and is unfamiliar with her work will take on this mantle.
I had no idea that one person could cancel an article arbitrarily. Well, I know now. Canestrari (talk) 19:55, 13 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Managing a conflict of interest

edit

Hello, Canestrari. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page KB Ballentine, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. SmartSE (talk) 16:57, 13 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

The only editing that i have done so far is for clarification and to make precise citations. Canestrari (talk) 17:53, 13 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
You seem to be confused - the problem isn't that you uploaded the photo, but that you appear to have a close connection with the subject that you have not disclosed. If you do have a conflict of interest, then it is strongly recommended that you do not edit the article directly. SmartSE (talk) 19:35, 13 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
I do know this person. I'm a fan of her work. I will try to find someone who either doesn't know them or me to do the edits. And they can't be professional editors. Do you recommend anything else that would prevent an editor like yourself from putting this kind of work on notice? Would it be better, for instance, to not disclose their gender? I removed the photo and will have someone else put one up there. I'm working to get other contributors to the page, but i need the page to be there in order to do that. She is a notable poet. She is producing a lot of work. Canestrari (talk) 17:51, 13 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of User:Canestrari

edit

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. A tag has been placed on User:Canestrari requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section U5 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to consist of writings, information, discussions, or activities not closely related to Wikipedia's goals. Please note that Wikipedia is not a free web hosting service. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Deletion done by AI robot. This is the rot that Wikipedia has become. Canestrari (talk) 14:42, 22 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Contested deletion

edit

This page should not be speedily deleted because the materials were still being collected. As a poet, her presence was certainly as "notable" as many other living poets at this time.

File permission problem with File:Picture of Nickajack Cave from Sunset Kayak Tour.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Picture of Nickajack Cave from Sunset Kayak Tour.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{permission pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. Here is a list of your uploads. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Estopedist1 (talk) 19:15, 5 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

I sent the letter with owner permission to the permissions email. Are you AI or a real person? Please advise immediately. Canestrari (talk) 14:39, 22 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

I periodically update the Wiki page for New Hope and wanted to add a photo on the page from your kayak trip to Nickajack Cave.  A reference has been made on the Wiki page that you operate this tour and wanted to include a colorful photo with it.  All I need is your permission to use one of the photos you publish already on your website.  Thank you in advance.
