Proposal regarding Twinkle

I have started a proposal that regards a change to Twinkle and the templates it uses.Jasper Deng (talk) 19:16, 28 May 2011 (UTC)

Twinkle

I saw you were going to make some new changes. But now it ... uh ... doesn't work at all, at least with the Vector skin. The dropdown tab is gone. (sorry, didn't want to futz with the official bug tracker for such a short comment). –Drilnoth (T • C • L) 22:47, 29 May 2011 (UTC)

It work for me™. Anyway, it must be enabled from gadgets now, no more manual installation. AzaToth 23:25, 29 May 2011 (UTC)
Well, now it is working for me. Hmm... guess it must have been a caching issue or somesuch. Anyways, thanks! The additions look nice so far. –Drilnoth (T • C • L) 23:48, 29 May 2011 (UTC)

Github

I suppose I should probably get access to this? SchuminWeb (Talk) 22:55, 29 May 2011 (UTC)

Yea, I only need your github name AzaToth 23:10, 29 May 2011 (UTC)
I'm "SchuminWeb" on there. SchuminWeb (Talk) 12:20, 30 May 2011 (UTC)
Well, forgot to say, but you've been added :) AzaToth 16:35, 30 May 2011 (UTC)
Could add me as well (https://github.com/Amalthea)? Now that the brunt of the work is done I may want to pitch in again. :\ Amalthea 10:26, 30 May 2011 (UTC)

TW serious bugs

Sorry for putting them here but these ones are very big.

  1. The tag section dosen't work at all. I select tags and it says "You must at least select 1 tag";
  2. The text in the boxes are way too small now;
  3. Logging CSD and PROD are not working;
  4. When you have to put more info, you have to select somthing else and then the one you want to make it work;
  5. For warning users, all the templates are gone.

Sorry for here but these were too big. ~~EBE123~~ talkContribs 22:57, 29 May 2011 (UTC)

TW CSD log

Please see Wikipedia_talk:Twinkle#CSD_logging. Sorry, I can't log in to the 'Github' thing to add it there.

Please let me know if that gets sorted out, because I will then tell all the people who were using the previous modded TW (from Tim Song) to log - 'coz they need to change it in the prefs.

Cheers,  Chzz  ►  23:59, 29 May 2011 (UTC)

Also - unrelated - I thought'd I'd let you know about this: Wikipedia:ANI#Twinkle Twinkle Little Script... How I wonder where you went?.  Chzz  ►  01:16, 30 May 2011 (UTC)
And Wikipedia:Help desk#Twinkle no longer working. (Sorry! Please don't 'shoot the messenger'!)  Chzz  ►  01:20, 30 May 2011 (UTC)
Adding to that problem (Im the author) I am using Chrome. It was working fine then just suddenly disappeared so maybe Chrome has something to do with it. Darkwarriorblake (talk) 01:41, 30 May 2011 (UTC)

More TW woes :(

OK, two things:

  1. How do I get the TW menu back in the "move" dropdown on Vector? I don't like having two dropdown menus, just one.
  2. I tried to fix a bad link on the secure server here but it's not working. On the secure server, it goes to https://secure.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Twinkle/Preferences instead of https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Wikipedia:Twinkle/Preferences.

Sorry for yet another Twinkle post! /ƒETCHCOMMS/ 03:05, 30 May 2011 (UTC)

  1. 2 should be fixed now. (WP:BYPASS, of course.) #1 should not have changed - if you leave the TwinkleConfig settings related to portlets in your skin.js, and load Twinkle from User:AzaToth/twinkle.js, the links ought to go where you want them to. — This, that, and the other (talk) 10:30, 30 May 2011 (UTC)
Many thanks, it all works how I'm used to now :) /ƒETCHCOMMS/ 17:30, 30 May 2011 (UTC)

TW problem

Hello. I ran across an issue with Twinkle. When I was adding maintenance tags to an article (I selected about 5), I got an error telling me to select at least one tag, and I said, "WTF!?! I just selected five tags." Could you please help me resolve this issue? Thanks! Crazymonkey1123 (Jacob) T or M/Sign mine 03:28, 30 May 2011 (UTC)

Not sure why you were adding that many tags to an article ... /ƒETCHCOMMS/ 03:58, 30 May 2011 (UTC)

