Interesting additions to the article. I'm currently looking to extract more information on his earlier life...unfortunately most of the stuff I was able to find involves *groan* amazon.com reviews. We may have to email his publicist (you can find him on [1]) if we want something concrete. They seem to be pretty serious about getting his name out there, so if we're lucky we might get good info or *gasp* some other images to add to the article.

I do understand your concern. When I checked the article, I checked both the Fair use article and the fair use guidelines of Wikipedia. According to the guidelines:

Brief, attributed quotations of copyrighted text used to illustrate a point, establish context, or attribute a point of view or idea may be used under fair use. Text must be used verbatim: any alterations must be clearly marked as an elipsis ([...]) or insertion ([added text]) or change of emphasis (emphasis added). All copyrighted text must be attributed. In general, extensive quotation of copyrighted news materials (such as newspapers and wire services), movie scripts, or any other copyrighted text is not fair use and is prohibited by Wikipedia policy.

So, on one side brief, attributed quotations of copyrighted text to establish context is fair use. On the other side, extensive quotation of copyrighted text is prohibited. It is a matter of determining whether that quote was extensive or brief. Personally, I believe a paragraph in a 300 pages book isn't exactly extensive. Note that different articles quote text, in example, the full verse of the One Ring, the speech about mercy in the Fellowship of the Ring. It is up to interpretation, of course, and would be nice to hear some voices.

It seems you forgot to add the article into the list of articles with copyright problems. I have added it now.

Tim Tolkien

Well spotted. I did it completely by accident and didn't know I had till you pointed it out today. Whoops indeed. I was in the same class as Tolkien at school for four years so I am a bit gutted at what I did as basically I am very pleased to see his article here and indeed was trying to improve it (with a link to a pic of him as I wanted to see how 27 years had changed him, and he was unrecognizable) when this accidental deletion occurred. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. It MAY be POV to call OES Co-Masonic, but it ISN'T untrue to say UGLE forbids membership - Statement from the Report of Quarterly Communication of UGLE held on 10 March 1999:

"Women and Freemasonry" - "There exist in England and Wales, at least two Grand Lodges solely for women. Except that these bodies admit women, they are, so far as can be ascertained, otherwise regular in their practice. There is also one which admits both men and women to membership. They are not recognised by this Grand Lodge and intervisitation may not take place. There are, however, informal discussions from time to time with the women's Grand Lodges on matters of mutual concern. Brethren are therefore free to explain to non-Masons, if asked, that Freemasonry is not confined to men (even though this Grand Lodge does not itself admit women). Further information about these bodies may be obtained by writing to the Grand Secretary. The Board is also aware that there exist other bodies not directly imitative of pure antient Masonry, but which by implication introduce Freemasonry, such as the Order of the Eastern Star.
