Photo requests

I have an idea. Do you do take photographs of buildings, signs, etc. in the New York City area? WhisperToMe (talk) 02:17, 3 June 2015 (UTC)

@WhisperToMe: ALL the time. And I upload to flickr with 3.0 cc licensing. Do you need images of something specific? BrillLyle (talk) 02:20, 3 June 2015 (UTC)
Yes, I do have some specific requests at Commons:Picture_requests/Requests/United_States (see New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut). Are suburban areas more convenient, or are inner city areas more convenient? I can give you a specific list if you would like :) WhisperToMe (talk) 06:46, 3 June 2015 (UTC)
@WhisperToMe: That link didn't work.... I am on a very restricted budget so I could take pictures but only in New York City. And I can't really afford to travel a lot, even on the subway and bus, right now. But if it's in the areas where I work and live I'm happy to help. Also, the local WikimediaNYC chapter often does a yearly photo scavenger hunt. You might want to contact @Pharos: and ask him when the next one is if there's a long list. Best, BrillLyle (talk) 14:26, 3 June 2015 (UTC)

Oops! I meant Commons:Commons:Picture_requests/Requests/United_States. Yes, I have some photo requests in Manhattan (and if you do other boroughs some there too!) These are requests specifically from me:

WhisperToMe (talk) 21:31, 3 June 2015 (UTC)

@WhisperToMe: Ah those are mostly on the east side and I'm more typically on the west side. If you aren't in a huge hurry I might be able to work on getting nice pictures eventually, but I don't want to promise you and then not deliver. BrillLyle (talk) 02:15, 4 June 2015 (UTC)
Don't worry... I'm not in a hurry at all :) - I'll see if there's anything I want on the west side, and if I find anything I'll add it to the list. WhisperToMe (talk) 02:22, 4 June 2015 (UTC)
Sounds good! Let me know.... Thanks again! :-) BrillLyle (talk) 02:24, 4 June 2015 (UTC)

I found some ideas:

Emanuel AME for DYK?

...This article has hit a quality point where we may want to consider nominating it for DYK in a few days. I have found several items that would make intriguing hooks for the article, most notably the Grover Cleveland donation in 1886. That said, my only concern is that it may be too unstable (given current events) to be nominated yet. This would not be a self-nomination for either of us as User:ParkerHiggins created the article. Any thoughts? Raymie (tc) 07:48, 18 June 2015 (UTC)

RE Marva Collins

OK. Do her justice. Quis separabit? 21:16, 29 June 2015 (UTC)

@Rms125a@hotmail.com: Thx much.... Appreciate your kindness. If you see copyediting that needs to be done, please feel free. The article is a bit of a quotefarm at this point, which I know is non-ideal. I have at least 12 citations for her and haven't really dug around that much, so I'm hopeful the article can be much improved. Thanks again! - BrillLyle (talk) 21:43, 29 June 2015 (UTC)

15:13, 6 July 2015 (UTC)

Hi, sorry we had to duck out before the end of the meeting tonight. I wanted to let you know that I added links to the event pages for the editathons we've hosted at Pratt SILS over the past year, as well as a link to the blog post we mentioned in the discussion on the etherpad for tonight's meeting. I'd be happy to help make these events more visible to the Wikipedia community in the future. Anarchyshake (talk) 02:15, 9 July 2015 (UTC)

@Anarchyshake: - Hey there, thanks so much for the note. It was so nice to meet you two! This is great! I will add the info to the WikiWednesday event page. Please definitely reach out if there's anything I can do to be of assistance! -- BrillLyle (talk) 14:17, 9 July 2015 (UTC)
Here are some links (some of which I'm sure you're familiar with) to some of the Wiki resources that might be helpful with the work you are doing with Pratt SILS going forward:

This was the talk I was going on about. Both the slides and the video are available as links on this blog post: http://16thstreet.tumblr.com/post/13168380159/v-chapman-smith-speaks-at-the-centers-inaugural - kosboot (talk) 03:29, 9 July 2015 (UTC)

@Kosboot: Ooh, this is great! Thanks so much. I will watch the video and look at the presentation....
Here's the Category:GLAM external link templates that collocates the external link templates, most of which were built at Wikipedia editathons, like the Art + Feminism @ MoMA, Women Of Jazz, etc. BrillLyle (talk) 14:42, 9 July 2015 (UTC)

Ingrid Sischy

I changed the edit as she was based in the US, and thus mm/dd/yyyy format is OK. Yours, Quis separabit? 04:08, 25 July 2015 (UTC)

I never use the mm/dd/yyyy format -- it's slower because the default is dd mm yyyy. I also don't get why this is something you would do when it's obvious I'm trying to add full citations and clean up this page. I think we've talked about this before. Are you planning on spending a few hours adding content and cites to this page? If you are I will back off but this woman's work meant a lot to me so I would really like to try and work on her entry. With the date formats that are fastest for me. BrillLyle (talk) 04:11, 25 July 2015 (UTC)
@Rms125a@hotmail.com: Apparently you feel free to just go in and delete content and not play nice. Do you even have a connection to this subject? I'm really upset. I had hoped to work on this entry but you are deleting things as I am in process. It's just not cool. BrillLyle (talk) 04:14, 25 July 2015 (UTC)
@Rms125a@hotmail.com: How bout you let me know when you're done so maybe another editor can work on the page?!? BrillLyle (talk) 04:18, 25 July 2015 (UTC)
Dear @BrillLyle: I made those edits before communicating with you after I saw that somehow Sischy's birthday had changed from March 2, 1952 to March 3, 1942 -- that threw up a red flag. Secondly, you haven't heard of WP:BOLD or WP:BRD?? Thirdly, I am done. Happy editing but please try to keep the facts straight. Yours, Quis separabit? 04:23, 25 July 2015 (UTC)
@Rms125a@hotmail.com: That edit was a typo, pure and simple. I was trying to fix it as you were deleting placeholder text and changing edits. I don't get deleting content especially as this was obviously me trying to start editing the page and making it better. Also, don't need a patronizing list of Wikipedia rules and a mandate from another editor to get the facts straight. I mean really, how is this civil behavior what you've done? May be of interest

My main computer is down (thanks to upgrading to Windows 10) so I've not had much chance to look online. Experimental filmmakers are an interest so I was looking at the WP page for Mary Ellen Bute. Immediately I found two WP lacunae: Cecile Starr (who I knew a little, who was a critic, author as well as distributor for lesser known experimental films - NYPL is going to have a celebration in honor of her on Oct. 1) and the Women's Independent Film Exchange. One week left in IEG open call: see comments on your proposal talk page

Hello BrillLyle! I just left a notification on your talk page on Meta and thought I'd ping you here, too, to make sure you see it. You have done a lot of work on your proposal and are welcome to submit it for this round, but I've moved it back to "draft" because there has been no activity in the current round. There are additional comments on Meta. Best regards, --Mjohnson (WMF) (talk) 19:26, 22 September 2015 (UTC)