TW Preferences

WP:TWPREFS changes aren't being saved, and the orange line that comes up after I hit saves goes so quickly I can't read what it says. CTJF83 12:22, 30 May 2011 (UTC)

Looks like it works occasionally. CTJF83 12:26, 30 May 2011 (UTC)

Twinkle, Twinkle, little barnstar

  Twinkle Barnstar
The new Twinkle project has clearly been a mammoth task, and this is my recognition of everyone involved (and if I missed anyone, please let me know). The new look and feel, the new features, the prefs GUI, are all great, and rewriting it to use the API sets us up for HTML 5 (if not infinity) and beyond. And considering the wide impact, the implementation went remarkably smoothly - main teething issues solved quickly, and it finally inspired me to upgrade to Firefox 4   -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 18:03, 30 May 2011 (UTC)
Well, it was my fault an rewrite was needed, so I don't know if I deserve and barnstar. Also most work have been done by the others, I've not done almost as much they've done. AzaToth 18:38, 30 May 2011 (UTC)
Twinkle has been a great little tool from the start (even if it was a bit screen-scrapy), and has saved me many hours of tedious manual work over the past few years - so if you think you are unworthy of praise for the new version, then please consider it an overall "thank you" :-) -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 19:35, 30 May 2011 (UTC)

CSD Log

Is there a way to customize what is recorded in User:Ctjf83/CSD log? CTJF83 22:20, 1 June 2011 (UTC)

Joel Benjamin (librarian)

Will you please userfy Joel Benjamin (librarian) for me? I did not see a prod and I'd like to work on establishing notability. Thanks--TM 21:02, 2 June 2011 (UTC)

It's been done. AzaToth 21:58, 2 June 2011 (UTC)

WP:UAA

I keep getting "edit conflict" issues when attempting to report a user to UAA, and no edits to the page recently, it's happened on 5 different users over the past few days. CTJF83 23:01, 3 June 2011 (UTC)

Deletion of Prods

Hi, the accepted practice is to leave Prods in place for a full 7 days e.g. a page Prodded at 23:00 on 26 May should not be deleted until 23:00 today. This is implied, but perhaps could be clearer, at Wikipedia:Proposed deletion#Deleting. It seems that you have deleted a bunch of Prods before the full seven days have elapsed. Please correct me if I have this wrong. HTH. TerriersFan (talk) 17:10, 2 June 2011 (UTC)

I assumed it was ok as it was so near in time, and it was merely to debug Twinkle this time. AzaToth 18:08, 2 June 2011 (UTC)
Thanks, I can see what happened. The problem is that Prods are not suited to automated tools. Even when a Prod has expired it needs to be assessed individually; there may be an objection on the talk page, for example, which means that the Prod has to be declined, a merge or redirect may be a better solution or the article may have enough of a claim to notability that it should go to AFD or be declined outright. TerriersFan (talk) 19:11, 2 June 2011 (UTC)
I can understand that. While I don't know how time consuming your work at Prod is, if you wan't twinkledeprod to be removed, it can be done. It's an rather old script made originally when prod was new and the workload was too high. As it's been dysfunctional for a long time I understand that no one has been using it, thus perhaps it's not wanted at all. one alternative can be to have it only delete prods that haven't had any talk page activity after the tagging, as I assume that would be an clear indicator of undisputabillity. AzaToth 17:28, 7 June 2011 (UTC)
Provided that it can also check for AfDs and restored Prods then that could be useful. I prefer manual attention because I find that each day there are pages that should be declined on grounds of potential notability or that could better be redirected or merged. However, some days the workload is too high for manual assessment. For example, on 6 June there must have been a potent solar flare or something because a ridiculous number of prods were placed and, unless a lot are pulled meanwhile, the workload would be too heavy. My inclination is to say that the best must not be the enemy of the good and once, say, a two day backlog has built up for perhaps you ('cos I cant use these tools :-( } to run Twinkle to get the backlog down. BTW it also needs to check for, and delete, redirects that point to the prodded page. TerriersFan (talk) 02:34, 8 June 2011 (UTC)

Joe Wiegand - Deleted Article

The Deletion log indicates the following: 14:53, 2 June 2011 AzaToth (talk | contribs) deleted "Joe Wiegand" ‎ (DDeleted because expired WP:PROD; Reason given: WP:BLP1E, questionably notable even for that one event.. (TW))

