Trivia removal

I would prefer you not revert my reworking of trivia in the One Piece character articles. I won't edit war with you over it, but I would like to discuss it. See Talk:Sanji for my reasoning. --tjstrf 09:49, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

I have the same problem with you in the Monkey D Luffy page, as Tjstrf said, no reason to start an edit war, but you have to at least reply in the discussion page if you want to make a major edit like this. The attacks and abilities page is limited to attack names, not abilities the characters possess. Gear 2 is not an attack, it is a state of being, just like becoming Super Saiyan (again not an attack), or the Kyuubi powers Uzumaki_Naruto, Goku. Look at their pages, these states are posted on the main page because they are NOT ATTACKS they are transformations, you can't consider them attacks. They are a part of the characters design and makeup to include them under attacks means his gomu gomu ability should also be under attacks. Please revert it to the way it was. Tinibash

I'd consider Gears to be an ability, more precisely, an attack form. For an example, Hiten Mitsurugi (I can't believe I spelled that from memory) is a style of attack, but is still considered an ability because it is a skill unique (or nearly unique) to the character. Yeah part of it was for someone to change that ablities page to attack page. Which may happen now (finally). I did it partly to prove a point. Not a problem. That bot that left all the warnings here is simply a program that freaks out when someone blanks an entire page - so it thought you were vandalizing. Thanks for the message on my talk page. I am keeping that in mind... REALLY I just wasn't impressed since I and others have spent the last few weeks bringing ALL the One Piece pages up to Wikipedia standards and you randomly come in while this is going on. I'm not the only one doing these pages but I set up a lot of the information and spend a lot of time watching the series and reading the manga to compare the information and make sure things are correct. I found it encouraged others to bring the pages up to standards which is why I'm doing it. I haven't the reaction of everyone else since most peeps working on those pages are stranges to me. One Piece

I never said there wasn't an original version; I said I'm not basing any of my edits around it. It's the English manga. I know that there are no English sources, but that doesn't mean it doesn't need to get translated. It's article consistancy. Having Luffy's attacks being called "Gum Gum" whatever in one part of the article and then "Gomu Gomu" whatever in another will just confuse the reader. I hope that explained some of it. I need to look up some more stuff on wikipedia on table building. The dub name resfuses to go onto one line. I'm taking a look at it in a couple of hours time and try and see what I can do with it. Though I already know its because of the explaination text is big. Franky Schematics

Thank you for the compliment. This was the best way I could think of preserving Franky's attacks. He's one of my favorite characters and I don't want all that info to be lost. Also, I think some of the other attack lists I think could be handled like that. For characters like Zoro, his attacks could be placed in a page thats mostly about his style of fighting. It wouldn't be something that looks like listcruft because the page's main topic would be about Zoro's fighting style and not the attacks themselves. Just make an article that's not centered around a list of attacks and I doubt there will be any crufty grounds for deletion. This I think could be used effectively for the main characters since they're the ones with most techniques. Of course it may not work for the minor characters since there's not much to go around but there's probably a loophole that could be exploited. However, all of that needs alot of work that I don't think I can do alone so... Anyway, thanks for the complement.CalicoD.Sparrow 07:44, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

One Piece filler

We can't say that *anything* is canon or non-canon. It isn't up to Wikipedia to make judgments like that. The most we can do is say that some particular source (like the author) says the filler isn't canon. But if we do that we still need a quote from the author saying that he doesn't consider filler to be canon. Filler doesn't become non-canon just by existing. Ken Arromdee 20:31, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

Yes but its not real facts, its something else. Argue with me all day. I don't care on this matter. Well, we cannot be sure for things like the Ocean's Dream arc, but Oda did say that the filler for the Loguetown arc would have been in the manga if not for time constraints. So it would be safe to move, say, Daddy the Father, from the filler characters page, to the minor characters page because of what Oda said on the matter. (Justyn 05:29, 10 October 2006 (UTC))

It's true that Oda didn't write the filler. That doesn't mean that the filler is no good for use as evidence about a character. You could say that the filler is no good for use as evidence of Oda's intentions for the character, however. Ken Arromdee 15:41, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

I'm in a better mood today to talk to. So resonsible me is listening. I nearly forgot I had this going on in my discussion page. Picture me meditating on a rock if you must. I'm not trying to be angry with your or have an argument here. I'm just trying to make you understand something.

