Baghel Singh Sandhu

Baghel Singh Sandhu was the cousin brother of Jai Singh Kanhaiya and was one of the founding Sardars of Kanhiya Misl of Sikhs.

Life

He was born in village Julka, Pakistan and established himself in a village he named as Sangatpura, 7 kilometers near Fatehgarh Churian. Baghel Singh Kanhaiya established his headquarters at village Sangatpura and helped his brother Jai Singh Kanhaiya in many conquests. Both of them expanded territories of Kanhaiya Misl and brought peace to the areas which were regularly looted and destroyed by many invaders. Jai Singh went to Batala to establish his capital , while Baghel Singh remained in Sangatpura as a separate ruler.

Death

After his death, his estates were passed down to his only son Haqiqat Singh Kanhaiya who expanded the territories of his rule to new areas and made Fatehgarh Churian as his royal capital.

Legacy

Family of Kanhaiyas is still present in Fatehgarh Churian. The present Sardars of Kanhaiyas are Karamjit Singh Kanhaiya, Harpal Singh Kanhaiya, Hardev Singh Kanhaiya, Jaspal Singh Kanhaiya and Harjit Singh Kanhaiya.