This article was deleted in clear violate of wikipedia policy because you can NOT just delete and article when someone has defended it in the Talk Page. See my follow-on discussion. THis must have been an oversight on your part. My contributions after your deletion comments:

  • I added more references,
  • I added more information to justify its existence. He's been called the greatest living impersonator of Theodore Roosevelt.
  • I added commentary on this from The Oregon Historical Center that asked him to come to Portland and portray Theodore Roosevelt for the young children. This guy has done this in all 50 States and has been even featured in Maxwell House commercials. TR was the man behind the "Good to the Last Drop" story.
  • I have had a number of people email me about this and others ask why a person who has done this so well and for so many people and has been even acknowledged by the Theodore Roosevelt Association for making history come alive. I recently added further justification for this articles continued presence and even expanded it.
  • The article is already referenced in articles on Theodore Roosevelt, Maxwell House Coffee, Impersonators, a US Representative, as well as several other articles.

What will it take to have this article restored? This must have been some mistake. Thanks. SIMONATL - Long Time Wikipedia Editor. Please not Wikipedia Policies on article deletion and my comments. Please note my objections to deletion in the Talk Page and the improvements I made to the article with increased references and also to references from other articles as well. Thank. Reply here or on my page - whichever suits you. Thanks for your attention to this request. SimonATL (talk) 17:03, 7 June 2011 (UTC)

You were clearly in violation of Wikipedia's own guidelines which are as follows:

Deleting

Before deletion, administrators should check the article, its history, and deletion log to confirm that:

  • 1. The proposed deletion tag has been in place continuously for at least 7 days
  • 2. No objections have been raised on the talk page.
  • 3. The article is eligible for proposed deletion: the page is not a redirect, never previously proposed for deletion, never undeleted, and never discussed at AfD.

Clear Objections WERE raised on the talk page and the article expanded. And yet this was all ignored. I heard this guy do TR a couple years ago, and as a trustee of the [[Theodore Roosevelt Association] and an amatuer Roosevelt scholar, I can tell you that Wiegand had TR spot on. After I heard about the extent of this guy's popularity and his trips all across the USA portraying TR an his presentation of TR at the White House in 2008, I figured that he was a significant person to rate an article. This was why I started the article in the 1st place. (PS - I'm no Bush fan, either). Please restore this article ASAP. It must have been an accident. Thanks SimonATL (talk) 16:45, 7 June 2011 (UTC)

Disregarding your apparent lack of assumption of good faith, it's true I was 6 hours too early that time; It was due to testing updated code in Twinkle I deleted them. Usually an disputed PROD is tagged as such and then is not deleted, and if it's deleted it's simply to ask for it's undeletion and it will be done. Now, to undelete the article in question, I need to know which article you are referring to. otherwise it's not possible :) AzaToth 17:18, 7 June 2011 (UTC)
I've restored Joe Wiegand for you now. AzaToth 17:30, 7 June 2011 (UTC)

Please comment on this some time. I know you are busy but it sounds interesting. I've never applied for the position because I'm content to contribute as a writer, but it sounds interesting. Editor responsibilities, however seem to demand a lot more time than I may have. Also, as busy as you are, perhaps this explans the Joe Wiegand article deletion. You never had a minute to check the talk page. Thanks. SimonATL (talk) 17:07, 7 June 2011 (UTC)

Wikipedia Ads

I see you have made some ads; and I was wondering if you could make one for WikiProject East Anglia, as I don't have the software to do it. Could it say "Interested in East Anglia articles? Want to improve your local area for the community? Then join WikiProject East Anglia. Click here for details." or something like that, with File:Flag of East Anglia.svg at the side and the background #ffcc99 colour? Thanks in advance. --Rcsprinter (talk) 15:03, 11 June 2011 (UTC)

Twinkle

I would like to install Twinkle on my project Everything Food & Drink any suggestions on the best way to do that ?
Mlpearc powwow 18:28, 20 June 2011 (UTC)

I think I've tracked it down, looks like I need the URL of the raw script then I can use importScriptURI. All I have now is ('http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:AzaToth/twinkle.js'); Could I have the raw script URL ? Or is there a better way ? Mlpearc powwow 12:54, 21 June 2011 (UTC)