Filler is just that - a lot of filler made up to bump up existing storylines, sometimes it is just that it isn't sound enough to make a good strong wikipedia statement. Toei does mistakes, which is why we can't use the filler (pay attention here please) Without backing it with evidence from the canon storyline. As I said, there are ways of getting it on a page, but filler standing alone as evidence isn't good enough. Please accept that there are ways to get info on a page, and ways not to. If you can't accept this, don't put filler infomation on a page, its as simple as that.

Take for instance the One Piece timeline... You can put filler on that so long as you write Anime only, same with Devil Fruits. As I said, Chopper + rumble balls... This was written on to the page to, adding that its different in the manga as to the anime. This is fine too.

And as someone stating, the Logue Town stuff was left out things Oda didn't have time to puyt in. This I can confirm can stand, I believe it was something like chapter 100 was meant to be the end of Logue town, Oda says it in a SBS somewhere... So some aspects of the fillers can stand alone (but again you need to reference statments by Oda where he says its okay) which rarely happens in One Piece. On another note, Oda does design the bad guys for characters in movies and things, so even though the movies are filler they are Oda's creatations.

So yeah, long story short, its okay to add fillers, but back them up with canon storyline proof, Oda's words, or the words anime only and avoid putting the word 'Filler' at all cost. Angel Emfrbl 19:24, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

No, no, that misses my point. Which is deciding that some episodes are part of the canon storyline and others are not is a decision which *we are not permitted to make*. And I'm saying there is a difference whether we like it or not. The One Piece pages are not set up as One Piece (anime), One Piece (manga) and so forth which means we're catering for both. There is a clash between anime and manga on our pages therefore, you need to define which came from where. So while I agree we can't make these choices, we have to because otherise we get information problems. But REALLY is it that much fo a biggy to do what I've suggested? Come on, a small little note something is not filler or is from the anime only isn't much and won't effect the quality of the page. Serious Help with the Franky Schematics

I know you like the concept and all but lately I've been having some real trouble with making the page better looking. I can't seem to find the time to fill in the words and look for the pictures to post for the page. Also I think with my present mood and affairs, I need a long wiki-vacation from all this editing. Could you and some other people work on it while I am gone. You made the great Devil Fruit chart so I know you can do it. For safety measures so that it won't get deleted, you can move the entire contents of the article to my userpage and use it as a workshop or something. I think that's possible. I really need the rest to do other things. I may drop in once in awhile to do stuff but nothing too major until I get back in the mood.

Don't mention them... They've been taking apart every wikipedia page lately. Their all baised too, a lot of those doing it (note: I did not say ALL here). They crib about our pages yet when you look at a few of theirs... Not much better. Its hard to create a wikipedia page now thanks to them. Until 3 months ago, they weren't a problem. Writing problems

After reading your user page, I'm guessing that you are not that good at writing in 3rd century Mandarin, too. Does it really matter? Everyone has writing problems; it's your thoughts that matter not your ability to put them in one or another communication form. Before posting, try running whatever you write through Microsoft Word spelling and grammar checker. In fact, most clean-up editors copy an entire Wikipedia article into their Microsoft Word program, run the spelling and grammar checker, and then use the results to clean up the Wikipedia article. Also, by using Microsoft Word spelling and grammar checker, you will see yourself making the same mistakes and thus learn to correct one mistake at a time.-- Jreferee 14:16, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

Fair use

Devil fruits images: can't argue fair use for images being used as mere illustration. AS in the WP:FU official policy states:

8. The material must contribute significantly to the article (e.g. identify the subject of an article, or specifically illustrate relevant points or sections within the text) and must not serve a purely decorative purpose.

Further this is clarified with a counterexample of what fair use is NOT:

An image of a Barry Bonds baseball card, to illustrate the article on Barry Bonds. A sports card image is a legitimate fair use if it is used only to illustrate the article (or an article section) whose topic is the card itself; see the Billy Ripken article.

New Navi Templates

Okay, sorry about not talking about it. I didn't even think about it. Here's my ideas. The Templates look like this: Story Arcs, Related Articles, Factions , Characters. As you can see "general" has been split into five separate templates, each to be placed on the pages featured in the template. Each Navi Template has a link to the other Templates, and as you can see, are smaller and neater but still allow easy movement through the articles. I also wrote this down HERE on the discussion page.

Prod tags

If an editor removes a {{prod}} tag from an article that you have proposed for deletion, it is being contested and the tag should not be restored. The only exception is when the editor is vandalizing the article. If you still think the article should be deleted, take it to WP:AFD instead, as I have done so with Name changes in One Piece --Farix (Talk) 02:47, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

It's not that hard. There are three systems to delete articles. The first is speedy deletion of articles that mean any one of the speedy deletion criteria. Speedy deletion is only reserved for an article doesn't falls into one of the speedy deletion criteria. If it doesn't one of the other two methods must be used.

The next method is the propose an article for deletion with the {{prod}} tag. This should be used on articles were the deletion of the article is unlikely to be contested by another editor. However, if there is already contention about deleting the article or an editor removes the prod tag, then it goes to the last method.

The third method is WP:AfD, which allows the community to discussion the deletion of the article. There are instructions there about how to list an article for AfD. Also, an articles doesn't have to go through the previous two methods before it gets listed on AfD. Hi, regarding your removal of the "Navy or Marine?" section in the Navu (One piece) article, I'm happy to see somebody remove it, but just be careful what you mark as a minor edit. See Help:Minor_edit

I would HIGHLY SUGGEST that you set up a "sandbox" [1] where you can do this preliminary work, and let the users from the One Piece area look at it before it's posted as an actual article. Merging some One Piece characters

Seeing as you're likely one of the few people that would respond, I may as well ask you first. What do you think of merging some of the non-important characters to their crew pages or where ever they belong? One Piece is a pretty long series at this point, and many of the characters that have articles play only a small part in it. I would say that the only characters that need articles are the Straw Hats, Ace, Buggy, Crocodile, CP9 (even though it's a group I may as well include it), Smoker, Shanks, and Blackbeard. A few borderlines for me are Vivi, Enel, and Akoji. They've played rather large roles, but at this point in time, it really doesn't seem like they need that much written about them. Others like Whitebeard, Garp and Mihawk could come back after they play true roles instead of the minor, sort of ominous ones they currently have. You can just reply here. Well I'll agree on Mihawk. Aside from two or three appearances there is little to be said other then his strength and past rivalry with Shanks. Whitebeard too, I'll agree. Vivi, I see no reason why not merge her. BB and Ace, for now leave I'll agree there too. Its clear their going to have a bigger role in the future and may need some expansion spa ce.

Garp and Dragon never should have been given their own pages (Dragon Esp.) since there isn't a lot to write about (Dragon's page is pathetic... Its like Dalton's page was when he had one). I agrued with someone over Dragon, the guy makes three or so appearances, has said half a dozen lines and aside from the Luffy and Garp relationships and his status as rev. leader there is nothing more to write about him. Well right now not many people are around... Why don't you prepose this on the main One Piece page. It gives everyone's chance to talk (I prefer this). After one week if no one replies, be bold and just try it out. We can always fall back onto the orgianl if it simply doesn't work.

Another person you might want to merge is Croc. His page c an be easily shortened, its just most people don't want to. There are several other characters like that... Well, you have to admit one thing Justyn... The civil thing was done. But honestly TTN, I'll admit you were highly pressurising, at times it did feel like bullying... We won't feel the effect of the mass merger until that critical 72 hour response time is over. Okay,so there probably IS a chapter this week,BUT its not on.Though it may be a failure in some part of the "chain" (scanlators,translators) ,cause last week I thought there was no chapter ,then on sunday I go to OP V.2,(you always hope)........and it was there.Well,maybe a litle longer and........ Looking for the source of some of your images

Image:Earthgod.gif, Image:Firegod.jpg, and Image:Watergod.jpg have all been tagged as lacking sources and fair use rationales and are set to be deleted within a day or two. I am quite willing and able to add the fair use rationales myself so they can be kept, but I am not certain where these images originally came from. You realize that you simply undo the edits? All of these pages, considering that you edit them constantly, should be on your watchlist. Get Twinkle or popups if you want to revert vandalism quickly. You can complain all you wish, it still does not change the fact that the original burden fell upon people failing to include a fair use rationale in practically every single image in One Piece related articles (including yourself). As for the vandalism issues, practically all the vandalism was present for in excess in five or six hours, and even days or weeks in many. That indicates a fault of the people who edit these pages on a regular basis. I'm not going to check each article for vandalism before tagging an image, as I assume good faith from the editors who are editing those articles. If I had not added the messages under the images in the article, a bot would have done it in any case. The burden falls upon those who failed to provide a fair use rationale or source information, and their lack of foresight for this situation. I do not read the series nor edit these articles on a regular basis. I've tagged the images as an impartial upholder of Wikipedia's non-free policy. One Piece characters

I'm just running this by you for now, so I'm not going to bother pursuing it if you don't like it. As you know, characters on this site need real world information in order to exist. Oda has given out a few pieces here and there, but it's not really enough to sustain an article. There is also no reception information available to support these. For those reasons and because the information is available over at Wikia, there is no real reason to have articles here. We just need one single list that has the main, main characters, and summarize any others that are important enough. I'm leaning towards a single list unless real world information is found ,or it is just impossible to cover them all on it for some reason. They're definitely going to be merged one way or another (though it may be through the hassle of bringing in projects to help or using AfDs to sort them out). I obviously said something that offended you, and I apoligise for that; still don't know what I did, though. And I will point this out: I live in California, you live in England. There is an eight hour time difference there. I wrote that message at 2:00AM for me, which would be roughly 10:00AM for you. After that, I went to sleep, and then had a dental apointment that I had to go to: I just got home around 11:45AM for me.

I have no idea on how to start a workgroup: if I can start it just by making the page, than I will do that when I finish this message. Managing the few and far between people that work on the One Piece pages without any form of base would, as I said before, be like herding cats.

And I need to reiterate this again: the whole arguement for the mass merger has broken down to little more than "not sourced correctly"; all the things with WP:N and all the other guidelines, not being sourced correctly. That's it. And, the plot synopsis is not needed, but we do not need to get rid of it either: WP:PLOT says that plot synopses are fine to have, and long is the page is not one giant one; (although, an arguement may be made for any information on fictional charaters being nothing but plot synopsis of some sort).

And to point this out: anything or anyone can be summed up in three paragraphs or even less. Does that mean that we need to limit the information because it can be summed up?(Justyn (talk) 20:23, 20 December 2007 (UTC))

Okay, I got bored today and did the Sanji and Nico Robin articles. They're far from complete, Sanji is missing some information from the SBS like his kicking power (measured in baseball bats he can kick through) and some other stuff I can't remember right now. Robin's history probably needs a rewrite as it's very rough at the moment, and could probably be shortened. I'll add the info and do the rewrite as soon as I get more time. I scrounged the SBS archives on AP for information, and threw in as many references as I could. I'll be moving on to Franky, Chopper and Luffy once I get the other four to a point where they're satisfactory. Once the Straw Hats are complete I'll move on to the various organizations; Baroque Works is high on my priority list as is the Shichibukai article. Ark (talk) 03:33, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

On TTN

TTN is beyond insufferable; I've made it no secret that I dislike him; he is what epitimises the modern Deletionist; someone that games the system so that they can delete pages for lulz. If he does go through with what he claims, we will have him dead to rights shattering the concensus. I have yet to say it flat out yet, but I am fine with merging pages that cannot meet the minimum set down by the notability guidelines, I am not fine with the massive merge that TTN is dead set on. Conversely, if one of the characters on one of the lists can have sources that prove notability, I am more than fine with said character having an article.

Just to point out, I tend to lean on the side of "when in doubt, leave it be" for this kind of stuff. TTN has made it obvious that he has no interest in anything but merging the pages: he has pounded this point home without actualy saying it. (Justyn (talk) 19:14, 18 January 2008 (UTC))

It's laughable how bad some of these pages are, and simply ridiculous how many minor subjects have articles. Do you know which volume the first character popularity poll is in? Actually that was completely my fault. Sorry about that. I misread the sentence a bunch of times since I was tired. Also on the Straw Hat Pirates crew strength section it says "Despite only having a few members, the Straw Hats are an extremely powerful crew, regularly defeating opponents considered beyond their abilities" Is there a way to reword the "regular defeating opponents considered beyond their abilities" part? Its ethier Beri or Beli, both would be correct. This if yor doing direct romani-whats-it-called. If your translating it, my understanding would be that it would come out "Berry" or "Very" as a singlaur version. most go with "Berry". Hence: Berries.
